RZR was the most important part in this series

Great video! Very helpful even after being posted 3 years ago. We're looking at getting a used 2021 RZR 170 for my kids who are 8 and 10 years old. We have 3.5 miles of trails on an 80-acre property in southern Ohio, and the trails have some pretty significant hills and valleys. They'll be staying on the trails only. Have you ever run into challenges where the lack of 4WD was an issue? Would reducing the front sprocket by one tooth to increase acceleration help address this concern? I'm new to riding too, and I don't have experience working on motors and such. Thanks for your insights!!

We never had an issue with the hills we drove on. I could see it being a problem on steeper hills with loose gravel if you stop on the hill. Polaris did have a big wheel kit at one time with a different sprocket and larger tires. That sprocket could help but I would try it stock first. There are many aftermarket products for it as well. We used it often and really liked it until the kids grew out of it. Thank you for the feedback.

@@flatlanderoffroad8189, thanks so much for the quick reply. It's good to know there's something to try if it doesn't work with the stock setup. We just had some timber taken out on our property and the guys did a really nice job leveling and dragging the trails on their way out. We don't have any loose rock. There's one spot in particular that I have some concern because of how steep it is, but I'll drive it first before putting a kid behind the wheel.

I was right!! Your video answered my questions of concern. I wanted to get a awareness of the Rzr 170 capabilities on trails Your video explained how theres very low ground clearance, so where you driving better be mostly flat grounds.

My 9yr old son currently has the Yamaha raptor 50 he's been riding since his 4th birthday.. I been looking for something like this or possibly the raptor 90.. My question is if you had it to do over again would you stay with the rzr 170 or would you have made a different choice? And how many more years do you hope to get out of this? Till the kids are 15 or 16?
@halffast18504 жыл бұрын
@SteveQ Thank bud. I appreciate you getting back to me. These atvs are too expensive to be buying every 4 to 5 years as they grow. Think I'm gonna pull the plug and go ahead and get my boy the rzr 170. It did look like you were having as much fun as he was. Thanks again
@flatlanderoffroad81894 жыл бұрын
That was actually somebody else that replied to you earlier but I feel the same way. We wanted them to have a roll cage instead of just a small 4wheeler. I expect to get another year or two out of it. But we bought ours used and after that initial depreciation they hold their value really well. To answer your question if I had to do it over again I would buy the same machine. Our boys really like it and it'll make the transition to a larger machine much easier.

Where did you get the mirror
@flatlanderoffroad81894 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure anymore. I originally bought it for our old gator. I had to shim it quite a bit to fit on the 170. I'll send a link for what I think is the same thing but you might want to look for one that mounts to a smaller roll cage. It does hold really well and has a nice wide angle though. www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Rear-View-Mirror-2004-2019-John-Deere-Gator-HPX-XUV-550-590-625-825-855/293537874315?fits=Make%3AJohn+Deere&hash=item445838818b:g:~RsAAOSwOYRb9OdL

Great video. Thinking about buying one. My Tundra has a 50" base and this is 48" wide. Do I need to buy a trailer as well or do you think it would doable (but uncomfortable) to transport in the back of my truck the few times it will need to be moved. It will likely stay at a ranch most of its life.
@flatlanderoffroad81893 жыл бұрын
I also own a Tundra. I never hauled it in the bed, always on a trailer so I wouldn't know for sure. I would bet it would fit between the wheel wells but you would need to leave the tailgate down. Take some careful measurements to know for sure. Thanks for the feedback and enjoy the ride.

Where did you get that speedometer?
@flatlanderoffroad81894 жыл бұрын
It's just a decal. Polaris used to put the speedometer decal on there instead of the RZR one they have more recently. But I did find options for a GPS speedometer that would fit right where that decal is. You just have to wire it to the battery. Here's a link to an example I found but there are several options on Amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B07DY3MBJL/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_QFWWEbED4C9DP

Well done review! I think I will be buying a used one of these for my granddaughters this summer. I am only 5'8" but I think I can fit in it enough times to train the oldest (10 yr old) so she and the 8 y.o. can ride around on my farm. I really like the throttle control also. Simple, foolproof. One question, your opinion... better for a Carb model or a newer FI model?
@flatlanderoffroad81894 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I try to avoid carburators when I can but this one worked well with only slight adjustments a couple times over the years. I never run gas with ethanol in my small engines and that keeps the carb clean. If I was to buy one now I would prefer a FI model. They aren't easy to find used though so I would buy either if I found one in good condition. The kids will have a blast and should get years of use out of it.

Can you tell me what the speed was with the speed limiter as slow as possible? Thanks
@flatlanderoffroad81893 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I never set it very low but I think the limiting bolt would back out so you could barely push the throttle at all. If the bolt wasn't long enough to do that you could change it out with a different one to limit it further.

There is a filter in the 2021 I think I saw it on a video
@flatlanderoffroad81893 жыл бұрын
There is an air filter but the oil filter is a screen held in by the drain plug. There is no traditional oil filter. Here's a link to a Polaris video that shows how to change the oil on a 170: rzr.polaris.com/en-us/self-help/article/KA-01698/
