@@Kniesoor European wasps have the ability to give you a 1 in 10 chance of instant wasp allergy if you're stung more than twice. Also they're an invasive pest down here in Australia that take away resources from our native wasps like the Australian Hornet (technically a type of potter wasp)

Fun fact: Most bees actually don't die when they sting something. It really only happens to honey bees specifically, and even then only when they sting mammals on account of our thicker skin.
@darcydreaming69314 ай бұрын
Even then they can sometimes "apologise" by carefully wriggling the stinger back out of us
@kyze82844 ай бұрын
Fun fact! It's not actually the thickness, it's the elasticity. Think about this, are you more likely to break a toothpick on a taut piece of construction paper or a stretchy plastic bag? It did amuse me to find out that if they realize they're stuck, they actually will circle their stinger to try to get it free instead of yanking out their stinger and insides so they do know their weakness The difference between many bee stingers and almost all wasp stingers though is shape. Wasps are narrower and smooth where a bee's is thicker and actually has barbs meant to tear open the carapaces of attacking insects on their hives and is a huge detriment when dealing with any animal with an endoskeleton (like mammals) but they are smart enough to know to circle instead of just YANKING when it's a single bee and not an angry swarm Bees also know how to do math, ZeFrank does a lovely (and funny) documentation on that with the aid of science hippies

Fun fact about bee stings in their relatives. With most other animals bees keep their stinger so they just sting multiple times and live to tell about it like normal. Human skin is really weird, particularly because of what our genetics had to do with it to make sure that we could sweat everywhere and that sort of weird structure that the bees never evolved to be able to deal with is why there's stingers get stuck in our skin.

When I was 4 I slipped on a hollow log at my grandparents. Unbeknownst to me there was a wasp/hornet/yellow jacket (whatever) nest inside the log. My older sister ran at mach speed back indoors. I was being attacked by a swarm full of spite, fury, and hatred, and I managed to zombie stumble halfway across the yard before screaming for my parents. Did my sister bother to tell my parents that I was being stung and needed help once she was safe? Nope. My parents came out on the screen porch to tell me to run...I couldn't due to the pain. My fight/flight/freeze/fawn response chose freeze like the useless idiot that it is, and my dad had to run out to swat and crush them and haul me into the screen porch to get the rest. Did one of my parents drive five minutes down the road to the drugstore to get Benadryl or Calamine lotion? Or at least get me a friggin ice bag/bag of frozen peas or even just a cool compress or rinse me at the sink? How about one of the Tylenol Mom always kept in a pill pouch in her purse? It was all the way out in the car 50 ft away! Anything? Didtheydo*anything?*...well any of that would take effort and caring. I was told that the drugstore was too far away to drive as we rarely got to see my grandparents as we lived halfway across the country, so it was a waste of valuable visiting time. Stop crying and suck it up! You're fine! Go sit on the couch in the living room. My grandparents smoked like chimneys and I soon got sleepy and went to the bedroom for a nap to wake up an hour or two later with an awful headache and flushed face. Tylenol?? Did I get that Tylenol finally? Pssshhhh...but it was time to leave. Because I was so sensitive! Did we stop by the drugstore after leaving? It was a whole five minutes in the opposite direction! So what do you think? 🙄😤 Ah family...can't live with 'em, can't hide the bodies without seeming suspicious. Also, important tip for dealing with wasps/hornets: Do NOT. EVER. Kill or crush one in the vicinity of others. The smell it gives off is a rallying cry, and someone WILL PAY for their fallen soldier.
