Jamaica honored him. Jamaicans love him as well. You have short memory. People were just mad the other day cause he made some unfortunate and hurtful things which broadbrushed all Jamaicans. But Mr Powell has a statue built in his honour in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a sports legend. After the Olympics they all got the hero worship and material gifts they deserved. Good interview. Alysia handled her questions well.

@@nadinelowden545 I don't need your lecture. The man said his mind in his blog and I agree with him 200%. The man was not begging accolades he was simply asking not to be disrespected. For all Asafa and others did, they should never have to work or pay certain bills. Do you know how many countries would love to have 'hafasafa'
@winngriff Жыл бұрын
@@ItsAuntieKaren And let me add he didn't get anything, he and a few others set themselves up qithth their own earnings. Those unfortunate comments are true. You cannot deny that typical Jamaican thinks well off people who earn should not be compensated. They think only so called poor people must get anything. So I repeat, a prophet is not without honor....... If you don't fall in the category he is taking about relax

@@ItsAuntieKaren which all Jamaicans!! They said some ungrateful things about him and it rubs him the wrong way. He spoke his truth. Damn ungrateful wretches dem. Asafa gem of Jamaica for me. I used to watch you at UTECH but afraid to say hi. Many times I used to just stare at you while you train. Many times I watched you with a ready smile watching me watching you and your face saying she wants to say hi. I will hold that especially my gingerly shy wave and you waving back. I agree with him the training plays a HUGE role more than the food. Because in Jamaica the kids are here running from even as toddlers and competing with each other. Running is a huge thing in the schools, bigger than football. Every school has a sport day and this is the most exciting day at the schools, even for the community members as they will flock to the school to cheer on the kids and as I said even the toddlers will be a part of the sports day activities running. Plus the Jamaicans run on extreme conditions. They will run without shoes, in the hot sun, rain, terrible fields, etc. Even where Asafa used to train when he started breaking records, alot of the athletes were poor and the university wasn't spending money on the sport so they used to constantly be eating dumplings with little gravy for food. They get up and ran around Kgn early in the morning and again in the late evening. They had to use all kinds of things for the gym work out part like makeshift gym equipment for strength and endurance. So it doesn't surprise me these people are fast because of how they were raised and trained under extremely harsh conditions and would still run fast when they are going through it so when they are on the good tracks, they have no choice but to be fast unless they have an injury and a serious one too. Because even with injuries they still will run fast.

I really appreciate Asafa coming to Ghana, as a Ugandan iam not mad it's still Africa. That is his wife's homeland. This means a lot to our young generation, especially in short distance. I have followed his career for years, the man is a beast on that track. And I wish him more success, may the Buddhist gods continue to protect him and his family.
