When you tear your meniscus, what’s happening on the inside of the knee? And how do you treat it?
Here, Dave Duffy, specialist knee surgeon with Yorkshire Knee Clinic gives a fascinating look inside the knee during a meniscus procedure.
𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗵: This video features footage from an operation.
You will see:
• The off-white cartilages on the tibia and femur, and the meniscus itself
• The cutting of a torn piece of the meniscus and the shaving of loose pieces of meniscus
You won’t see:
• Blood (because the meniscus doesn’t have its own blood supply)

So freaking easy to do right, took me almost a year to finally get the darn surgery done. If you ask me why: 1st: Appointment w/ your primary care doctor 2:Physical therapy for a month (spend tons of $$) 3: Primary care doctor for a specialist 4: appointment for MRI 5: Specialist again to talk about MRI if the need for surgery. 6: Specialist to do surgery 7: FINALLY!!! Surgery comes and the is the 💩 that they do. so easy right. Remember: appointment is what takes FOREVER!!!!🤬 Bull💩 right?

When I was a deep sea fisherman I snapped my medial meniscus , it was the most agonizing pain and the knee locked into place while half bent , 1500 km off land very inconvenient , had to be dropped off at nearest land and lost a lot of money on that trip . long story short , had an arthroscapy operation on the knee , which is key hole surgery with a camera on a tube in one hand and a surgical instrument held in the other hand while observing a small screen monitor set up in front of the surgeon . Was told by the surgeon later that the knee would deteriorate over time and would require more surgery when in my 50s .At 59 now and limping with pain .

Over the next year, the torn cartilage slipped out of place 7 times before it locked at a 90 degree angle for a full week, and had to get this same operation (however they repaired my meniscus, rather than shave it off), the pain was horrific whenever it was locked, worst pain I've ever felt. In young patients, this type of injury occurs due to a forceful action such as a deep squat. In older patients, less force is required to tear the meniscus, and symptoms may develop more gradually. In older adventurer patients, this type of injury is commonly due to taking an arrow to the knee.

I'm getting ready to have my third meniscus tear removed on my right knee. Surgery is in 5 days, been trying to get back to normal the past 3 years, and now I have a tear on my left knee as well. Stay strong guys it can be a journey. For me I'm thinking it was just due to having the wrong surgeon so make sure you do your research! I'm having knee problems as well now on my right knee, but focusing on just the tear for now.

This doctor is phenomenal! I wish I ran across him 30 years ago, lol. He may have been able to help with my knees that were ravaged by dozens upon dozens of internal bleeding episodes caused by Hemophilia. Now, today, the left is fused into place from a broken femur and body cast and the right still has somewhat good range of motion but is riddled with a massive amount of arthritis and scar tissue buildup from about 40 joint injuries through the years. He'd probably love to have a look at my joints!

@@hendryyyy1262 What caused my injury was my stupid x-husband kicked at my knee from the side. He had been in karate for a while but didn't listen when they told you not to do that unless you really wanted to hurt someone. So I can't tell you if the cartilage grew back but I can tell you that I have full function and no pain. It did take about 10 years to get there, but really it only got irritated back then. A little rest and ibuprofen and I was good to go. I can't recommend getting this procedure highly enough. I was able to continue karate through my 3rd degree black belt. So I was using it through that period. Of course everyone's experience could be different, this was just mine.

I received a double miniscus repair five and a half weeks ago. Not the same yet. One knee had half the miniscus removed, the other cleaned up. Unbelievable pain built up to needing the operation and difficulty walking, bending, anything honestly. Now, pain is much less. Built up to walking short distances. I can perform a variety of jobs at home with great care and rest. I followed the doctors instructions, do all I can at home. Now, back in physical therapy and I'm told I should have been resting much more than the efforts I've been putting out. Not ready to return to work yet. Swollen legs, that may continue for close to a year possibly. Have a variety of problems with my legs, knees and feet and hopefully all these will be worked out soon.
