Nice to see you filming in Colombo. The best biriyani place is Hotel Buhari in Colombo 10 (Maradana) and the best place for Lamprais is Green Cabin in Colombo 3 (kollupitiya). Try both places since you are in Colombo either place is just 15 - 30 minutes tuk-tuk ride from where you are filming in Pettah Market.

Hey, lumprais is a very traditional Dutch Burgher dish... but Sri Lankans loosely use the word lumprais to EVERYTHING... some recommendations for lamprais is Dutch Burger Union (in Thumulla), Fab and Green Cabin..

One of good places in Sri Lanka that I would suggest you to try and enjoy some nice Lamprais is at the "VOC Cafe" at 114 Reid Avenue The Dutch Burgher Union, Colombo 00400 Sri Lanka. Hope your family and you can visit The "VOC Cafe" which is done by The Dutch Burgher Union in Colombo 4 Sri Lanka. The Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon is an organisation of Dutch Burghers in Sri Lanka. The Dutch Burghers community in Sri Lanka are Sri Lankans who have Dutch and Sri Lankan mixed ancestral heritage. VOC stands for Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, which was the Dutch East India Company founded in 1602. The Lamprais in Sri Lanka has it's roots stemming from the Dutch Colonial times in Sri Lanka. If you do some research via the Internet you can learn more about Lamprais, VOC, The Dutch Burghers community in Sri Lanka, The Dutch Burgher Union etc. While you are near Pettah (Colombo 11, Sri Lanka) next time with your family, it might interest your family and you to visit the Colombo Dutch Museum as well which displays over 3000 museum objects related to the Dutch who ruled coastal areas of Sri Lanka. (1658-1796). Hope you all will be able to learn more about the Dutch Colonial Period of Sri Lanka and enjoy some Lamprais at The "VOC Cafe" before you leave Sri Lanka to go to Malaysia. That person didn't understand what you asked. Sri Lankans agrees to your word when you feed the answer. If you say is this Colombo, yes? They will reply as yes. Buriyani and Biriyani are two different things. Buriyani is the Sri Lankan version of Biriyani but the way we make it is little bit different.

Sri Lankans call it "buriyani" while the rest of the world says biriyani. I would call it Sri Lankan Muslim food just like the faluda that you had, though now enjoyed by all the communities. I understand both dishes have their origins in Persia/Iran. An authentic Sri Lankan Lamprais is not easy to find , since it contains both pork & beef & it's quite an elaborate dish. But there are "fake" versions containing only chicken quite freely available. Dylan eating with the spoon really impressed me , since his dance but he let himself down a little bit at the end. Nice one.

I think generally Sri Lanka is cheaper, which has a lot to do with the currency at the moment. Sri Lanka is very expensive for the locals as they do not make more money but prices have at least doubled. For us, exchange rate is good now, so it is cheaper.
