As a journalist myself I wonder what people expected. Reporters should not write what you want, but what they see. This doesn't mean they don't have bias, we all have. The Neelemans should have asked themselves if showing how their real life is would do something good for their public image, this is not the journalist job. Also, thinking the 'mormon experience' is normal for the whole world shows how oblivious they are.

You can't chase visibility and then complain if some people share opinions about you that you do not like. I think public figures do have a right to some privacy (for instance, I do NOT like paparazzi), but statements they choose to make directly to reporters is fair game.

A basic level of integrity especially since the article was egregiously trying to paint the husband as a villain. Word choice can change entire stories even if the details are true in two different versions.

I can’t help but to think that her multiple pregnancies and constant work are harmful to her health? Like literal physical health. I'm afraid to imagine what could happen to her or already is, purely worrying for another person. There are things that money can't fix. And her husband 100% doesn't give a damn, because he will find another ballerina without any problems

You're so good at marrying compassion and empathy with being direct and truthful. We can have compassion for Hannah Neeleman without painting her differently than she is. She's grown up in a cult. Cult life is all she's ever known. Accepting Hannah's narrative that her life is 100% fine when everyone can clearly see and hear with their own senses what she's been through (the egg apron, etc), is WILD. It's giving "Biden is fine and has no problems, nothing to see here". Like, we have EYES and EARS though. D...did you forget we had eyes and ears...?

What I was most shocked about was the fact that she gets pregnant IMMEDIATELY after giving birth. I am surprised no one else is mentioning this very problematic issue. This screams abuse and red flag to me. It makes my heart sad to hear that she has kids less than a year after she's already had one...am I missing something?

QT Cinderella said it sounded like they subscribed to the official Mormon view on intercourse, that it’s only for the explicit intent of procreation. And apparently there’s a loophole for intimacy during pregnancy. So the implication is he just really wants to f his wife, but in a godly way lol

I just want to ask the Neelemans what did you think was going to happen if you openly admitted to Daniel not being super supportive of Hannah's career goals and trying to pressure her into starting their family as soon as possible? To me, the journalist was just sharing what she saw and letting readers draw their own conclusions, which is kind of what you're supposed to do when you're a reporter. Also, no decent person has a problem with women being homemakers if it's what they really want. They do, however, take issue with patriarchal family structures and blatant misogyny in a relationship

I'm male so it isn't like I know how painful birth is but I can't imagine saying no to an epidural. What, does she not get her mom card stamped if she has one? Is this some weird man-thing to impress your dude-friends that your wife is tough or something? Seriously, my wife had so many complications from pregnancy we had my wires snipped before she gave birth.

No idea. I know some women plan to go drug-free because they think that's how it should be (it's very "I'm doing it the natural way" which is not great). I ended up doing it drug free because I literally forgot that it was a choice in the moment. I tried one puff of something (it's been a while) because my husband offered it but it made me super dizzy. I definitely didn't plan it that way though and my husband was all for me having pain relief. Honestly, the people not having the baby should not be giving their opinions with regards to pain relief.

She wrote a blog online about her story. She didn't drop out of Julliard, there are videos of her dancing at school while pregnant, and apparently Daniel dropped out of the sports team he was in to move to New York until she finished school. Anyway apart from that fact I find your take interesting and definitely something to think about. To me Hannah comes across as a business woman, well articulated and in an equal partnership in her videos. But I'll think about the nuances you provided here.

This. And she started competing in beauty pageants to help her parents pay for her college. I think saying the article had an angle is admitting the bias. I urge people to read Hannah’s bio on her website. Saying she couldn’t get an epidural if Daniel was there is also speculation. If she lowered her voice at all, maybe it’s because Daniel was on the phone? Just to add the nuance here.
