Wasteland 3 - E3 Trailer Analysis

Goodness, it's been quite some time since we took our last look at Wasteland 3, hasn't it? With over two years worth of video clips, promotional images, and other assorted teasers - we've got quite a bit of catching up to do!
Where better to start than the recent 74-second trailer that InXile just showed off at E3 2019? It might be less than two minutes long, but it still gives us a LOT to talk about!
That said, this video WILL contain some modest spoilers related to the enemies and areas planned for Wasteland 3. If you're trying to avoid anything related to the game's planned storyline or scripted encounters, then you might want to skip this one.
I did back the crowdfunding campaign on Fig, but I'm not otherwise affiliated with InXile or Wasteland 3 in any way. I just love turn-based tactical role-playing games, especially ones set in bleak, post-apocalyptic landscapes.

The team worked very hard to get that put together for E3, and as you highlighted, a lot of thought went into what we showed. We can't confirm or deny how close your speculation is, but the good news is you'll have a chance to find out sooner rather than later as we continue to share more about the game and you get a chance to dive into the Alpha and Early Access versions. Their also remastering the original Wasteland and its called the Wasteland 30th Anniversary Edition. Theirs a bundle they will offer for 44.00 but it looks more like a remake. I hadn't seen any new info till tonight, 2 or 3 days ago Brian Fargo tweeted a comparison shot of Wasteland 1 original in the Topeka Camp and the new remaster at the same place, looks like they are bringing the game into the engine for Wasteland 2 or a bit below that as far as graphics, hard to say since it's still early and you can see if you look for yourself. Their also bringing it to Xbox One. I can't wait to see it, I've played the original and could still play it now but it would be something to see that game with 3d crpg isometric view.

Hey I gotta ask are you going to be doing any more work on fallout van burren or have you managed to go through all that info already, as that was my primary interest here, as that is what this game is reminding me the most of period, and honestly if you have run out of info for that, I hope this game comes out soon and replaces it on the channel lol

I appreciate developers keeping the turn-based tactical role-playing genre alive when it's increasingly being driven out of the gaming market. I think it's more because the gamers today are viewing it as boring or uninteresting which means publishers often don't give new IP's the green light to develop games of this type. Seems like there is a general consensus or rather a bias against turn-based systems in comparison to real time ones in games and it's sad to see a lack of games of this type. While the subject matter here doesn't entice me that much (I'm more into the fantasy settings) so this realistic wasteland/fallout setting really isn't my thing I am glad to see it though because it means there's a chance more games of this type will be made going forward. There has been somewhat of a resurgence of tactical-isometric RPGs similar to old-school titles I did like including Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre series recently. And we've seen a few good titles sparingly over the last few decades but surely not enough. I feel like there are only a few good series left keeping it alive such as Fire Emblem series. Similar games such as XCOM and Larian's Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2 have helped though. Another recent one announced was Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics which I will be getting alongside the new Fire Emblem. Show your support if you like these kind of games and hopefully developers will continue to strive to make them for us fans.

There’s a Mod for a Game called “Hearts of Iron 4” that makes it Fallout. The Devs Of the mod used many Characters from Wasteland 2 for some characters. They kept the Canonical Fallout Canon, but it’s funny to see the characters in 3D

the... yaks... are more likely buffalo... just saying... even if they have those wide horns its also worth noting that buffalo, and many large plains herbivores will stampede fire, to put it out. so its likely a hint that fires will attract them.

My first thought was buffalo, but I ended up leaning towards yaks because of the horns. Especially after I saw a few articles about yak farming in Colorado. That said, it could still be buffalo with unusually large horns. Honestly, aside from the horns and hair length, buffalo and yaks actually look remarkably similar!

Wondering if you have plans to finish the Van Buren design docs series. It’s excellently done and I’d really like to hear the ending with your brilliant voice work. You can really tell the story with an entertaining flourish that keeps me engaged. Wouldn’t be the same just reading the design documents

Good catch on the Fountain of Dreams Easter egg maybe. Never played it but remember it on abandonware sites back in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Thank god they did get to make the official sequel. Between Oregon Trail, Wasteland 1 and Shadow President, I fell for pc games in the mid 90s while in school.

Great video! It's so nice to see somebody cover this game which such good knowledge of the lore and provide an update on Wasteland 3. Speaking about updates and Wasteland: Is InXile still sending out e-mails to their backers to inform them about updates? I for some reason stopped receiving these for a year or two. Pretty strange.

Wasteland 2 was a huge disappointment. The pre-release demos looked reasonably polished and "sandboxy", but the actual game was buggy, incredibly slow, had a dreadful UI/UX (it actually paused loading if you alt+tabbed to a different window, so it effectively _forced_ you to stare at loading screens!), and the story was full of plot holes, nonsensical quests and false "choices". I know half the development team has changed, but it's from the same company, so I don't think I'll bother with this one.

It definitely had content-thinned moments, for sure. Enjoyed AG centre, after that was boring. Enjoyed he monks, but after that was boring, too. It's too bad, really, there's some real cool things in there.

Yup, game had a lot of promise but really didn't do anything very well. I wasn't a fan of it graphically, the map layouts left a lot to be desired as did the movement/combat system, but ultimately it was the lack of balancing that killed it for me. Every other gun was inferior to the assault rifle and armor often did more to hurt your character than help them. Additionally the skills were a mess...did we really need 3 different persuasion types for speech? The opening cinematic video was really, really bad and things didn't improve much from there.

I wasted enough time on the game, I'm not going to list the (dozens) of plot holes and false choices in a KZbin post. Try visiting the game's forum (threads about the "trapped miners" quest are a good place to start). And obviously by "slow" I mean the game's _performance,_ not the time during which the game is paused, duh! And no, games don't usually force you to stare at 1-minute loading screens; while a game is loading you can alt+tab to a different window and do something else. If you do that in Wasteland 2, the game _pauses loading,_ and doesn't resume until you alt+tab back to it.
