Lol don't do it. They're horribly unreliable and break down constantly. By the time you get them they have 500,000 miles and usually rust is right around the corner. They're built to a cost and you'll wind up spending a ton of money upgrading basic components like brakes and body parts. There's a reason that busses are cheap while things like vans are more expensive.
@CheapCreep Жыл бұрын
My brother has a coworker who's been doing that for a few years, and it sounds 1,000x more difficult than just buying an RV. Also, it's cheaper to just build a working RV upfront.

Two buses, back to back with a couple in the middle (like a train car coupler). Then, replace the transmissions with 480v generators and the differentials with industrial 480v motors. The front ends would remain independently steerable so that you have front axle and rear axle steering to help you make it around those tight corners. Granted, you're probably going to have to make a crow's nest behind the drivers seats so your rear axle driver can see but it would work. It'd be a combo of a train and a ladder firetruck with an independently steerable rear end (or one of the many other pieces of equipment with independently steerable rear ends)
@georgehill3087 Жыл бұрын
Weld them back to back so you can drive them from both fronts. Although, the turning radius would be horrendous, so buy a bendy bus and weld the school buses to it. Better yet, put another one at the top of each, remove the bottom driving controls, link the top controls to the bottom and drive from the top.

school buses are cheap used because of two things: 1) they have a very short service life for safety reasons 2) it's just a panel van with crappy foam seats in it, it's not very complicated also two more things, your engine might need a head gasket and/or ring job, and I'm pretty sure (depending on where you live) you have to remove the sign and repaint it so it's not yellow or face a hefty fine.
