Raghad yousuf Michael Jackson was nominated for 2 Grammys for off the wall and won one of them, but for a perfectionist like him it wasn’t enough at all, so he made sure that the people who told him it was luck and a one-time in life opportunity are proved wrong and well, he sure did! It’s all in his book. And we shouldn’t forget how the Grammys trashed him for his BAD album!!! And every other album after thriller

Prince was spitting this a long time ago and folks was more worried about him being bisexual or not than the message. Now how many decades later we got folks calling themselves rappers not for the love of it but for the money. So they throw money at poor young black males and have defined wtf rap is or should be. Then have these youngins so dumb down they're lost. They don't even respect who or what came before them. We sold rap for a few "shells" to buy bigger houses and more cars but left our future generations nothing.

Naaaahhhh Do your research. He was talented from the day he was born. You need to read his book Moonwalker. He specifically talks about this. He was completely upset about not being nominated. He was completely snubbed for Off the Wall. I mean they ignored him because they thought that he would just fizzle away as a solo artist of which Off the Wall was his first solo project. At the same time that Off the Wall was released the Industry was trying to throw disco out. People were literally protesting in the streets to bury this genre. The Jackson 5, The Jackson, they had already taken over the world with their talent since being little kids. So talent was nothing new at all. They wanted to put Michael and Off the Wall aside.

We know our fans are our true recognition at the end of the day, but its just that childhood dream you know. That thing that made us say "I want to earn that one day". The fact that discrimination and lack of care for the actual music/art as a whole and popularity are the reason deserving artists dont get their recognition is a disgrace to the American culture because the Grammys are a staple in Amercan Music. Most Rap music is forgettable and not even written by the artist performing it. These "Artists" don't deserve awards. This is why Igor got an award. Tyler is known to be talented. He produces his own shit and writes his own bars and is not afraid to experiment. Kendrick will win awards in the future for taking the same approach. Tyler the creator and Kendrick started as underground artists. They didnt sound like people at the time which is the same case today for the underground. If Diddy is gonna try to say that it needs more recognition and diversity when Rap and Hip Hop are the most mainstream genres right now than he must have a screw loose. Let’s be honest. I understand what these artists are saying. However, it upsets me because we do have our own platforms for these artists to get recognized. We have the bet awards, hip hop awards, soul train etc. thing that’s upsetting these big name artists rarely be there. A lot of time artists win and they have to have somebody accept the award on their behalf. And then our big name BLACK artists will go to the Grammys, and this other white washed awards and don’t get the love they would get amongst their own. Let’s be honest a lot of our entertainers fill they haven’t made it or sell out everything to get a Grammy. Instead of the highlight being recognized by their very own. Example: I’ve forgot if I’ve ever seen jay z or Beyoncè or drake or nicki Minaj and the BET awards. Now they always win the category but you never see them there and they’re never there to accept the award. But at these shows they’re on the red carpet and perform and everything. VMA’s, MTV, you see them at all these award shows. I’m just saying they need to be more entertaining to the people who looks like them. True enough we control things US BLACKS but these artists also control who they give they’re energy to. I’m just saying.

Really don't matter at the end of the day cs BET is not owned by US anymore if my research was right smh heard we sold that tv one too smh I got to check and see again cs it surprised me when I heard but if its true it don't make a difference at the END of the day

Until we, (urban music), start making real music again, *they will not respect us. All of this turn up music talking about drug use and explicit sex needs to be over with already. Stevie, Prince and Michael use to KILL it at the Grammys.. Why?.. because they made REAL music about REAL life.. Until we get back to that, I say.. Ssshhhhh!!!..... with all due respect to the homie Diddy. 🙏🏾

@Pillow Jones, Ahh... Although I dig Prince,MJ, & Stevie, you're contradicting yourself using 2 of your examples? Prince & MJ both died from drug use, and both having ties to explicit sex.One in his lyrics and the other on the front page every month. Great song writers though!

This is important. Colored artists deserve recognition for the impact they have had in the industry and the culture. That said, it's not about diversity. It should never be about diversity. Bob Marley deserved a Grammy, not to meet a diversity quota, but based on the merit and quality of his work. To say it is about diversity implies that these artists are being given something that they otherwise do not deserve.
