Adam C hi just one question Why do the eggs stay on them
@GlassicGamer7 жыл бұрын
It's amazing its almost like they form off the egg rather than hatch from it. When they were bouncing around on the egg sack it reminded me of a South Park episode lol. I loved how they absorbed it over time and really started showing the personality at the end :)

Why were the eggs moving up and down? Was it like a water current flowing through the tube?
@adamc79187 жыл бұрын
+Rubix Cube yes the water flows through to keep the eggs moving which simulates the mother holding the eggs in her mouth. if they aren't moving they die

Adam C awesome! Its a good way to do it.... my fry mostly get eaten but i get a few survive every so often. Its probably better that way as my 1 and only tank would become overstocked quite quickly. What is the species your thinking of?? Do you find the hatch rate is pretty much 100% using this method? I have a couple of my own cichlid vids on my channel if your interested to see. Cheers mate and keep up the awesome vids
@adamc79187 жыл бұрын
+Sim W thanks sim I'll check you out. my next video like this should be on a few weeks and will be buccochromis rhoadesii yellow. I'd say the hatch rate is around 90 percent. there are usually always a few that didn't get fertilized and just don't grow at all

Adam C it's quit the epic battle isn't it, so what, a African Rift Valley cichlid may have 30 odd eggs, without them being stripped she is going to loose quit a few of those in the wild, not accounting for duds she will eat herself, then the rearing of the fry constantly under the watchful gaze of every predator in eye shot of her territory, then sub adulthood and independence. It's amazing any make it!. I refuse to buy wild caught these days, what with added pressure of human population, and the understanding of the utter miracle that takes place to get that fish too adulthood. I think it could one day be up to us aquarists to support these amazing animals in the wild and not the other way round. Sad thought isn't it!

as for being a fish breeder for a while some time ago i never woulda guessed that the egg was actually their insides after they grew a little more thats mindblowing. ive bred guppies for a while and a few other kinds of fish and my favorite beta fish, for they were the most difficult i have dealt with but ive never seen this before its new for me, nice going though for getting the whole batch hatched

Adam C, there's related videos here that show how to strip the cichlids of their eggs...so you HAVE to take eggs or they eat it or something?
@adamc79186 жыл бұрын
you don't have to take the eggs. I took the eggs becaise it was a first time mother and they usually lose the first few batches due to inexperience. but most people who try to breed fish strip them becaise then the female can get more eggs sooner
@ashleyespinoza74156 жыл бұрын
Adam C, I am amazed beyond belief... good stuff! 😰🤔 Reminds me off a bird I raised that had eggs, her inexperience made her unsuccessful with producing hatchlings until like the 5th or 4th batch.

This is cool. I have no idea why it interested me in the first place, but it's cool. Seems like the eggs must have nutrients in them for the babies, since they don't detach from the body and are eventually absorbed inside.
