Washington Trooper Wastes No Time Arresting 137 MPH Driver

Like to drive fast? Might not want to do it in Washington. Or at least not in front of this trooper.
In other news, diabetes does not make people drive 137 miles per hour. Good story, though.
The first couple of minutes of footage show the trooper on a more normal speeding traffic stop. Less than two minutes after that stop ends, the 137 MPH speeder flies by in the far left lane. If you want to start with the second car, skip to 2:18.

In Germany there are still stretches on the Autobahn where there's no speed limit. Once I was cruising with my Honda Civic @ 195 km/h (the max she could do) when I've seen this guy approaching _fast_ from behind. So I skipped to the right lane & he blew past like I was standing. Must have been doing 250 km/h (most big engined cars are limited to that speed).

Andras Kovacs, I frequently traveled 250~280kph in Germany. I can not tell you how many times I had an Audi or Porche blow by me at those speeds. I once remember having two Ford Mustangs blow by me so fast while traveling at 285 that they rocked my car...they were racing. My guess is they were driving well over 330kph.

Troy there is no state where you can drive 137 and not get arrested. This is just fantasy. Maybe the cop lies on the ticket if he’s really really cool and lowers the speed enough to warrant only a ticket but if they write you up for 137 you are going to jail my man.

Tell me about it. Us commoners aren't so lucky sometimes. I was riding with my dad once, in Virginia (live in NY), and a cop baited him into speeding while in an unmarked car (went 5 mph under the limit and kept speeding up as my dad went to pass him, my dad gave up once then he slowed down again, and then my dad got around him next time) Wrote the ticket out for 82 in a 65. My dad could have challenged it but didn't want to drive all the way there again just to go to court. I probably would now if the same thing happened to me (I run a dashcam in my car currently, Viofo A129 Duo), with the footage just to show to the judge.

But even if he was having a diabetic crisis, that is still no reason why he should have been driving. In fact, if he was suffering from the effects of his diabetes, his friend in the passenger seat ought have been the one driving. Also, if he was suffering from Type 1 (ergo insulin-dependent) diabetes, normally the ones I know either don't drink at all if they are driving, or they have only one, or two, followed by the appropriate dose of insulin. Irrespective of the circumstances, diabetic, or not, given his slurred speach patterns, he should not have been driving at all that night ...

I didn't watch the whole video, but I have seen a real low blood sugar become a high blood sugar, because the body will sometimes see the low blood sugar, and dump all of its gucogon stores, which will Jack it up. Once the body dumps the glucogon stores, the blood sugar will go up very quickly, and the diabetic will then feel like shit, but be more coherent. The fact that he was sweaty in the back seat of the car is a sign of a low blood sugar. Not saying this happened, but this very easily could have been what happened.

Most people don't know that "normal" speeding is an infraction, but (in Washington) +20 is a major violation and actually becomes a criminal matter rather than a civil infraction. It's not a felony, but the traffic stop could be treated as one. There's a reason that if a cop catches you +20 (varies by state), they'll often read you the riot act and scare you before cutting you a break and citing you for less.

He was completely polite and respectful to ems and the tow driver. Yes sir etc. Why should he be polite to a dude who could have killed someone? You ever seen little children picked out of a car in multiple pieces and put into a body bag? When I did EMT clinicals a dude doing 100+ knocked a family of 4 off the road, killed them all. 2 children under the age of 7. The children's brains were all over the back seat. It was the most horrific thing I've ever seen in my life. So can't say I blame him for not babying him. There nothing in the books that says you have to be polite.

Obviously an experienced officer as he is concerned about the driver having a diabetic attack. When suffering from a diabetic attack, you can actually appear both drunk and smell of alcohol. And since a diabetic attack can be life threatening, the officer acted very professional. That said, the driver may still be drunk, which makes it even more dangerous having a diabetic attack.
