During complete totality, its safe to look at. But at no other time during the process.

You can take your glasses off during totality. It’s when the sun is still visible that you need to wear glasses. In the same way that you can look at the moon without glasses, but you’re not supposed to look at the sun.

@redbloodedamerican2346 you can take off the glasses when it's complete totality. The moon is completely covering the sun. Once the sun begins to peek out again, then you'll have to put the glasses back on.

Using eyeglasses or anti-radiation can be your protection from the Sun's radiation. At our young age before here in the Philippines, we use the negative film to see the Total Eclipse visible with the total formation, color & uniqueness. :-)

Philly here as well. For what I did see before the clouds took over, it was about 90-95% covered and while it got a bit darker, it was nothing like in the total eclipse

I’m here in Buffalo and we had Max totality too, and when it started to get dark really quickly it honestly tripped me out so much and made me dizzy! The other neighbors I was watching it with also remarked on this. Apparently it has something to do with the moons range from us during an eclipse?

The closer the moon is to the earth, the longer totality will be. If you are close to the edge of the shadow, and not toward the center, totality will also be shorter, sometimes just a few seconds from diamond ring to diamond ring. The best place to be is the area called the centerline, the widest part of the moon's shadow. (Jan Griffiths).

Kerrville, TX, had a diverse force of folks who spied the solar eclipse; Dallas, TX, had such force who spied the eclipse. They were jubilant for the totality! Sexual discrimination was existent with students in homogenous bottom garments because they went to the field upon the field trip.🌒

Never take your eclipse glasses off. The combination of the dark (your pupils dilate to compensate for less light) and the UV from the penumbra will mess you up!

I was watching on CNN and the lady was trying so hard to get Texans to keep their glasses on until totality. I just had to snicker as this one woman ripped off her glasses and then leaned over to take her husband's off. Well, have you not been paying attention to all of the natural disasters to date? If anything is any worse, I'll rescind my question; but if the continuance of natural disasters (EARTHQUAKES, floods, FIRES, etc.), is how it has been going so far, you may want to look into the science of climate change. Eclipses are not in themselves a 'predictor' of these things, as they've been going along and getting worse. But, if you're right and things suddenly get EXPONENTIALLY worse BECAUSE of THIS eclipse--truly, my love and best to you and to all of us! My only reason for responding is to hopefully make you feel better that an eclipse is not a bad 'omen'; however, sadly, I do believe we are on a collective path to our eventual demise, more related to our time on this planed (the earth has had many extinctions of species) and our contributions to it; which really makes me sad for all of us. Ultimately, I hope BOTH of our fears are incorrect and we can 'meet' again in 2044/2045 N. American eclipses intact! :)

Where I live the coverage was 97.7% but it didn't look like it. It got a little darker and the temperature dropped a few degrees, but it didn't look like the sun was being blocked. I knew it wouldn't be a black sun, but was hoping for a diamond ring at least.

I saw the one in, complete totality, in 2017. There is no way to explain the difference between 99.9% and 100%. It’s an awesome-inspiring, spiritual, and deeply felt experience. If you’re not in complete totality, it’s…blah.

I'm in Maine in the 95% ish totality area and It did not appear to have the moon pass by, there was a dimming of the sun but I didn't notice anything until I put on my glasses, then I could see where the sun was a sliver, take the dark glasses off and it looked like a full sun.....I guess my mind is completely gone.

Yeah if it's not 85% percent or greater.. You're not gonna notice a huge difference... Here in arizona it was like sixty five percent you didn't even notice a difference.. But I been in total eclipse is twice in my life it's over rated If you're not doing something special at the time like banging or whatever.. But I'm pretty sure there is a lot of people out there.
