Talbot is an extremely solid goalie. He was incredible with Minnesota and actually bringing in Fleury was a clear downgrade over him. After that he battled with injuries and had a difficult season with the sens but then he was again fantastic with LA and he just continues on that note this season. He definitely earned his place on team Canada's roster!

I play in a salary cap Dynasty league (I've been around for 8 of the 17 years it's been running). G, A, PPP, SHP, Blks, Hits, PIMs & W, GAA, Sv%, Sv, SO. We run a 25 man team using the player's annual salary (which means huge fluctuations over the term of the contract with say Auston Matthews being paid 7.95m last year and making 16.7m this year - the difference between the last year of his previous front loaded contract and the first year of his new front loaded contract). I'm currently 3rd, after missing our playoffs for the first time in the last 5 years, and the 2nd time in my time in the league - which given the roster only changes with trades, entry draft selections or free agency signings (team stays the same otherwise with a 25 man scoring roster, 45 man farm team and 3 years of entry draft picks). Expected studs - Brady Tkachuk, Tom Wilson. Both are huge multi cat beasts year in, year out. Surprises - Dylan Strome (weak peripherals, but LEADING scorer?!?). major boons for low cap hits: Fabian Zetterlund, Paul Cotter (cooling off, but what a first week coming from a league minimum contract I wanted for hits, blocks and PIMs!). Pyotr Kochetkov nearly outperforming Jake Oettinger at 1/3rd of the salary. We're looking for potential candidates to join the league next season - we had to contract due to several long term members being too busy for the level of commitment needed after 12+ years in the league. This is a free league, trying to emulate the GM experience of an NHL GM - testing your ability to build and maintain a roster via the entry draft, trades and free agency while operating under a salary cap which is quite challenging. It gives a whole different perspective to understanding the Oilers struggles to build a team around McDrai, appreciating Tampa's roster turn over and long run of success over the past several years and the dumpster fire that Buffalo has been for the past decade+.

I think scratching Michkov here and there could be a good thing in the long term development of the player. Kinda ease him in to the league. there's no need to rush him. Anyone who's pissed off with it, just don't like Torts to begin with. Then again when you speak your mind and tell it like it is, snowflakes get upset and start to dislike you, because they don't agree with your opinions. “Nobody made a deal about Leo Carlsson last year”? HA! I disagree with that statement. As a ducks fan, every broadcast mentioned it about him if he was playing or if he was out. That fact that you brought it up as a talking point if proof that it was made as a talking point amongst fans
@Gergentine2 ай бұрын
I agree with what your saying but i also know you misunderstand what he's saying. What he means is that the ducks coaches didn't treat it as a "hes playing bad so we need to bench him." When they took him out of the lineup, it was to give him some R&R while being able to study the game with the GM in the booth above the rink. The pressure wasn't on for Carlsson like there is for a guy like Michkov who plays for a coach who is specifically known for sitting players to punish them. It was never a punishment for Carlsson, just part of his development.
@dylanjohnson5052 ай бұрын
@ I appreciate your comment, I’d counter it by saying that I hope what you’re saying (if I understand you correctly) is false. I’d like to think that Torts is doing his best to make Mitchkov understand and develop just as the Cronin and Verbeek were doing for Leo. Perhaps it’s not a punishment and the media is making that the story. Let’s be frank here: Anaheim is a small hockey market with less media coverage, whereas Philly is a medium market. Both Leo and Mitchkov should have similar pressures on them being high draft picks from the same class on teams with low expectations- perhaps Philly has a bit more than Anaheim. My point is: there shouldn’t be discourse about this at all at Mitchkov, just as there shouldn’t have been about Leo. But there is because sports fans generally overreact to every small detail.
@Gergentine2 ай бұрын
@dylanjohnson505 oh i agree with you. I think torts has learned to handle rookies with far more tact since his time in CBJ. But his lack of it early on still sticks to his name in media. Nothing wrong with sitting a rookie in general as long as it's not to the point it completely derails their confidence. Phillies also not a massive market either. They don't get much media attention outside of torts these days. Also you're very right about fans overreacting. That's why I brought this up as you seemed to be misunderstanding/overreacting to the conversation. Ohnyquist in general is pretty based in most of his takes and generally doesn't overreact as bad as most youtubers do, hence why he's one of only two hockey channels i can stand to watch. That being said. This isn't what ohnyquist was talking about.

Yzerman is absolutely under utilizing Tarasenko for the 3rd line duty. 4 Million to play 3rd line? Its not Tarasenko's fault. Yzermans playing him to feed OTHERS and not be fed himself. I am by no means a ville husso fan. No goalie would have a chance on 2 of those goals, he really wasn’t all that bad. Good for kaspers development to have a player like him there I forgot to mention (hence the edit) Alex Lyon was injured for the game against the rangers

Daccord is underrated... I know the Senators missed on him big time... They did again with Filip Gustavsson.
@carterhayes72402 ай бұрын
Nah not even close
@OttawaRocks2 ай бұрын
@@heathclark318 Daccord was taken by Seattle in the expansion draft and the Sens were only allowed to protect one of Gustavsson or Daccord (and they chose to protect Gustavsson). So in retrospect, one way to look this is that it is Gustavsson who they missed on by trading him to Minnesota (for Talbot). The Daccord loss was forced. However, what is interesting if you follow the trade tree / free agent tree that results from the Sens giving up Gustavsson to Minnesota is that they end up with Ullmark. So the next question that follows is how is each goaltender doing (that was involved in that trade/FA tree that precipitated from the initial Gustavsson trade to Minnesota)? To-date, the save percentage of each goaltender is: Talbot 0.926 Gustavsson 0.919 Ullmark 0.915 Daccord 0.912 Korpisalo 0.900
@heathclark3182 ай бұрын
@@OttawaRocks Did you copy paste that? IF not then thank you for taking your time for the deep dive. Didnt think it was forced when it came to Ottawa and Daccord. Thought there were other goalies they could have left unprotected. Could be wrong. Also understand he hadnt shown enough for the Sens to trade for another player in order to protect him. Ulmark has been stellar so far. Big Sens fan myself. Hope they continue playing well as playoff spots are DEFINTELY up for grabs this year!

Flyers fan. It doesn’t matter. Scratching is different with Torts. Michkov and all the fans know he’s the future anyway. He’s back in the lineup tonight.
@vilsfrid15662 ай бұрын
He is trying to make Michkov deserve that spot on the team, like all young players still developing should. U need to create that competition within the team. If u have long stretches not producing and not working on defence that is what has to be done. Michkov slowed down a bit and didn't really produce the last 6 games before being scratched. It is done as wake up call. If the player has a pro attitude he will come back from it better as before. If not and instead throwing temper tantrums then the time is to grow up. Way better aproach than what Richardson has with Bedard. Even though it's fair because he would get shit on if he didn't and he is not a long term NHL coach yet so he is to afraid to take the risk.

Development reasons. Playing rookies for a full 82 game nhl schedule can sometimes not be good since they really aren't that used to playing a stressful nhl season. Plus, you heard him say the ducks did it with carlsson last year. Sitting rookies is good for development
@edenisburning2 ай бұрын
Torts. He's the best coach to get more out of a team than their roster would suggest. He's the worst coach to have when you're trying to develop a flashy superstar. He hates those types of players and will try to beat the flashy skill out of Michkov in an attempt to make him into something he's not ever going to be. The Leo Carlsson situation was different, he knew at the start of the year that he'd be in and out of the lineup as they managed his game load. It was part of his development plan. What Torts is doing runs the risk of shattering a young players confidence or souring their relationship with the team.
