The Washington Huskies put up 532 total yards of offense against the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl and now will face an even tougher defensive test in the national championship. The Michigan Wolverines have arguably the best defense in the country, but behind Kalen DeBoer, Michael Penix Jr., Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, Ja'Lynn Polk, Dillon Johnson, and the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line, the Huskies will give them their toughest test yet in the national championship. Join Locked On Huskies host Roman Tomashoff and Locked On Pac-12 host Spencer McLaughlin as they discuss not only what will be the toughest test for Michigan, but what will be the biggest challenge for the Huskies too.

Georgia fan here chiming in Michigan has not given up more than 26 points all season with that being said Michigans back end is elite this game is going to come down to in the trenches if Michigan runs the ball well And limits Washington's possessions, Michigan is gonna win the game, They are 3× more physical than Texas I hope Washington wins. McCarthy was hurt in the 2 nd series at penn state . He was 7/8 passing when he bruised his knee

It’s easy to watch videos that align with your own demographic. It’s another when extremes of hyperbole is being spouted. The guy says McCarthy is mid at best which makes it obvious he doesn’t watch the games, but looks at game stats. Facts: JJ is 26-1 as a starter for Michigan. He completes 73% of his passes. Michigans passing rate ranks 117th compared to UW’s 10th. JJ was injured in the PSU game, and UM left guard was getting beat by Chop consistently, so they improvised by running the ball. UM ranks #1 in total defense while UW is 94th. That’s Michigan’s biggest advantage. Washington’s biggest advantage is the O line and the capability of scoring quickly with their amazing receivers. Whatever line is able to impose their will more successfully will have a huge outcome of the game.

You obviously didn’t watch JJ in the OSU game throw a dart past a LB’s ear. 99% of college QB’s don’t make that throw. Michigan put in the Raven’s defense back in 2021 to stop OSU. Three top receivers Njigba, Wilson, Olave along with CJ Stroud. Michigan limits possessions which you guys fail to mention which puts you at a disadvantage if you have to earn your way down the field.

Michigan has never needed to use McCarthy as anything more than a game manager. McCarthy has the talent and skill to do it all but when you have a great defense and Oline and an all American RB with another great RB right behind him, you get the lead and choke the clock. Simple but effective, Michigan has a great defensive line and defensive backfield. Coverage created pressure too that’s why there are coverage sacks. Nobody wants to talk about Washington’s defense either, if Washington won they’d be the worst statistical defense to win the championship since the beginning of the FBS. Washington’s offense is probably one of the best but the odds are really stacked against Washington when it comes to a team as a whole.

Should be fascinating to see the best defense in college football go against one of, if not the best offense and passing attack in college football (only challenger would be LSU’s offense). Guaranteed, UW has not seen as complete of a team or defense as UM. Michigan has not seen a passing attack like the Huskies. Both teams have that “destined” feel to them, just figuring out how to win by making big plays when needed all season long. As usual, it’ll all be about who wins at the line of scrimmage.
@dodgedforgottenn
@dodgedforgottenn 6 ай бұрын
Ridiculous take on McCarthy. Penix is clearly a better QB right now so advantage UW on passing offense, no doubt (top passing offense in CFB and top 3 WR group), but McCarthy merely average… ludicrous. An average CFB QB would be someone like Joe Milton or Tyler Van Dyke. Husky fans better hope the UW defense doesn’t doubt McCarthy like McLaughlin does.
@BeWise4Life

Look at the scheme and the personnel UW used vs Texas. They essentially took away the pass almost the whole game and banked on Texas making mistakes in the run game. It turned into 5 punts and 2 fumbles. They also seemed content to let Texas help them shorten the game. I think the gameplan will be different vs Mich. I think they come out with more of a scheme like they used vs the Ducks in the Champ game. Bigger safeties with faster LB's, all playing closer to the line of scrimmage and playing downhill. We may see Esteen as a single high free safety.

Spencer, do you actually get paid to do this or is this purely voluntary? I ask because you spout a lot of half thought-out opinions that border on mentally lazy fandom. For example, around the 13 min. mark you’re saying that Michigan running the ball against a top 10 team and only throwing once is a sign of weakness, while the rest of the nation would say that’s smart. Michigan ran the clock down, wore that defense down, and showed absolutely nothing to future opponents. Go listen to the players from the Ohio and Bama games and they’ll say they saw things they never saw on tape because Michigan gave up nothing by running the ball so much, which by the way is just as fun to watch as it is to watch Penix throw dimes. That kid is the real deal and he’ll be playing in Super Bowls very soon. The big question for me in this upcoming game is really around line play and who wins. I heard your opinion, but Michigan rotates 9 guys on their D-line so they’re fresh throughout. I just don’t know if Washington’s O-line will be able to give Penix the clean pocket he needs, or if it’ll be a lot of 3 step drops and quick throws to his 1st or 2nd read. At this point, I’m not expecting him to have enough time to get to his 3rd unless it’s on the run.

2:20 McCarthy doesn't make accurate passes, and throws only to guys who are wide open? In the 2023 OSU game McCarthy threaded a TD pass to Roman Wilson between two defenders. And in the Rose Bowl he one-handed a backward pass from Edwards and threw to Wilson while falling back with an Alabama guy in his face.

I can't believe that that play by JJ against Alabama doesn't get talked about more. Incredible play. Of je doesn't make that catch from the running back so much bad could have happened. To make the throw on top of it and complete the pass, legendary!

Michigans defense was built to stop this type of offense . Washington will move the ball. Can Washington score touchdowns consistently in the red zone is the question.

@4:03 Wow, this is an all time bad take. Dominant Lines, especially ones with 3 DTs who will be Top 50 picks (two of which maybe top 10-15 picks) always travel. Doesn't matter the play style, dominant line play at the highest levels will win you games. @4:40 And then to follow it up by saying Washington's biggest advantage was their O Line vs Michigan's D Line!!! That is non the Mount Rushmore of terrible takes.

Klatt was showing a highlight of Michigan intercepting the ball on a route to MHJ and his break on his route was SO BLATANTLY OBVIOUS. Meanwhile the UW receivers (every single one of them) are outstanding at disguising their breaks. I believe they had someone come in and train the receivers specifically on how to do this. Their footwork was highlighted by a route trainer earlier this year that I think was the company that trained UW.

Noo you picked Wash over Texas? Would have never guessed that! Penix (23) is 3yrs older than McCarthy (21). Both these dorks talking didn’t even know who Penix was 3 yrs ago. McCarthy stays he’ll be a top 10 pick next year. The more these dummies talk the more they expose themselves of knowing nothing about football

Michigan have a really strong chance imo. I do believe that defence is really damn good and they can run the ball effectively.. But it just feels like its our year, everything up against us we have overcome. I respect the hell out of Michigan, its gonna be a great game. Go Dawgs.

@@dstnatnunknwn1 Michigan is a great team so I don't want to sound like I'm overlooking them. I respect their game. But I feel like this will be the best offense they've ever seen. There were a lot of great players for Ohio State. And those games were close. But I just think Washington has a far better coaching staff and a better understanding of how to win big games at big time. DeBoer is undefeated in Washington in big time games. This team knows how to show up and raise their level of play above what the other team can. For the most part that's been the same with Michigan with TCU being the big game they lost. They will have a lot of confidence coming off the Alabama game. Washington recognizes that. It'll come down to the game planning on both sides. I think it'll be a fabulous National Championship game. Of course I'm going to pick my Dawgs to win it all. But I really do not feel like there is a comparison for either team really than playing each other. All respect for Michigan and the season they've had. But we are going to obviously look at things from a different lense and pick the outcome of the game differently. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch. GO DAWGS!!!! #PurpleReign ☔️ 💜💛💜💛💜

I think we all like Spence. I just think that him growing up with Oregon being in its greatest stretch, and Washington in its worst, has inflated Oregon fans’ view of their national prominence. Talking about Oregon in the same breath as the upper echelon, and sometimes acting like UW is lower, especially since 2016, is irritating. Anyone older than 35 knows that college football didn’t just start in 2005. That said, Spencer is him. He’s the Emperor of College Football

@@Parallax982 I don’t disagree. I’m just responding to his comment about Washington fans only tolerating him. I don’t think that’s true. It did take him a while to understand how good UW was though, and that’s the Duck in him- and his childhood being different than older ( and Duckfans) Dawgfans. Those who grew up with UW as the dominant team, where we’re just wanting the return to prominence. No disrespect, he’s my fav YT personality.

I was worried about Michigan's defense, but then I looked a little closer: the best offense Michigan faced all season was ranked #47. Michigan had lots of cupcakes like Bowling Green on its schedule. Maybe it does have a "great" defense, but there's no real proof of this given the lame-ass offenses Michigan played against. Sorry: Ohio St finished the year 47th in offense, and Alabama finished 56th.
