Each year on St. Patrick's Day, certain Baptists will claim that St. Patrick wasn't REALLY a Catholic, but was instead a Baptist. But what do we learn from listening to St. Patrick in his own words? And what do we know about the world of St. Patrick from those who lived during his lifetime? As it turns out, Patrick was way more Catholic than you may realize... and he was quite explicit about this fact!

I am waiting for them to say Gregory the Great was not Catholic.

I heard this Baptist fiction a few years ago. At first I thought it was a joke. This anti-Catholic bigotry is ridiculous, and it's also gravely sinful.

I was so perplexed when listening to Protestant friends claim Saint Patrick was Protestant, showing them how he literally quotes passages from books removed from the Protestant canon, believes in the Eucharist…right there we know he’s not Baptist…

I grew up Southern Baptist and any time there was talk of the Saints, Baptists always try to latch onto the ones they like (Paul -good, Peter - bad). Baptists are often quite embarrassed when they hear quotes from Augustine or Aquinas, without knowing the source, then completely agreeing with the quote, only to find out they come from Catholic Church Fathers. As with most Protestants, Baptists have no problems with picking and choosing what they like from the buffet line of Christianity. They are the original cafeteria Christians.

The Baptist Church was started in 1609. St. Patrick lived in the 400s. Can't wait to hear this.

I'm in the uk. Ive seen a protestant video by a local preacher saying celtic Christians in the uk and Ireland were keepers of the original protestant-type faith and then were overtaken by the catholic church when the British Isles were formally christianised. Not a jot of evidence provided or recognition that both the celtic church and the church in rome were in full communion

St Patrick was most definitely not a Baptist. In fact no one was a Baptist until after the Protestant heresy and revolt.

Well if he was Baptist he did a terrible job of converting us 🤣🤣 not sure if they have thought this through, so St Patrick was a Baptist but he managed to turn us into one of the greatest Catholic countries in the world 😂

As a Catholic with Irish ancestry; I never knew the Baptists were up to this type of shenanigans. Shame on them for trying to steal a Catholic Saint and tarnish his name as an apostate with their lot.

I love my baptist friends, but the anti-Catholic historical Baptist claims are suuuuuper cringe.

St Patrick trained and practiced priesthood in France, raised to the position of Bishop before coming to catechise Ireland after being a slave there in his youth. Unless French Catholicism was under a different hierarchical structure than Rome, he was Roman Catholic and brought Roman Catholicism to Ireland.

Considering St. Patrik lived in the 5th century and Baptists didn't appear until the 17th century, is just unbelievable they dare to say St. Patrik was Baptist and not Catholic. May God grants them discernment.

He talks about priests, deacons, ordaining clerics, nuns, his celibacy and being a Bishop in his Confessio. How could he be baptist? They have none of those things

I heard some folks from an Baptist nonprofit raising money for a mission trip about a year a go right before St. Patrick's Day. It seemed natural to me that even though they weren't Catholic, they discussed St. Patrick in their talk, both because of the proximity to the holiday and the relationship to missionary work. Then they're suddenly explaining that St. Patrick was a Baptist long because the Baptist Church has always existed and also the Catholic Church hadn't been invented yet (so much for Constantine inventing it).

We cannot be serious 😂? Saint Patrick is probably the only early Christian everyone believes is Catholic.

I’ve never heard this argument, I’m glad there’s enough within his own writings to refute this easily.
