Life hack: if you're walking alone in a sketchy place just call or FaceTime somebody and talk to them on the phone until you get to your car or your where your going. that way an attacker might not attack because the person on other line could hear or see what happened

For everyone in the comments saying how this mother is dumb because she let her daughter walk alone, she probably blames herself every single day. Give this poor women a break.
@CherryFrog3215 жыл бұрын
And actually, the mother wasn't even the one who let her walk alone. She assumed that Lindsay and her brother would be walking together, but Lindsey's friend's parents were the ones who sent the brother home after they got into a fight, and then let Lindsey walk alone later. They should have either sent Lindsey home with her brother, or drove her back home later.

I walked everywhere as a kid alone. My parents didn't drive. It's not the mother's fault streets aren't safe nowadays. Parents shouldn't need to drive kids around. I wouldn't of expected mine to drive me around if they did drive. I liked being out and active.

Exactly, yes, some people as mothers and fathers make mistakes, me personally, I would never & have never allow my child or children to walk alone especially at night for any substantial amount of time or distance without me having my eyes on them, in this case I believe by what was said that they probably used the busy system, but her brother was mad with her and went home before her, bottom line like you said ;people should not be snatching kids off the street.

@just-dl6 жыл бұрын
not necessarily; it the brother was mouthing off, her friends mom/dad might reasonably have sent him packing. that's how it was for me growing up....I had 40 or so moms and dads on my case....(and my dad lectured approx. 200 kids any number of times during our collective childhoods). It was different then....this quiet corner of Washington was different...until this. Certainly is worth looking into; I don't disagree... but, it's not wrong at any prima facie level....

I used to. In third grade, a friend and I walked a few blocks up the hill to a bar. My mother was there, drunk, and had asked us to come there to talk to her about my friend wanting to go home. At that age, I knew it was highly dangerous and stupid to be walking the streets around 10 pm, but at my mother's request, I did so. I think my friend and I then parted ways and we walked to our houses by ourselves. She had a much longer walk than I did, and she was used to that. She made that walk often. I went home and fell asleep in my mother's bed. It's a scary world out there, and there have been some dark times in recent history. Something could have happened to my friend or myself. Thankfully, nothing did. I only wish... that it had been me who suffered this child's fate, and not her. I wish that Washington girl was home and safe and well. Why some things happen to some kids and not others, I don't know, but this shit shouldn't happen at all...
@2442cheli7 жыл бұрын
She's the age of my niece I don't let her go anywhere by herself neither does anyone in my family. She'd never be allowed to walk 8blocks alone. And if she did that'd be over with if she told me a man was following her. I've seen so many stories like this and after watching movies like taken and the lovely bones I don't let her go anywhere by herself this is sad but it could have been prevented! I'm so sorry for their loss but this needs to be a lesson to others. I've had one to many nightmares of things happening to her so I am extremely protective of her and her siblings, we need to listen to our children. if your child says a man was following them wouldn't that bother you..

I've lived in good sized cities and very small towns. I am extremely protective of my kids. I have a 5 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. I take them to and from school, they haven't been to anyones houses yet (and have never asked to go to anyone's house). Hell even in a store, my son is in the seat of the shopping cart and my daughter usually gets into the basket (unless we have a lot of shopping to do. Then I have her hold onto the cart). I've been called a helicopter mom before, but I don't care.

Kim Perow She was the same age as my daughter is right now. I just sent her off to school and gave her an extra long hug and told her how much I love her and to be safe. I always kiss and hug her and tell her I love her before school but after watching this I almost didn't want her to leave but that's irrational. I don't and won't ever let her walk further than around the block in our quiet suburban neighborhood; and she has to be home as soon as the streetlights come on which is just as dusk begins and there is still plenty of light. I'm not going to blame her mother because it isn't her fault. But stories like this reminds us of what could happen to our children and to never assume that they are old enough or they "are fine" to go somewhere alone. That's just not true anymore, our children are always being hunted and it's terrifying.

time & place, Zahara....when this happened...and in that town, it was common. I wandered a large area as a child...partially residential, partially wild. it was great time and place to be a kid. if me and my friends got too crazy, any number of moms or dads would show up and kick us in the butt. or, anyone got hurt, no one cared who took us to the doctor...someone would. my dad took a friend of mine to the ER one time...where his mom was a nurse. we kidded him that they only patched him up for the execution....(wasn't like my dad wasn't chewing us out the whole way to the hospital, anyway....) that was in the 70s...in a very quiet corner of the US....now, I'm the over-protective parent (according to my kids) who I'm damn well going to make sure survive their childhoods. (God willing!) I live in one of the safest parts of the country now, and I won't let my kids wander that much. sad how much our country has changed, just in my lifetime.

Day before she tells her mother that she has a feeling something bad is going to happen. They also state that she said that she felt like someone was following them. Yet, the mother let's her walk 8 blocks to her friends house at 8pm. Poor parenting right there in my opinion. No child at the age of 10 should be walking anywhere in any town at that time, no matter how "safe" it is. Just because the town is safe, doesn't mean everyone in the town is.

I agree, the mom should off been protective of her daughter when her child was afraid. It's a mistake she will have to live for her rest of her life. Serves a lesson to future parents. She was found dead this year on a secluded woods area., by the way :(

Every parent is different. I lived in Florida for years before moving to New York and kids would be playing outside at 8 even 9 walking home hanging at the park. Some parents feel they can't seclude there kids because they might get kidnapped I wouldn't say she's irresponsible I would say she just never thought that could happen to her or her daughter.

The white pickup truck pulling thru the gas station looks like it had 2 dog crates in the back, one large and one smaller, like a hunter would have his hunting dogs in. "In a remote area, Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott said Thursday at a news conference that the remains were found by hunters last September." Ironic that animal murderers out looking to find and kill animal victims happen to find the body in a remote area that only hunters would go, and the white pickup truck had dog crates like a hunter would have for hunting dogs in it. "but Tim Hartman is not a suspect" camera shows his store and business sign, his name is blurbed out multiple times with "but he is not a suspect" and "we wondered if he would talk to us" followed by showing his shop sign and blurbing out his name again with a "but he is not a suspect" The WHY keep saying his NAME???Hartman answers the door and then closes it, reporter keeps knocking and then "lets go around" and starts stalking the guy's house! but... he's not a suspect and clearly he didnt want to talk to the reporter. Since his shop still shows in Google street view I guess they had nothing on him.

This woman watched the movie Taken with a 10 year old little girl??? Seriously?? And then 2 weeks before she disappeared some guy walked into a public bathroom on her and her friend, 1 week before some guy was following her and the day before she told her mom that felt that something bad was going to happen, and this mom still let her walk 7 blocks with her LITTLE brother? Parents are supposed to protect their children. Maybe she should've got her fat ass off the couch for a minute and kept this little girl safe.

I'm sorry but your 10-year-old daughter has two scary instances of a man following her, then your daughter says she has a terrible feeling, but you go ahead and let your daughter walk alone at practically dark time? And pretty far away for a 10-year-old? What were you thinking? Parents need to take some accountability here
