Gotta say, it's hard to take you remotely seriously if you say it's "reductive" to say it was because he was feeding Peggy's ego. Peggy has always been a narcissist, and an extreme one at that. To believe this wasn't a case of someone manipulating her ego, you'd either have to have not watched the rest of the show, or been dropped on your head as a baby. I know I’m late to this party but I’m finally getting back to watch this channel. but I want to say Peggy has narcissistic tendencies but isn’t technically one since she has empathy for others and can feel shame and not be totally adverse to it. At least at this point of the series I know she gets more flanderized as the seasons get by and of course the popular fan theory of Peggy getting brain dmg due to the parachute accident making her into one. But it’s unfair to cross her off like most people do at this early in the series.

One thing is the Professor lied to Hank first about the value and use of the arrowhead in a way that was even worse than Hank's wrong guess about it. The Professor told Hank the items were worthless and when Hank attempted to bring up John's statement about the meaning of them, the Prof claimed Native Americans "see meaning in everything" (as if other cultures don't) and their emotional abd spiritual connections were pointless. That's how he sold Hank on the items being worthless but it also showed his true colors there; he doesn't care about Native Americans or archeology. He cares about getting famous off them which is why he was so quick to lwt Peggy be humiliated over the fake necklace instead of calling it a fake when she showed it to him. The Professor is the worst kind of intellectual; someone who believes the impact of culture can only happen through their actions and believes people out of the college system are 'uneducated'. He's not in his profession for the love of it, but the egotistical gain of it. He deserved those shoves back in the hole.

I think the professor is the evolution of the "Twig Boy" guy from the first episode. Had to level up, get an archeology degree, then he came for Hank's lawn and family. It's a secret revenge episode. And he still loses. But he did wreck that lawn, nobody can take that from him.

I think the college campus is a community college, which can be sizeable at times. I attended Tarrant County Community College and some of the campuses were pretty large. Also I had no idea the Professor's VA did so many noteworthy characters as they're all so distinct. Talk about range!

Yeah my community college had 4 compasses. The original name was North Harris Magumery Community College, the locations were Kingwood, Cy center, y the Tom center and North Harris. The name was changed because say you went to North Harris Magumery community College + location was to of a mouthful. It's not crazy that Arlen would have a university. Some pretty small cities have universities. I think sometimes they are even put in smaller cities near big cities since land is cheaper. Ithaca, NY has only about 32K people and it is home to Cornell University. University of California has campuses in Davis (66,000 people) and Merced (99,000). Redlands, CA has it's own private university and only about 74,000 people. I believe Arlen is supposed to be in the Dallas metro area, and doesn't appear to be particularly remote of a town, so I could see it having a university.
