I've been driving in the US for about 60 years. I was in an accident caused by a Chinese student who proudly told the lawyers at deposition that he'd been driving for five whole years. He stated that there was no speed limit and he didn't understand what a stop sign meant. Clearly, because he ran it. I feel safer with Desi drivers on the road. They are wild, too. But they at least believe in karma, stop signs, and brakes.

I've worked with several Chinese over the years and, as a group, I figure they're the worst. One guy bought a new 4x4 and thought the cruise control was more of an automatic pilot. Back in the shop the first day. Another woman had no idea you're supposed to slow down in snow and ice. Straight off the road at the first bend in the road. Driving with them I noticed that they only pay attention to what's directly in front of them. Traffic or pedestrians off to the side may as well not exist. It's hard to avoid an accident when you don't even see it coming.

Yep. I'm an Asian-American man. Back when I was a teenager learning to drive, my Asian mom "taught" me to drive like nothing else matters except what's directly in front of me. Her bad "teaching" caused me to nearly crash so many times! Thank the lord I didn't crash before! Nowadays, I drive the safe and sane way, and defensively; forgetting everything my Asian parents "taught" me.

I've lived and worked in China for an extended period, and I can confirm what's being reported in this video. Chinese people have two speeds on their cars: zero and "pedal to the metal." One out of ten is texting while driving. They rarely look where they're going. They either don't know what road signs mean or don't care. They drive on sidewalks, and if they hit you, they will continue as if nothing happened. I've seen these things every single day.

I am a local Shanghainese. I pretty agree most Chinese drivers are crazy and reckless and know nothing about right of way. But in Shanghai, things have been improved over the last decade. Thanks to the strict law enforcement, most drivers will stop at the crosswalk and give way to pedestrians. Shanghai is a city studded with surveillance and traffic cameras. And some cameras will record the drivers if they don't give way to pedestrians. With a dashcam, drivers can also report misdemeanors like other drivers not using turn signal. So at least, if you are a tourist in Shanghai, you will feel safe walking in the street. But if you travel to other places in China, especially cities in the north, like Beijing, drivers are very uncultured and rude.

Case number 9. We can see that it was either not the first time OR the set the manoeuvre before recording. The bricks conveniently left on top of the canal wall betrays that. They were there to avoid the driver from backing too far.

@@captsorghumand the stereotype of bad Asian drivers?
@captsorghum
@captsorghum 2 ай бұрын
@@jakeg3126 That's a different thing. That stereotype would presumably exist in non-Asian countries, based on shared anecdotal experiences and not on statistics. Sure it takes time to learn to be a good driver, and also to learn the conventions of another country. And the driving conventions in China are certainly different. They probably have stereotypes about entitled Western drivers expecting people to let them merge, or causing accidents by "unpredictably" stopping for pedestrians.

I like the way that this video was presented with video clips which keeps more watchable and shows how bad things can be in China to the contrast rosy picture that they're trying to paint. I feel like a lot of the times it's very hard to find news that show these these less rosier sides of China. Would love love to see more videos with this formula though it probably will get restricted by KZbin so there is that...

I am also the son of a man who was in logistics, including as a member of the US Military for over thirty years. Because of that, I can somewhat relate to the stuff in this video, such as someone in a little car deciding to be dumb in the vicinity of large vehicles or the guy with the tractor doing things with it, it was not designed to do.
