I feel like the franchise has an opportunity to make a compelling antagonist out of the mimic. In the first few games, we learn that the animatronics are possessed by ghosts which gave us a reason to care about them as characters. It's interesting that the animatronics are now AI but have shown to have a sense of humanity that the older models don't. Ex. Glamrock Freddy tells us that he was a blank endoskeleton, like we see in the nursery, before he was Freddy. He could've been a Monty or a Roxy or a Chica but, by chance, he was a Freddy. He isn't a singularity, he's a clone. He's just a Freddy in an ocean of Freddy's. Why? He could've been anything but he's just Freddy. If he had been left to learn and develop on his own, who would he have been? Endoskeletons in the nursery are trained as replacements, copies, in a secluded area where the AI can only learn what the staff want them to learn. They have no choice but to be forced into a rigid identity by Fazbear Co. Ex. Roxanne Wolf is shown to be insecure about herself, which is an odd trait for an AI to have. Where did she learn this trait from? I think it was Cassie. It's shown that they knew one another pre-Ruin and that they spent a lot of time with each other. My headcanon is that Cassie is insecure and views herself as worthless, like Roxy. It's not much but we know that no one came to her birthday party at the Pizzaplex and I imagine that would shake a kid's self esteem HARD. Mimic was built as a host for Glitchtrap but it didn't go to plan and so it's hidden away in the basement, deep beneath the Pizzaplex. It's a blank slate. It won't be trained as a Freddy or a Roxy etc. It has nothing to learn from so it needs to escape. Humans learn from those around them, like the animatronics, but have different experiences that make them singular which isn't a luxury most of the AI-based animatronics have. I think Freddy and Roxy have, from the time spent with Gregory and Cassie, developed personality traits that stray from the Fazbear Co. programming, making them distinct but not unique. It's too late for them to be singular because, though they are deviated, they are Freddy and Roxy still. Mimic doesn't have this problem. Mimic is a blank slate and if given the chance to discover it's identity on it's own terms, by experiencing life as a human would, could find it's own unique identity. I think that's what it wants most of all but it has to escape to do it. Mimic is desperate for a sense of self, it's in it's programming, and I think we see hints of that. In conclusion, I think it would be interesting to explore humanity through AI and the animatronics, and in particular the mimic, which isn't a new concept but could be a direction for the franchise going forward as it seems a bit aimless at the minute.

Some thoughts I've just had: Gregory in Security Breach IS the young adolescent mimic. He escapes the post-it room, gets inside Freddy (causing him to glitch out) and then Vanny is trying to get him back because she knows what he is. Once the game is done and you (as Mimic/Gregory) go into the basement, he gets trapped and then as time goes on cobbles together parts from the basement to make a bigger body. This leads to Ruin where the mimic still uses Gregorys voice to lure Cassie to free him from the confines of the basement. Gregory was never a real kid, he was the creepy bot, the young adolescent mimic

It's very interesting that the "monster" learns the lullaby from the mother technically right? Which is consistent with John saying Vanny was teaching the mimic. I think the story is explaining how Gregory initially found the mimic and they trapped it after letting it out. It tries again with Cassie but at that point it's mastered it's craft, it doesn't spend Ruin learning how to trick Cassie, it does it from the beginning. I mean if i has Gregory's voice it had to hear him in the first place, one way or another.

We could also interpret it as maybe the “mother” is Gregory? And the son could still be Cassie. It’s a bit of a stretch, I’ll admit. The only reason I bring it up is because the only person we see being lured in that way by the mimic is Cassie (in the games anyway). And Cassie is being lured by Gregory’s voice. Plus the two clearly have a pre-existing friendship, and ruin shows that Gregory has comforted Cassie in the past. Like I said though, it’s a stretch.

It very clearly does NOT fit Cassy. From the beginning of the game (or to be more precise even before that) Cassy is lured in by the Mimic's Gregory voice. In the story however it learns the voice. This tells me the Mimic tried this tactic with Gregory but ultimately failed and retries with Cassy instead. Now we just need to fit in the Blob because for some reason that is also a real thing

35:24 I don't know about anything else, but this made me have a thought. What if Gregory was the other person? The first time we see him he is running and hiding from vanny. You mentioned multiple places that look like someone was living there. And in the notes the parts "no hide" and "let get snack" sound like two kids secretly hanging out but one of them is hiding from something or someone, and the other is trying to help them or comfort them. What if gregory and the mimic were friends when they were younger and still learning to read and write? Doesn't make complete sense, but it's an interesting thought and i figured i might as well voice it.

I think an idea is, that maybe Gregory was freed from the virus when Freddy glitched on stage. Like Gregory WAS evil, but the Gregory we play as doesn’t seem to fit with those older motivations. So I believe that by the time he meets Freddy he’s been cured & that’s why all the other animatronics are after him because he’s no longer infected.

The concept of Robo Grego is something that can benefit John's theory if you think that Gregory is being controlled to hinder Vanessa from outside help her therapists so he got rid of them but something happened at the beginning of Security breach that frees him from glitch trap and he then goes and frees Vanessa in retaliation.

I really think that the whole point of the notes about the “creepy bot” and “it’s attracted to sound” was originally referring to Springtrap/Burntrap when security breach first came out. I feel like everyone forgets that fnaf 3 was the game where that the main mechanic was to lure springtrap away with sound. I feel like the most likely scenario was that Steelwool genuinely didn’t expect how the community would react so confused and negative to the return of springtrap especially after the fact that he was supposedly dead... twice before. I think glitchtrap was definitely meant to be the main antagonist with the help of Vanessa and that some how springtrap got his mind back or never died. It’s obviously from the reactions of the fans, that they made ruin to redirect people’s attention from burntrap and glitchtrap. I also feel like the postet room was meant to be either Gregory as a robot learning or some other robot either AI or Soul infused AI. But with Fahnafs theory, it doesn’t explain the table of the Afton family in the same room! The mimic wouldn’t know anything about Afton’s family unless the room is dedicated to a robot child of Afton like CC or Mike or even Elizabeth. And less we forget about Freddy’s personality completely change just because he saw Gregory which must have meant something like Mike’s soul recognized him or something of that nature. Plus the stickies with the different people talking to each other, what if Gregory is a robot and that the only reason he and Cassie are friends is because Cassie visited the pizzaplex with her dad and liked adventuring and one day found Gregory and she decided to help him learn and experience party’s and such. Maybe Cassie’s dad reprogrammed Freddy and Roxie to look after his daughter and her best friend?

I think the end of ruin pretty explicitly shows us that we have NO idea what Gregory was doing between the events of SB and Ruin. The therapy sessions are a device to tell us that we are playing a character that isn’t what he seems. The events of SB are only tangentially true. They are told as if Gregory is innocent, when he’s not. It’s a bait and switch.

To be fair, if what John says is correct about the Mimic being Burntrap after Glitchtrap is completely killed by Gregory and Cassie’s Dad then the models not completely matching would still be possible as any damage the reckless Mimic received it would likely just replace with whatever junk is around. The elevator at the end of ruin shows that it doesn’t care about damaging itself (the hand coming off in the door that it rips off itself).

I alway thought the mimic and glitch trap being 2 separate entities fighting over control of a body which is what became burn trap then afton gets killed or becomes mxes which is a possibility due to the similarities and the mimic regains control and becomes its own thing

What you and mat are forgetting is the fact that the burn trap ending is not canon. The princess quest one is canon. That form of afton doesn’t exist. Therefore it doesn’t matter if they are similar or not. John was talking about how it was their intention to turn mimic into burntrap BUT that the plan was STOPPED.

I do think the Candy Cadet Story is Cassie and her dad. The dad and cassie visit the pizza plex often, as shown with cassie knowing roxie well and her dad working there (which parallels the Mom and son live in the dark woods) The monster (mimic) lives in the pizza plex. The dad helps captures the mimic and locks him down there with greggory and vanessa parallels with the part with "the mom finds out about the monster and locks it in the basement". It says the mom, meaning the son doesn't know about the monster or didn't help contain him. Meaning Cassie's dad didn't have to let Cassie know. Cassie, since she was at the pizzaplex often, met Gregory there who was also there often. Gregory could be the lullybye itself that the mimic learned from watching as both were at the pizzaplex often. Then she hears gregory's voice and unlocks the door.

I dont think this quite works because the story involves 2 characters and a lullaby from the mother. If Cassies dad is the mother in the story what's the lullaby? How can Gregory's voice be the lullaby without being the mother stand in?

Another part that I thought of to add onto this was "the next day the mom goes out to find food" or whatever the sentence was and it sort of lines up with Cassie's dad leaving the note of "I'll be gone for a while here's money for food" which is a bit different but you know 🤷‍♀️ a thought at least 😂

16:13 - 20:52 - The Freddy head was a pinata and "smash with a bat." - The snowman and coat was "bundle up when cold." (which is ironic given that Matt had to wear a coat to bundle up lol) - The two babies were "tuck a baby in bed." For the "Burntrap ending not being canon" thing: - Here's the thing, before we even put on the V.A.N.N.I. mask on, we can catch a glimpse of the Blob still roaming around the Pizzaplex, which to me indicates that the Burntrap animatronic itself may exist somehow somewhere. Plus honestly I'm in the camp of "all the endings are canon, it's just they're the result of a different night through the week, with 5 endings that are not canon and a secret very complex to complete one being the canon endings, 5 nights with a bonus 6th night that explains (or at least tries to explain) everything that was going on. It's just that the CONTEXT for each ending isn't what we thought they were, at least to me, they're broad strokes of what was going on for each night Gregory was spending at the Pizzaplex. Because a bit point of contention I'm still unsure of is "was anything we found in the game really what we assume them to be?" Because there is an inherent nature of "it's possible NONE of this could be real and we're being lied to via neural implant." For the possible "Mimic endo = Burntrap endo": - I can kinda see it, it's not a 1:1 but the general idea is KINDA there. But then I feel like the mashed together mascot suit the Mimic CAN wear needs to be kept in context of what the Mimic was trying to do. Although it could be like "he was being molded into Afton before it was being stopped then it went on to try to replicate Gregory." Ruin's Candy Cadet story: - Pretty sure it's "Greg = mom; Cassie = child; Mimic = monster."

Cause my thing is that not only do we still see the Blob before putting the mask on, but they DID intend to have the Burntrap ending be canon so I feel like that should still be kept in mind somewhat. Plus there's the whole aspect of "the mask changes design when as a part of Vanny's costume vs when Cassie (and her dad in Help Wanted 2) gets it."

Mat, I hope you see this: Gregory and Cassie have a history as seen in the Roxy raceway areas of Ruin. Gregory consoling her. and befriending her. We know Cassie struggled with friends and the like as seen in the same area. Gregory is the Lullaby, for the whole story and not one of the characters or just at the end. If Cassie is the little boy, then who is to say Her father isnt the mother? we know he was involved with the mimic and the basement. possibly even being the one to build the MXES security for it. So he is the mother protecting the boy. So that would mean him "singing the lullaby" is bringing Gregory into her life. whether he is a robot or not. The former actually better supports this as Bonnie Bro could make Gregory as a stand in since Cassie didnt have friends. That also explains why Gregory might know about the mimic for his fantasy of the Afton ending. as Odds are Bonnie bro while making and teaching him in the post it room may have spoken about it in some capacity. In summary: Bonnie Bro (Cassie's dad) is the Mother, Cassie is the son, and Bonnie bro made/brought in Gregory for Cassie (he sang the lullaby) Cassie being the boy in the story, and the monster (mimic) copies the lullaby (Gregory's voice) to lure Cassie in.

At the end of the 1st Tales of the pizzaplex book there is a short story about the pizzeria under the Mega pizza plex. In this story it tells us of a man named Gill (a fazbear technician) who found a robot and changed its code to rip off the arms of endoskeletons and chuck them into a pile. The thing is it didn't go to plan and the robot went rouge ripping of Gills arms. Someone called Daniel sees this amd runs away running through piles of rubble and circus mascots. Then he shouts over to the cement workers seal the door and then the story ends. The description of this robot was "It was a tall slender figure the wirring noise was barely heard now over Gills Agonising screams". I think a lot of people write off Gregory’s lines at the end of ruin because it’s unclear who is speaking, so they don’t know what to do with that information. It also doesn’t fit cleanly with a theory so they mostly just leave it out. It’s also not clear if that’s even true because there’s a relatively new looking bulldozer that cassie uses to take down the concrete. Whoever locked the mimic down there was also blocking off the tunnels behind it. Those look old too, and the elevator is old, but if it’s been blocked off that long, how did the mimic get the glamrock themed walkie to talk to Cassie in the first place?

I love the irony of John leaving Mat a nice message and that he should get some rest, but made it so Mat had to put in a bit of work so he could decode it xD Also with the Burntrap ending being something that Gregory made up, and the comic about it was made AFTER he had encountered the Mimic, it would explain why they're like another form of Springtrap. Similarly to how Freddy described Vanny when you find her hideout in Fazerblast ("It's like Vanessa, and Bunny."), Gregory has created the Burntrap comic the same way. It's like he took Vanny and the Mimic but combined them as one thing, a creepy robot in a bunny suit. Especially since Vanny doesn't have any visible appearance in that ending. When it comes to Vanessa and Gregory against the Mimic I think it could play out like this: Vanessa (under Glitchtrap's control) is working on the Mimic, and at some point Gregory falls victim to their control too. But somehow he breaks free of that control not long before the gameplay of Security Breach (Explaining his stutter while telling Freddy his name, and his fear of Vanessa, since his head would be a bit fuzzy and a vague memory of Vanessa being 'evil' would be there). Then when Gregory releases Vanessa from Glitchtrap's influence, they lock the Mimic away, since she'd have more knowledge on the reason it's in that location (trying to continue Afton's legacy). But Gregory leaves some stuff behind, including the Freddy walkie-talkie, which the Mimic uses to, well...mimic his voice and lure in Cassie. My brain has melted while typing this :p

At 19:45 I think the 2 images of kids ('the baby and baby') might represent growing up. For instance the kid on the left looks like a newborn/baby whereas the kid on the right looks more like a toddler (as they are able to sit up on their own whereas the other kid is wrapped in a blanket). I think the Candy Cadet story breaks down like this: the Monster is the Mimic, the Mother is Bonnie-Bro, the Boy is Cassie, and the Lullaby is Gregory. Bonnie-Bro traps the Mimic. Then he builds Gregory to comfort his daughter (who we learn during the Roxy section has very few friends). He uses the post-it note room to train up Gregory, so he can go to her party at the Pizza Plex (which we know he was the only one to show up). The Mimic starts to listen in on these training sessions, and learns how to copy him. Then he lures Cassie down to the basement to free him. Looking at it this way, Gregory's rabbit links in the books aren't to Glitchtrap, they're to Bonnie. His creator's favorite mascot.

Theory about the Ruin Candy Cadet story: it says just the mother captured the monster in the basement without the boy, so whatever the mother is captured the mimic by itself. Maybe the mother isn't just Vanessa but Vanessa and Gregory both who captured the monster which then mimicked Gregory to lure Cassie. The idea that Gregory is at least part of the mother could also be that the lullaby comforts the boy and Gregory was a close friend to Cassie and "comforted" her so then the "monster" mimics the "lullaby" could be the mimic imitating Gregory to trick Cassie.

Ryetoast theory I think you should read Matpat. GGY does not equal Gregory, same body, but not the same person. GGY is Gregory with the Glitchtrap/Mimic virus, just like Vanny is Vanessa with the Glitchtrap/Mimic virus. Gregory broke free at the start of Security Breach. He had programmed Freddy to protect him, similar to in the GGY book. When the Glitchtrap/Mimic virus tried to command Freddy to harm Gregory it conflicted with his programming to protect him. This caused the meltdown we saw at the beginning of Security Breach causing him to boot in safe mode with neither set of programming in place. It's thought that GGY was playing the arcade machines and getting high scores and stumbled upon the Balloon Boy arcade and found the glitch. The glitch currently doesn't do anything, but what if the reason is because solving the glitch was what first freed Gregory, he freed himself. As for your question about Burntrap being the Mimic, the problem with calling Burntrap completely fake like the rest of the comics is we know that the Blob is real. Cassie saw it in Ruin. So if the Blob is real then why would the other big bad from the same comic not also be real? Perhaps the events of the comic aren't real, but the characters are? Hard to say.

@@scottcockton Some people think that Glitchtrap isn't Afton, but the second Mimic from the books that wasn't physical (the one in the tree in the pizzaplex). They believe that in the games it either watched an "Afton highlight reel" of everything bad that he did in the mini games in Help Wanted or that the virus was infected with Afton's agony, but probably not his remnant, and that's why it seems obsessed with Afton. Either way it results in a similar entity that could then possess a physical body. Was that body a random endo or the physical Mimic that Vanessa tried to mix with Afton's remains and fix up with other endo parts? No one knows. Either way it's just a theory and just as valid as Glitchtrap actually being Afton's remnant scanned from the chip in Scraptrap into Help Wanted. We don't have enough evidence to say either way, thus why I said Glitchtrap/Mimic virus :)

Taking the books aside, I’ve had a theory about the Mimic’s origins for a really long time. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’d at least like to hear other people talk about it. In FNAF 4, William Afton is presumed to be the one telling his son “I will put you back together”. Despite that, we never see him actually try it. At the same time, we have the mimic, a copycat killer that, when broken and given agony by its creator, followed in Afton’s footsteps specifically. We know that William Afton is obsessed with control, as well as bringing back his dead kids, as seen with Baby. Lastly, we can infer that the Mimic, and the AI that seems to stem from it, specifically focus on recreating the Aftons, as seen in the Post-it Room in the Pizzaplex sewers. What if William Afton built the Mimic? It would certainly be in character for him to do so, and the mimic being linked to William so much would make a lot more sense. William could have built the underground lab and M.X.E.S console that we see under the FNAF 6 location (which we’ve been theorizing could have previously been Fredbear’s Family Diner) at a time when FFD was still open, shortly after the crying child’s death. To that extent, the mimic lab would have been where William first experimented with subterranean locations, AI programming, and the scooper, all things he would later use for Circus Baby’s Pizza World. The scene between Edwin and the mimic, where the mimic is shown holding the Tiger plushie and causes Edwin to break the machine in anger, could have easily happened between William and the mimic too. I mean, the plushie could have been the Fredbear plush that the crying child was known to hold, and that William evident kept with him all the way up to the building of Circus Baby’s rentals. In turn, William breaking the mimic out of anger produces two monsters: one that began his destruction of life with a seemingly emotionless robot, and one that, after infused with those same murderous thoughts through agony, would lead a similar legacy long after the first monster’s death. Even after William was trapped in purgatory, the mimic promised that he would always come back, through a being that reflected his own violent nature. But wait, there’s more! I and a lot of other people have been suspecting that our newest protagonist Jeremy was one of the bullies involved in the Bite of 83, the same event that would lead to the mimic’s creation. Under this theory, our current protagonist and antagonist are connected by a common event, which could easily lead to stronger stories possibilities later down the line (assuming we see more Jeremy, it’s currently up in the air in that regard). But perhaps the most interesting detail is one that’s been staring us in the face all along. When Cassie first meets the mimic in its true form, she asks “who are you?”. The mimic simply repeats “I’m Gregory”. Sure, this line is to build up suspense and has an obvious role in the story. But perhaps there’s something more to that line. Gregory as a character has been presented as a mirror of the crying child, at least on a symbolic level as evident with the hillside images in the Princess Quest and Burntrap endings (I’m leaving the robot Gregory discussion out of this one). What if, through their shared connection to the crying child, Gregory and the mimic had a lot more in common than we thought. What if the mimic really meant it when it said “I’m Gregory”? Please, if anybody sees this, feel free to respond to this post. I really just want more people to think about this, because I have the feeling it might change where we see FNAF’s story heading in the future.

Here's an idea. What if Greg and Vanessa are together what candy cadet calls mother and Cassy is the boy. We know that Cassy knew who Gregory is. Pointing out the the two were friends. But she doesn't know enough about what is going on in the pizzaplex so Vanessa and Gregory thought it would be better if she stayed in the dark. After Gregory releases Vanessa, together they catch mimic (aka the monster) they seal it up and when Cassy asks about the sounds it made they told her that it was fine and switched the topic or something idk. But than the mimic stops screaming and learns to mimic the mothers voice (Gregory and potentially Vanessa) luring Cassy to open the door and free the mimic. If you tell the story this way it makes more sense in my opinion but I'd like to see what others and possibly mat think also.

I have a theory that Gregory might be a robot, based on my observations. Every time Gregory encounters Vanny, there seems to be an electric interference, leading me to believe that Vanny might not be a physical person at certain times. Instead, I suspect she could be some kind of VR/AR projection for Gregory. Another detail that supports my theory is when Cassie wears the Vanny mask, triggering the other bunny to chase her, accompanied by a similar electrical interference effect. I hope Matt notices this observation.

Here’s what I think. In fnaf graphic novel the twisted ones Charlie is working on a project that involves 2 robot heads, Jessica ask Charlie what she’s programming them to do but Charlie’s states that she’s not programming them rather she’s helping them to learn on their own, that sounds very similar to how the mimic works also if you look at the heads in the graphic novel they do have a somewhat resemblance to the mimic.

I think that Candy Cadet's story is about Cassie and her dad who traps the monster in the basement. The boy and the mother are like a daughter and the father with swapped genders. Also the mother went to get some food which in modern times means so much as go to work which Cassie's father did

If the mimic is burntrap and Gregory knew about both of them, then perhaps burntrap is simply what Gregory thought the mimic looked like. Bc if he was possessed by glitchtrap and he's trying to bring afton back, he'd probably think that the robot should look like a deformed bunny or something based on what he already knows about Afton and his current condition. He never saw the mimic until he and Vanessa trapped him in the basement.

i think if this theory ends up being true there has to be some narrative where gregory used to be evil but isnt anymore for some reason thats pretty much the main missing link, with that i think this would be a perfect story of what happened
