Hey Ayse thanks this was useful. I also have a waterpoof over jacket in my topbox, they're not expensive around £12 to £25. On a bad day takes a few seconds to wear over your jacket and keeps you dry.

I am far fro a laundry guru but maybe consider clothes being inside out and zipped up when washing.. This can sometmes reduce risk of damage etc. Also worth doing a drum clean cycle afterwards or maybe some old towels etc....just to avoid minor risk of laundry contamination

Yeah good tips, thanks!

so well done, thanks a lot. i have a fav jacket that after 15 years, obviously has lost its protection. tried and failed with various rubbish sprays, let's hope this does the trick!

A few weeks back I didn't even know this was possible, I used the nikwax wash stuff then the spray worked pretty well!!!!
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
I might give it one more coat with the spray to see how that does

Inside out and maybe even in one of those laundry bags really helps minimize the damage. That's what I do with my cycling gear. I avoid the issue with my motorcycle gear by not going out if there's even a hint of moisture on the road or in the forcast. 😂
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
I was considering putting them in a large laundry bag or pillowcase or something. I think especially if you have a jacket with lots of zippers or vents to get caught

Great video. I didn't see a difference last time. Did a jacket recently. Yet to test it in the rain. I bought a spray but turned out to be for boots/ footwear. 🫣 Ride safe, Lady J Rider

I might give the spray a shot too, to see if that adds a bit of extra waterproofing. Never thought of treating my boots tbh. They always seem to do ok

Just ordered some cleaner and proofing (same brand as you used). I'm sure my jacket needs more than a miracle due to age and condition, around 20 years old 😂. If it doesn't work well nothing lost but if it works I'll try on my new supposedly 100% waterproof jacket that as waterproof as a colinder (will not be buying that brand again). As they say you get what you pay for 😂😂

Interesting! Could it be worth throwing the gear in a second time for that waterproofing coat?
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
I reckon a second coating would improve it by quite a bit

Hi. Found this video when looking for tips on how to clean my jackets. Do you think it's worth, or good, the product (both the tech wash and the tx direct)? Another question is if the interior of the jacket is affected by these liquids, because the inside doesn't need water proofing, so do you noted some change in the fabric, for example? Also the same for mesh panels, if your jacket has done of those. Best regards and ride safe.
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
I'd say it's worth it but maybe I could have done another coat with a spray on waterproofer for extra protection. The only thing you need to do with the inside is remove a thermal liner if there is one
@macavenco Жыл бұрын
thanks. my question was more in the sense if the inside material (not the liners that are removable) may be affected in the long term because of the contact with the tx direct liquid (assuming the tech wash is not so abrasive/hard on the fabric materials), if some abnormal wear was noticed. And the same goes for the mesh panels (if existing).
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
@macavenco no I think its fine to use all over the jacket

Why do you speak of goretex as if it's some miracle product? Any laminated gear is going to be far better than some factory DWR and a waterproof liner
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
Because goretex is pretty much considered the king of waterproofing in any outdoor sport
@LKsenpai Жыл бұрын
Gore-Tex is not the outter layer that provide the "water beading off" effect which is called the DWR effect. Gore-Tex is under the outter layer that provide waterproofing and breathability. Your jacket can still become wet from the exterior if the DWR is wore off. Once it's wore off and water gets through the outter layer, your Gore-Tex could eventually become "wet-out" if too much water builds off.@@ayserides
@ayserides Жыл бұрын
@@LKsenpai sure, which is why you'd rewaterproof like I'm doing here?
