Matt, to address your closing dialog: I don't know how it is you don't age 10 years for every 10 hours you spend working. It's phenomenal how energetic and upbeat you remain, with the thousand things you do on any given day. You're an inspiration, on TOP of being a pleasure to watch (along with the entire team).

Okay some tips for welding aluminum 1 make sure it’s as clean as you can get it 2 I would preheat the stuff a tiny bit before welding has aluminum loves to hold moisture 3 please wear respirators while welding or near welding aluminum as it has a high chromium content that can lead to chromium poisoning or cancer 4 aluminum quality fluctuates cause some aluminum to be terrible to weld because of the impurities in the metal correct me if I’m worng but been welding aluminum for about 8 years now and just what I found and learned

Good advice! Also, the mig gun, has a voltage adjustment on the gun. It’s on the bottom of the handle. No need to go back to the mig welder for adjustment.

Just add to go slow and manage the heat like it's really thin steel. It moves the heat away really fast but that means the whole piece is warmer than you think and it goes from stable to blowing a hole really, really fast. If mig welding aluminium, keep your spool of filler wire clean. Seen some people trying to weld with manky wire and you can imagine the results😂

Cool video. Matt I ran an Automotive shop for many years. here are some suggestions of things to carry on every recovery vehicle in a go bag. Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection headband flashlights, Radios. I noticed Kaulin got hit in the face by a rock from the winch line, neither of you had safety glasses. make a sling for the remote winch controller on the wrecker so you can have it over your shoulder instead of on the tire or whatever. Katelynn would be my choice to put in charge of this, she seems to be organized. at the same time, she could create a check list for each vehicle, so things don't get left out, like customer keys, & the go bags are stocked. you guys do good things you have a great team; I enjoy your videos.

If Rhett did his job properly the Wrecker would be stocked properly. I agree Matt needs to set some of the team more 'senior' roles and Katlynn is a good girl with her head screwed on and a lot more experience than is portrayed on these videos. This message is for Kaulin. Aluminum spool gun lesson. Always forward push your puddle, this gives good pen and no black carbon, no cleaning afterwards. Always clean your aluminum with acetone if the aluminum is new. Always use only argon. If you hook up your spool gun to the same MIG machine you should be able to trigger jump from steel to aluminum just by hitting the trigger. Dual bottle set up. Mig C25 and spool Argon. NEVER PULL AN ALUMINUM PUDDLE. ALWAYS PUSH. The drive rolls,,, only right enough to move the wire, never tighten to the point where the wire comes out curved, just so it comes out straight. 25 is way tooooo hot. Wire speed should be around 6 on your spool handle. That high pitch zipping sound is not correct . You want a quieter flow. Some what like tig and MiG sound mixed. Not silent like tig, not buzzy like MiG. Kinda a nice flat puddle sound and a flat layout. Let it cool down before you ever lay a multi pass. Good luck man.. aluminum can be fun once you get the hang of it.

I can sympathize with Matt, about not eating lunch. I was a Master Carpenter/builder and when I was building certain things, like cabinetry, usually working alone...I'd get on a roll and would just forget...next thing, I'd be, "hmmm, I'm hungry" look at clock and it would be 1:30...oops.. SUGGESTION to address over heating possibilities... Get another windshield washer reservoir and pump, a big one, then get 3,4 nozzles, put the nozzles in front of the radiator...when temp starts climbing, "spritz" the radiator, you could set up a timer, rheostat, even thermostatically control..automatic, when reach a high temp. for spikes, that would be a simple help.
@tjshine7444
@tjshine7444 2 күн бұрын
Sorry, but the "spritzers" idea doesn't work in the West. The dust us so fine and sticks to water droplets so easy, the radiator would be a mud crusted blob after one trip. Ask me how I know...

It's difficult to find the right manager, but not impossible, if the owner is consistent, not completely arbitrary. A good manager will learn what the owner would do if they were there. That's why it is so much easier to recruit from within. I don't care how good a manager is, it takes months for an outsider to gain that understanding. And don't forget, in this case, a manager will need to consider Matt and Jamie's wishes. Matt and Jamie, remember that. Hire a good manager, then give them space. COMMUNICATE with them. Not about them. Give them time and space to learn your system. And they will make what you think of as mistakes. That's how everyone learns, if given the chance.

Matt / MORR - 2 thoughts... love seeing Katelynn in the mix. I'm sure she is a great inspiration to others!!!! As are your boys/family. Second thought. Call the local Civil Air Patrol (CAP). They/we can do oversight flights in aircraft and provide pictures to the local EMS, Fire, Rescue and others... We've done this for a major PGA event... and then the authorities stitch together a large 8-10 foot print out of the site... They create a "Command Center" and label tents and rescue and other KEY locations... Then, they can communicate VERY FAST... and say things like "we have a possible heart attach at Tent 6"... and everyone KNOWS where this location is. Otherwise - it can be Kaos. CAP is free... an auxiliary of the USAF... and staffed by 65,000 volunteers across all the USA... Please USE IT. Just get them involved a few weeks out. I'll come and run all (emergency) communications if needed. Best regards. Have fun!

Watching every video no matter how slow or fast, or what projects are going on. This and FabRats finally got me inspired to finish my truck project of 13 years now I promised myself I’d finish before I lost my father to cancer. But we’re pushing forward and managing life as best as we know how. Every video gets me outside to take another step.

Hey Matt! Some of the 67-72 60 series trucks had a drivers side hood air induction system that would work really well with what you’re trying to do. A lot of the heavy duty trucks had them from the 60’s. It would be super cool to use that assembly

I know the feeling Matt. When I ran my own workshop, as we grew, there became so many different aspects to try & manage. It's honestly a great problem to have but as you know, it takes finding the right people to surround yourself with to make it a success. I wish you well there, cause I found it hard to find the right people who wanted to stick around or at least some who actually cared for what they did! I can honestly see the boys fitting in well in the fab work.

Matt, you should and probably are extremely proud of your boys! I enjoy watching you teach the boys to be good men! Of everything you present in your videos… watching your boys become a product of your mentoring is impressive and inspiring. I am jealous to an extent that you have given your family the opportunity to learn your trade . I am a mechanic at heart and also try to show my boys how to wrench, …. Just wish I had the time and space platform you have. GOOD FOR YOU. I’d like to see you show how proud you are of them… watching you videos over the years, I am proud of them

I personally think your kids are great fabricators. Kahlin and Rett are both good thinkers. I do think you may be hard to work for. Not because you are a bad guy but you have a picture in your mind and you like things the way you like them. Trust me, I have the same problem. They just want to please you. Loosen the rope. Let them do some things wrong, kinda like you have for years. You can always cut it back off and redo it. That's how we learn. There are three videos that I look forward to and don't miss, yours, Fab Rats and Robby Layton. You are all quality people with good hearts.

Don't sweat the electric fan, it's the best decision I've made for my truck, and my buddy put a couple on his 73 Omega. Both run cooler, and you get less drag on the engine, increasing hp, mpg, and your waterpumps life span. Nice work on the big blue👍

Yes, of course you have some importent points Matt. After what you told your company is growing so fast that you are in a breaking point in terms of your organization, where the most importent is to find the areas where your own presence are most important. And as known, if you have to hire more people you probebly want someone who can raise some areas in the organization. It's often wise to pick an high skilled chairman of the board, one you really can trust outside your own family, with the right experience to know where to stand on the brakes or put the pedal to the metal. As known the most difficult often is when a smaller organization is growing very fast, but either you will keep the CEO in your family or hire someone, in importent questions it could be a bit easier for you and the CEO if it's possible to take a phone call to an experienced chairman you can trust outside the company and the family, someone you can have an open discussion with in cases that really matters. Best wishes from an Norwegian friend.
