two months ago I went to the ring, just to relax. When I walked by Apex, the E46 was parked outside and I had to see it IRL. It's beautiful. George was in the garage came out, and took some time explaining what had been done to the car and what the plan is moving forward. That was so cool in a relaxed atmosphere considering all the "stress" that used to be around the garage when you stopped by just a year ago. Really appreciated he took the time to chat and show me the car.

Track closing in 2 minutes, Kathi speaking with the marshal, to get one more guy out. It was always one more. It took one yellow, or track closure to mess up everything. Don't put me wrong I liked all the services. I always wanted to have a chat with Robert, Misha, Dyana, George, Tim or Ice Cold... But it felt like im in a queue all the time. @@RobertMitchellMaybe an idea on that topic; You know how TF feels when being in a really fast car and also slower cars. Maybe explain how to behave on overtakes on TF, when to slow down to let someone pass or when to drive in your own speed and let a faster car pass on the next straight. I drive an e87 130i with suspension, brake, seats etc. but of course being a lot slower than e.g. 911 and m3 drivers. Sometimes I get the feeling that I am a bit too reserved and slowing down, staying on the right side too much and it would have been better to just have driven my pace through the section and let them overtake on an straight section a but later. Also because I slowed down the next person will be behind me to get past sooner. Maybe you could give some recommendations on that, not a lot of infos on track behavior that is from a reputable source ;)

In depth aero while keeping a clean profile and in depth suspension talk would be very appreciated. The later is what most ppl really do wrong, slam the car, reduce shock travel, compromise suspension arms angles, incorrect spring rates etc etc. For the E46 is think a lot of gain can be had with underbody work, the font bumper can extend a flat surface to the wheel wells with difusors leading to it. Here is where vented fenders from Mkrennsport or Karbonius can really work. For the rear a sealed diffusor that incorporates the 4 pipes would be nice, from the diff back. Varis is the only outfit that has a 2 piece difusor like this and is maybe worth looking into. Love the videos. Cant wait for the rest Robert, thank you.

As always, really like your approach! A lot of people get lost to more and mire bigger and flashy things to look better in front of others, you build your stuff the way you personally like. I also believe that being the fastest on the ring is not that entertaining in the long run but having a car that feels alive is worth way more in the end. Thats how the e46 will end up I think. As you said, not build for the very best possible lap time but to be a blast to drive. I like to drive my e87 130i with a couple of mods that make it drive and feel nice. I am not the fastest on the ring by far but I have a blast with the manual trans, NA R6 and rwd 👌

16:00 in those pic you really have the cheapest and most generic non fitting plates you can get there is also the OEM BMW-Plate for centerd install of the radio that reall nicely connects to all the interieur lines and fits to the trim aswell that could stand in for a base to addon the desired gages also a possibility is to take an old OEM Radio - scan that - remove the buttons and you got an ideal surface to mold in you gages - oruse the frame and front plate of that radio to mify it for the gages - then you have the added bonus of good fixation of them edit: I also suspect that the intereur at 16:00 loos like this because the mounting bracket that fits the plate and the AC-Controll was removed - because the ac-control looks linke not being fitted propperly - it looks like it is 5mm to high, also the trim is not seated fully
@RobertMitchell6 ай бұрын
Of course those plates are crap that are in the car. We are taking all of that which is in the car and binning it. We will then be 3d modeling a plate that fits where the old radio and hvac go. We will then cover it in alcantara. The new plate will angle the guages and the drenth display at the driver.
@odie08156 ай бұрын
@@RobertMitchell will you keep the AC in it's position or are you planing to put it at the placement where it is when the 16:9 Navigation is inside the car? if it will be kept below the radio - maybe a good starting point for the new bezel for the drenth display could be the OEM plate from the M3 CSL ( Part Nr. 65 10 7 896 770) that would also keep the plate and the ac controlls seperate what could help by avoiding fixation problems (the ca controlls clip in, the plate is bolted on) and you would not need burden yourself with all the buttonmounts for the ac-controll will the dash be trimmed in alcantara after fitment with the cage and stuff is finished? if so - maybe trimming those plates in alcantara could become a bit weird when there is a whole wall of alcantara streching side to side just my unwanted opinion on the matter - will look forward to when you will present your design idea

Curious on the suspension choice. For me the definition of a RingTool would be - enjoy the drive to Adenau/eiffel, do some TF, go back the same day. And take the car out on other weekends on twisty roads. Does it really need a motorsport line damper (too harsh, not enjoyable?), or would RS be a better choice (too weak)?

Nice little catch up video! With the next one as someone who doesn’t know much about suspension I’d like to understand why say kw v’3 for example would be a better choice than something like bc racing, H&R equivalent’s! And would the type of car change what type of suspension you may need for the same purpose? Say George has a mini and Tom has a m3 would a different type of suspension suit something better for track use?

Would like to know how much the height of the front splitter above the tarmac affects the car’s stability at high speed sections. That is an issue I assume reduces the stability of my track car, that I get to much air under my front end. Also, what if you reduce the gap from front splitter to tarmac, how does it impact the effectiveness of a rear end diffuser? What about side splitters to keep the air under the car and not let it out sideways, but directing it to the rear end diffuser.. Would love to hear your thoughts on this Robert 🤓

Low mileage on older cars isn't always a good thing, I bought an Alfa 75 that had been stored (and maintained) for at least 5 years, but as I started driving it all the engine seals gave out, this was after replacing all suspension bushings because they were perished. And I should've known better, I had the same experience some years ago when I bought a car that had been sitting for a while...

Sooo looking forward to this build series ❤. Did you ever do a rebuild series on the GT2 RS MR after the accident?, if so I seem to have missed it?. And as for the PPF issue?, it’s a no brainer for such a build on the E36 that’s going to be used/but not abused on the track.

yeah, I really wanted to do more with the gt2 but the job became a bit of an unorganised mess from the workshop lol.... couldn't ever guess when they were going to work on it. never got calls when milestones were being hit and took a year longe than planned so it was kind of a hit and miss with filming

Ahh….thats ok…I imagine the rebuild was stressful enough without the added hassle of filming. Good to see it in the background though, 😊

I would like to ask JRZ: Managing roll rate. 1. How do you discern the difference in rebound and compression adjustments in regard to slowing roll rate? Adding rebound can keep the inside wheel from extending, keeping the car flat. Adding compression can add roll resistance on the outside corner. But how do you discern which adjustment is needed as a driver in regard to roll. 2. How do you balance valving with gas pressure (outside of cavitation) in regard to vehicle support? 3. How do you manage valving as a roll stiffness contributor along with spring and bars? Does JRZ target specific natural frequencies for each chassis that the valving range is based on? 3. What is the consensus on low vs high speed velocity crossover (how many in/sec?)

I am curious about info around the PPF stuff. I have a very tidy MX-5 (Near the Nürburgring) and I struggled to find a place to get it PPFed after it was re-sprayed... (Since then I hit the wall in Breitscheid and it needs some body work and other stuff) so I will get it PPFed after it get's body work done. Again... :D

Please talk about the ride height adjustment difference between where the whole shock moves vs traditional spring adjustment Please!

The thing about the cost of stuff like this is when you can see where the money went and why, like some stuff may be practically hand built, and the hours and craftmanship, experience, expertise that have gone into it, you can appreciate it. Just buying an expensive car off the shelf and filming it doesn't show any of that. Often the most interesting bits are in the details, even bits that aren't normally seen - like the underbody stuff on the GT2RS MR.

Is it possible there may be a collab with Vulkan Alpha for the E46 wing and aero? Would be great to see the old crew back together.

You gotta go to the last question :-). I agree with you but no wing on this one
