Ultimately, The Matrix and The Matrix Revolutions ended up with the same theme and ending: Symbiosis. 25 years ago in May 1999, The Matrix was the sacrificial lamb that was probably going to get trounced by Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Of course, no one knew that The Matrix was going to be so good, and Star Wars was going to be so bad. The first matrix movie had a beginning, middle, and end. It followed the very familiar path of the hero archetype so perfectly explained by Joseph Campbell and his book, _The Hero with One Thousand Faces._ Problem was, it was a massive hit that begged for sequel, but the story was complete. Neo became the Messiah that could do in the matrix "as he saw fit", and flew out of the phone booth after giving the machines a choice as to how they would live with humans. The Matrix Reloaded gave a back story that I, personally, felt was as cool a twist as the matrix itself (the sixth revolution of the anomaly called the one). But, admittedly, they needed a solution for the fact that Neo was omnipotent. One solution was giving him an opposite in Smith. The other solution was upgrading the programs with ghosts, vampires, and stronger agents (upgrades!). A person could not be blamed for rejecting this. However, if you accepted the upgrades, The Matrix Trilogy is pretty stupendous. And it really stands on its middle chapter, Reloaded. With no more lore to tell, The Matrix Revolutions is a little bloated and too long. It was hard to care about characters outside of Morpheus, Neo, and Trinity, and that's exactly what the movie needed; More characters to care about in what is essentially a war picture. So many of the humans died, but they were faceless, like the Jedi that died in the arena in Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones. The fourth matrix movie is another matter entirely. And I didn't mean to go on this long so I will stop.

2003 was a groundbreaking year for movies. One of the best sci fi trilogies of all time ending and one of the best fantasy trilogies of all time ending in the same year. So lucky to have experienced both films.

So in my opinion an attempt to understand what exactly happened at the end Ne was jacked into the source. Throughout the movie they made note that when programs go Rogue it's because when they're done they don't return to the source. Smith had gone Rogue massively and the only way anybody could stop him is if he was to return to the source therefore while Neo was jacked into the source, he allowing himself to be copied over by Smith made it so that Smith ultimately returned to the source and the source was able to eradicate the rest of him rest of him from their Network

Robert Heinlein wrote Starship Troopers in 1959 which included the Marauder suits, perhaps one of the earliest references to a mechanical exoskeleton designed for combat. While the budget kept them from being included in the first film, they make an appearance in the 3rd film regardless of that film's quality an reception. James Cameron created the mech-forklift for Aliens but it wasn't designed for combat, Ripley's just a bad ass. Having had years to reflect on this film has left me with a single 'reality' concerning the story - Neo was an AI placed into a human child to become and fulfill the function of the one. Where as before his prior selves worked with the Source to stabilize the system, this time finding love he becomes the most human and as it plays out I'm reminded of the Messiah story.

12:39 - ALIENS' Forklift mechsuits definately influenced quite a few movies after. • Love Death x Robots S1E4 - Suits • Avatar (2009, James Cameron) • Atlas (2024, Jennifer Lopez, Netflix)

@RaymondXperia and The Matrix itself was influenced by the Japanese anime, Ghost in the Shell.

If any of you “kids” play video games get your hands on a copy of enter the matrix. It was on Xbox GameCube and ps2. It’s an in between of all three movies. It goes over how the second one starts, it weaves between the second movie and shows how and why something happened in the movie itself and shows how Niobe didn’t have her ship running in the beginning of the third movie. And it has over an hour of live footage that’s was shot with the two movies. I’m pretty sure if you don’t want to play the whole game you can find a compilation of all “movie” footage from the game itself. It helps to explain a lot of what you don’t see but may be wondering about.

Do NOT watch the 4th movie. It completely ruins what is otherwise a great series. Stop after the third film if you don't want to be disappointed.
