I was fishing top water one time at the aquaduct stumbled across somebodys lines in the concrete slab cracks. Pulled up a 25 to 30 lbs catfish. Log rolled him back down the canal bank. Gigantic fish.

That ladder will hold probably hold you. I have some advice for fishing there. I’m disabled when I fish there I have to use a rope. Tie up to my vehicle or any secure metal pole that’s already there .and also my waist. I can’t swim lol. If you not comfortable with that. Other option long gaff, Or long rope and a crab net so you can pull it up from the bridge

Yup, whenever I land a striper I get it to the side of the wall and just backpedal instead of yanking it. The thing that sucks with catfish is sometimes their sharp ass pectoral fins get caught on the cement lol

@bigdade4209 I do buy a new pack of anchovies every time but only in case I run out of the older anchovies. To be honest, that's one of my secrets. I throw whatever is left in the freezer for the next trip. The older anchovies will develop a stink, and that is what attracts the fish...the only problem is, once they thawed out, they get mushy very quickly

You should have gone down the latter. It would have held you up for sure. I've landed tons of fish doing so. If your net is short, you'd have to unless you take your chances scaling aqueduct wall. Crab net would do the job too.

We use our ocean fishing rods for the catfish in the canals of imperial valley. 40-60lb line . Be careful fishing alone. The video does no justice how steep the walls to can be. Not to mention all the slippery sand and gravel around.

Big mistake trying to bring up your big fish by hand. You should've taken your time to fight the fish to wear it out, and then thumb your line and bring it up with your rod inch by inch if necessary.
