And from now on, having that money in the bank will have more suspense because there’s chances of having not successful cash in. That's a reasonable statement but we have to remember what CM Punk said to Drew McIntyre a while back, he told Drew that he was going to make his life a living hell, the way things ended at money in the bank is exactly how you not only draw heat, but this is how you make a star miserable at least in the story, money in the bank is easily the most career changing match for star, so when they cash in only for someone to cost them, that literally shuts them out from instant title contention, essentially putting Drew at the back of the line

Wouldn’t have made as big an impact. Wouldn’t have screwed Seth also. Think about it, who in that group was likely going to win a world championship within the next year? Carmelo and Andrade would have been telegraphed as failed cash-ins, Chad Gable has a lot going on right now, and he seemed to be more involved with titles like the Intercontinental title (not to mention being involved in the Wyatt stuff), Jey maybe, but not likely, not enough to take him out of contention for other titles. LA Knight seems to be more towards the US title at the moment. Story-wise, this was the best possible outcome. Priest held it for almost a year before, so having a lengthier break from it isn’t the worst thing. It doesn’t instantly elevate anyone and it can actually be a hinderance in certain scenarios (like with some of these entrants it would have been, since Knight wouldn’t be going after the US title if he won it).

Absolutely not a waste. 2022 with Austin Theory was a total waste. Had no direction and Roman was clearly not getting cashed in on. This year with Cody, he’s not getting cashed in on and Gunther (which will most likely win) is not getting cashed in on. They did the smart thing this time around and utilized the Men’s MITB as prop to further fuel a storyline that’s already on fire. They haven’t even had a match yet and it’s the most captivating story alongside the Bloodline drama. It’s layers upon layers and it’s already been half of a year and the storyline/build up has been on point. This was far from a waste. It would’ve been a waste if someone won when both world champions aren’t losing. I’ll be in the minority disagreeing with everyone else but I think people just wanna complain instead of looking in the bigger picture of things.

I can't get over the little disappointment I have because people like Jey Uso, Chad Gable and LA Knight were in that match but they gave it to Drew. To use it for a feud that was already red hot. So I get it from a logical booking pov, but still felt let down.

It would have been a corner they couldn’t get themselves out of. None of those guys in the match need to be world champion within the year, they will find their own way to the top.

Sometimes something is predictable because it’s the best thing to happen story-wise. I’m glad they don’t swerve on that just for the sake of it. Anyone saying Punk should have done it during the ladder match is ignoring the Seth Rollins part of the equation. Punk screwed BOTH of them. It would be a nice win for some of the others, but because, like you said, there’s not really any good conceivable ways forward for them with the briefcase which wouldn’t interfere with their ongoing storylines. So it would have been a waste in the end. The briefcase isn’t an instant elevation, that has been proven time and time again.

I feel like the super long reigns have warped how people think about championships. The purpose of the briefcase is to choose an opportune moment to become champion. People like Cody and gunther(if he wins) are seen as too strong to be beaten quickly but that’s where the briefcase tips things in your favor. In fact it’s the only way to realistically see the top tier guys drop the belt. So imo saying something like they won’t drop to a cash in doesn’t really make sense because that’s in essence the most believable way to drop it.

McIntyre winning makes no sense It's hilarious to me that Ross simply is not thinking a cash in at midcard belt is not legitimate, especially for a younger wrestler. Carmelo Hayes literally used his breakout tournament win and instead of cashing in on the NXT Championship, he cashed in on the North American Championship and became one of the biggest NXT stars ever since. Oba Femi did the exact same thing. Any of the money in the bank participants could have cashed in. Also why is everybody so ok for the world title scene to have such locked down title reigns where for an entire year, you won't see a new champion???? I thought everybody hated that with Roman, now all of a sudden they love it??

I'm here for Drew losing it the same night. Wasn't wasted. It did a few things. 1. Punk's actions not only screwed Drew, they screwed Seth as well. I like that. 2. It keeps up Punk's gimmick of seeing Drew and going "I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, i hate the way that you dress." That much more entertaining. 3. Makes for a great story to lead into summerslam. These two already have the best storyline on RAW and havent wrestled ONCE.

The briefcase is a prop to be used as a progression point to the story being told. Last year, people constantly bitched about Priest waiting almost the entire year before cashing in, like the time taken was more important than the moment itself. This made perfect sense. Punk and McIntyre have been at each other's throats all year. Drew's constantly let his hatred of Punk blind his judgment and have it cost him big. Calling his shot and proclaiming exactly when he was going to use it if he won was another example of this. It made perfect sense. ...and people who are complaining about the feud not even being over a belt are just the most base-level marks with no imagination. Embarrassing.

I think for the story telling it’s good cuz the Punk vs Drew feud need this and we also have a little more tease to a potential Seth vs Punk. And I think it’s better to not wait 6-7 months to cash in. For the girls other story we will have a regular use of it cuz even if I love tiffy she doesn’t have a big story line so make sense to me to just wait a moment and really put the trigger on her

Eh, from what I’ve seen on Twitter, this PPV was a disappointment. And from what I saw, I’d say that yes, the Men’s briefcase was definitely wasted. They have a whole year to cash in, and wrestling is so unpredictable when it comes to: injuries, emergencies, etc. You never know, what may happen in a match or in real-life, so I think this decision in the long run, might cause regrets.

I agree, my issue with it is Drew and Punk didn't need it. Also, Punk is injury prone and WWE has a lot of people out with injuries right now. You never know what may happen. So in the long run this may not be the right decision.

I agree with JDFromNY take on this.... none of the guys were going to win the title in the next 365 days, especially when Gunther is going to have a yr long reign as world champion, and Cody already has Rock almost confirmed at WrestleMania 41. Having Drew cash it in to drop it NOW, leaves the thing in the past and is not a prop that leads nowhere. Triple H knows exactly what he's doing.... the MITB briefcase would've disrupted storyline, so he got rid of it.

I don’t think Gunther is going to have the title that long. I think he holds it until the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber latest. But it’s clear that they’re building to the match we were supposed to get last April: CM Punk vs Seth Rollins, World Heavyweight Championship, Night 1, Wrestlemania.

I don’t believe for one second that someone made the comment that this feud isn’t working because there’s no title involved, if that’s the case then WWE should only give 2-3 hours of screen time to their champions and their rivals. Secondly, you do not get the same reaction from Drew if Punk just pushes him off the ladder as he tries to get the briefcase or anything similar. Drew needed to win and feel like he was untouchable heading into his cash in because he’s desperate for the title, him winning the briefcase and losing it the same night (making him the first man to do so) adds a lot more weight to the rivalry and makes their feud much more entertaining.

Drew winning the briefcase was such a major dissapointment because he cashed it in way to early. Damien Priest had the briefcase for nearly a year and he cashed it in at the right time.

For me it wasn’t wasted because realistically look how the World title pictures are set up for the next 6-12 months. Gunther won’t be losing anytime soon after Summerslam & Cody won’t be losing unless it’s to someone like Orton or someone from the Bloodline. The men’s briefcase just wasn’t in the cards for this year so what happened was a blessing long term.

I mean if I was fantasy booking it, give me a Chad Gable MitB win. Keep him too scared/paranoid of the Wyatt Sick6 to actually cash in so you can continue with the world titles' storylines uninterrupted and finish whatever the creative plan is for Gable with the Wyatt Sick6. Then when you're ready you can have him use the briefcase to do what he never could before: defeat Gunther for a title. By then he'll have the Creeds to back him up so with Champion's advantage you could go on to do some fun things to keep Gunther from just winning the title right back while still protecting him. I don't think the briefcase was "wasted" on Drew in a vacuum, but when I zoom out and look back to see 4 of the last 8 men's briefcases have failed to result in a title it makes me less excited about future MitB matches in general.

I've been 50/50 on this. On one hand, it kind of kills someone else opportunity but if they already have long term plans that doesn't involve the rest of the MITB, it wouldn't matter anyway. Punk costing Drew AND Seth at the same time is two birds with one stone. Keeps heat on one feud and plants seeds for the other. Cuz you already know Seth is on deck after Drew.

Punk screwing Drew ‘in the manner’ which he did, makes perfect sense for Punk’s character. It’s the more delicious way of doing it, to have Drew think he’s that close to redemption, only to have it snatched away. The concern, is for Jey Uso. Because for four years, the Bloodline story laid out key details as to why Roman and Jimmy (In their own ways), held Jey down. They both saw, and feared, his potential of rising on his own. It’s why Roman made him the right hand man, to keep him close and use Jimmy to always reel Jey in. It’s why Jimmy cost Jey every world title match he ever had with Roman, and voted against Jey becoming the right hand man. If Jey just goes back to his family without having won a solo title, it would fly in the face of years of story. He needs to become a Champion to justify and confirm their fears. Then, when they try to get him to come back, they have to work through the reality they always feared: They now need him a lot more than he needs them. So, there’s still time until then, but I can understand the concern from fans about how this affects Jey.

Nah, I don't think it was a waste of time. In all honesty, we really didn't need to have two Superstars walking around with a briefcase. The story that is being told is what made this years MITB intriguing. Drew literally hated the idea of it, and it back fired on him, which will potentially make him hate it even more. Also I believe CM Punk's timing was perfect, it truly looked like Seth had the 3 count, it also resparked a feud that everyone forgot about, Seth was pissed, which can set up a potential heel turn. This is juicy. Triple H and creative are in their BAG!!!

Tbh I’m glad we got a year w/o Men MITB…it keeps the idea fresh and helps create more opportunities for a storyline without the hovering MITB story
