I'll propose an alternate theory: Broner and his team know he doesn't have what it takes to be on the top, so he chooses this persona because people love to pay to see a bad guy gets his ass kicked. After all, millions paid to see if Mayweather would lose, not because his fights were entertaining (on the contrary).
