That was one of those times I just couldn't believe what I was seeing! I can only imagine what it would be like if it happened in the age of social media...

What cracks me up the most about the sport is when a pro racer says, "we were poor when I was growing up." Yeah... having 2 dirt bikes, an RV/Van , and trailer are super cheap Paying for travel, 2 stroke oil, race gas, top end rebuilds, modifying a bike or two, all poor families have those things. Racing isn't a poor persons sport. Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, etc... those are sports poor families can participate in. "We were so poor when I was growing up" LOL... yeah ok.

@drews1899 It's not perspective, it's reality. Poor people cant afford 1 dirt bike let alone multiple and all the expenses of going to the track.

The Alessi's were nothing but a stain on the sport. Nothing but hype. They were the reason the manufacturers are so gunshy about massive contracts to unproven riders. Honda was angry when they went to KTM for pro, but once that first season was over, they were grinning from ear to ear. That was the perfect "Believe the Reality!" moment.

If you want to know some crazy stuff.. i was there in the RV hospitality area at glen Helen that day with my dad. I was standing literally right next to Mr. Alessi and we had a perfect view of that accident and saw the whole thing the reaction to it all from him. Stone cold

I have a 3 year old who rips on his ktm 50sx but I'm ganna make sure he knows that we just ride for fun and thats first and foremost, if your having the most fun on the track the wins will come along with that.

I kinda looked at Tedesco and Alessi as opposites as far as how they were growing up racing. Alessi got tons of support, attention, risked a lot of family resources whereas Tedesco was kinda the product of that "New Mexico Mafia" they had back in those days, you had Keith Johnson, Kevin Jonhson, Ryan Clark, Ivan and Gio Tedesco, and a few others all from Albuquerque. I always felt like those guys probably pushed each other into being as good as they were. Any time one of those dudes showed up at the local tracks it was mind blowing how fast they were.

I still remember Alessi breaking his brake or clutch lever off after one of his brainless crashes and then crying about it. That's the same team and "leadership" that shined a laser in RV's eyes and is handling Friese now - which we all see is a "cow patty show".

I always think about this one... if Reed's bike had blown up just one lap earlier at Daytona, Windham woulve been a 450 champ.

Tony Alessi claimed that he had been a pro in his day. I grew up in the same area and have no recollection of Tony being a pro in the area. Hard to believe the hype when the guy spewing it was a fraud. Mike was legit but never handled the pressure quite well enough.

My family chased the dream coming up with Alessi and Rv.. didn't work out.. now I'm a fucking dishwasher!! Literally any other sport is less detrimental when you face the facts of "you didn't make it".. I choose to believe it's a success story because I DIDN'T end up like Larry linkogle mike cinqmars Nico izzi Trigger gunn etc.. the "believe the hype" way is absolutely NOT the way to raise a kid in the sport.. I live everyday feeling like I let my family down

Are y’all kidding me? The most controversial motocross championship is and will always be when Yamaha had Bob Hannah pull over to “Let Brock Bye” denying Danny La Porte the rightful championship. The entire Yamaha team should have been disqualified for that. Disgusting.
