Washington's 'crime has exploded' have the Democrats ruined the US capital?

When thinking of Washington DC, grand monuments and museums might come to mind, however, in recent years, America's capital has become more renowned for its growing homeless population and rising crime.
“Crime here has exploded, people do not feel safe,” Isaac Smith, an Emergency Medical Technician in DC, told The Telegraph for a documentary film about the capital.
“I have a bullet hole through my living room,” Mr Smith continued.
“I hear gunshots frequently and I live right next to an elementary school. There’s a bullet hole in one of the [school’s] windows.”
Violent crime in DC has risen by 10% since 2022, which includes a 15% increase in homicides.
Mr Smith blames the Democrats, who have dominated the city’s local politics for decades, for the rise in violence.
“At the end of the day, they don't believe that people have agency. They don't believe that people have free will. So people do not act, they are acted upon.”
Muriel Bowser, the Democratic mayor of the city, will be hosting a Public Safety Summit on Wednesday to engage with locals on how to tackle the increase in crime.

A major reason for the increase in crime in Washington DC is that it lacks the ethnic diversity as other cities. One of the reasons for the increase in crime in Washington DC is the large black population. And the number of people addicted to dangerous drugs is increasing day by day. If the government does not control this situation well, a big crisis will develop here.

Seems like we could at least offer basic facilities like showers, running water and toilets in urban areas for the homeless to use. And if nobody wants to stay in shelter and would rather take their chances on the streets, well, then it sounds like there's a problem with the shelter system more than there is with the homeless population. It's ludicrous to say that mostly all homeless people have mental health issues or are drug addicts. The facts do not support this claim. Only in the US do people become homeless due to medical bills.

I lived in McLean, Fairfax County, Virginia, just outside Washington DC in the late eighties and early nineties and as far as far as I recall there is no difference between then and now. DC was called the murder capital then because more murders took place there than any other city in the US. At the time, Reagan was president and he was succeeded by Bush Senior both republicans. So I don't know what the issue is. May be it's the reporter's first time in DC. DC has always been a crime ridden place since I can remember. FACT: DC has emptied its prisons and cried has increased by 230%,. also President edo not control crime, nor do states -- cites and counties decide policing levels and 90%of prosecution policy. Violent crime is down or flat in 2,500 of the 3,000 US counties, but handful of Dem run cesspool cities like DC are seeing huge increases due to defund police and emptying of prison's.

Definitely isn’t. Dc small asf and only 68 square miles and already at 270 homicides. The year isn’t even over with. We have more homicides than Detroit right now and we’re half the size of Detroit. U obviously never been to Dc before and if u did u most likely only been to the tourist parts and white neighborhoods. SE Dc is extremely dangerous and 90% hood. 70% of the crime happens there and SE only has a 100,000 population. NE have some areas that’s dangerous as well. Uptown is mostly gentrified. Then u have upper NW where it’s safe

Don’t worry Washington DC, it is a pandemic across the country, it is a social problem without a solution, it doesn’t matter republican or democrat on power at any level, it is impossible to solve that massive social problem that grew like a monster. It is our ugly truth 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

But the worst cities and states are controlled by the liberal Democrats...Look at Chicago as a city or California, Washington state... No matter where the Democrats are in control the city or state is hell on earth. And the people would still vote for the Democrats. So bizarre.

USA needs Universal healthcare, rent control, many more social programs, decent mixed occupancy social housing with gardens and well paid union jobs that give people financial stability.not forgetting gun control. How bad has this got to get after more automation this is going to get a lot worse.Universal income is the only way tax the 1%.
