I had an AD who would sell any Rolex they had in stock. No wait lists or preferred customers. They kept some higher end models like the Platona in the back and you could ask to see them. But you could always walk out of the store and pay retail. They were also open to negotiate price below retail. That's probably why they lost the Rolex AD status and now sell other brands.

Nico is absolutely correct in saying to invest in the least popular models. Much like the Rolex Daytona when it was released,....... Gibson guitar company came out with the solid body Les Paul in 1956. The golden era and top dog is the 1959 Les Paul. They couldn't give them away. Now it's the rarest, most coveted, and valuable size string electric guitar on earth. A "good" condition grade will command $450,000. A mint NOS,....if you can find one,.....will command millions. New in 59,.....they sold for $490.
