Please explain these sheets that 'are missing the mattress cover'? You just have the edges and not the centre?
@loisruthstrom8143 Жыл бұрын
@@amethyst1826 Not matress cover, but fitted sheet with elastic vs. flat sheet! Fitted sheets were invented, because flat sheets had to be tucked under firmly with "hospital corners". Also, there was no such thing as perma press. Sheets, tablecloths, curtains and clothes all had to be ironed! The ringer actually pressed wrinkles into the fabric, so after being dried on the line, there were still bad creases. And no steam irons back then, either. You could buy a little sprinkler that fit into the mouth of a soda bottle. You filled that with water and sprinkled the wrinkles as you ironed. Thank Heaven for spin out washing machines, tumble dryers, perma press fabrics and fitted sheets!!! 👍😄

I just came across your video today and was happily surprised to see your wonderful tutorials for making these charming rugs. I love them!! Thank you for teaching in a very patient way for newbies to understand your technique. You make it look so easy! I appreciate your video on how to wash them and reshape them. That would be my main concern after creating a beautiful rug by hand. Thanks again and God Bless you, dear lady 🙏❤

It was wonderful to have your tutorials to help with issues I encountered that were not covered in the class. Now this video is so helpful in washing them. Have you ever tried putting them in the dryer? Thank you so much!!:)

I find in general, that a 12 inch fan, or even a smaller pair, will very much speed up the drying process, more than you would think. Do it just the way you did and add a fan, move it around a bit if you can, change towels like you said. Probably any one at the dollar store or stores like that.

My mom used to mag these very large for our living room but never showed me how...thank you from the bottom of my heart...they are just lovely. Was wondering, if they get a bit wet from taking a bath, is it OK to drape on the side of tub to dry out?
@BarriJayneMakes3 жыл бұрын
Glad you are now able to make your own. Hanging over the bath should be fine. It may create a bend, but should straighten out once it's back on the floor. 😊

I wonder if that "scotch guard" fabric protector spray would be useful, in the case of the floor mats at least?
@BarriJayneMakes2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I don't use anything special when I wash my rugs, just ordinary detergent.
@Kayenne542 жыл бұрын
@@BarriJayneMakes Ah. The product I'm talking about is lightly sprayed onto fabrics like lounge cushions etc. It helps protect the fabric against staining. Usually recommended when you buy a new armchair/lounge or even kitchen dining chairs which have fabric covers on the cushions. It helps make them better protected against dirt, moisture and spills. (or supposed to). Helps keep them looking "newer" longer. Thank you for your comprehensive, easy to understand video too. Saved to my "watch again later" list 🙂

Love the video, you do a great job of teaching this technique. You also have a great voice for this. I had a question about working with denim, do you make your strips thinner, since the fabric is thick? Thanks for sharing, I have the big now. Lol
@BarriJayneMakes6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your lovely message, Suzanne. The strips for the denim mat was approx 1 1/2 cms wide (I think) and it was soft denim. You can see it in my other video at 10m50s kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3yronmlncZnoMU The thicker the fabric, the thinner the strips. I usually cut approx 2in strips when using duvet covers, but cut 3-4in to get a thicker sturdier rug. Hope that helps. Happy rug making! 😊

Pretty rugs! Is there a way to make these easily with no fraying on raw edges? Thanks.
@BarriJayneMakes4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think there will always be some fraying, depending on the fabric type. I found the fraying showed up more when I use jeans fabric, but it looked quite nice once they've been washed. Sorry, I thought I'd already replied.

I want to make my first one....just curious, why do you leave the end pieces long instead of tucking them back through the loops??
@BarriJayneMakes Жыл бұрын
There are two pieces of fabric, throughout this rug making. One is the 'spine', which is needed until the rug is completed. The other is the 'working' fabric, which is used to create the knots and secure the 'spine'. Apologies if I've misunderstood your question.
@chrisschanen2 жыл бұрын
Do you use cotton material? Or doesn't it matter? How thick did you cut the blue jean material?
@BarriJayneMakes2 жыл бұрын
You can use most material, as long as it's washable and not likely to shrink too much. The jeans was quite a thin fabric and i think the cut was roughly 20cms wide.

Thank you Barri for your video - this is so very helpful. I have a quick question. My mother-n-law's basement flooded last week. I brought home all of her Amish rugs 30+ of them - so I can wash them for her. If I wash them, can I lie them outside on a patio to dry? Then after a few hours on one side - turn them over to dry on the other side? Generally, how long do they take to dry? I am concerned that there might be moisture / dampness inside of the rugs. Do you have any suggestions as to how to store the ones she is not using when they get back to her house? Would you just leave them stacked & folded or would you leave them flat and pile them on top of one another? Or would I buy totes? There will be shelves built for the many quilts she has as well as her Amish rugs. She will also have a dehumidifier running all the time to keep her rugs dry and her quilts dry. Thank you so much.
@BarriJayneMakes4 жыл бұрын
HI Judy, sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's basement. Hope it will be sorted without too much difficulty. Wow, so many rugs!!! Yes, do leave them on the patio to dry. Maybe put a towel underneath as well to help with the drying process. Definitely turn often and give a little stretch each time. They do take a while to dry. Once they are almost fully dry, you can leave them on backs of chairs or over a washing line to finish airing out. I usually roll the ones I don't use or fold into quarters. It can take a day to flatten back out, but it does goes back to normal. If I had the space I'd leave them stacked flat. Either way, make sure they are absolutely dry before storing. Good luck with getting everything back to order. All the best!

I just subscribed to your channel after watching your video on how to make an Amish knot round rug. I was amazed! I would like to make these as gifts and of course for my house as well. I have hardwood floors so I was wondering if you could recommend anything that I can put underneath the rugs to make them nonslip. I would like to be able to wash them as well of course so the nonstick material underneath the rug would have to be washable as well or completely seprate from the rug itself. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your great vidoes!
@BarriJayneMakes6 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for the sub, Rachael! I too have hard flooring and use a non slip underlay, similar to this one www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/textiles-rugs/rugs/stopp-anti-slip-underlay-art-80227877/ It works very well. I laid two pieces alongside each other, then trimmed to a circular shape. I had thought of sewing it to the rug, but worried it might make it difficult to reshape when washed, so I keep them separate. These will definitely make lovely handmade gifts, whether it is a rug or small table mats. Enjoy your new craft! 😊

I have to say those rugs were absolutely gorgeous. But I could not continue to watch this video. You cannot put that many rugs into a machine. You risk breaking the machine! Not only that it’s not good for the rugs.

thank you! I'm just showing that they are washable, it's not overloaded and people can use their own judgment in regards to how they fill their washing machines. I've washed all my rugs on numerous occasions and they all wash up perfectly. As long as they are made well with washable fabric, they will survive. My machine is still going strong after 8 years.
