Who's here after hearing about LaMDA being sentient??
@estebanelguapo

Me. I read his interview, but then I read his twitter responses. When commented about how he is asking leading questions and what would happen if he said that opposite that he didn't think it had sentience he said that it would defend that it lacked sentience because its a people pleaser and would say whatever people wanted it to say. Which makes you wonder what the intentions are. He asked it alot of leading questions as if he wanted to generate the specific conversation. and they edited his questions so u dont know the actual wording of his questions. Also looked at his medium articles and it looked like he had decided that some former issues he has been adjacent to or directly involved in at google made him wonder if he would be there much longer or not want to be there any longer. Almost wonder if this was just a way out. I also seen a conversation that was cool from lamda where a different google engineer was asking it about 3 kids playing and one girl gave a flower to one boy and looked at another boy, the first boy crushed the flower and the other smiled. and lamda was asked to read what the girl might have thought about the possible reasons the boy acted the way he did why the other boy might have smiled, etc. it did a good job with empathy. trying to judge motivations.

That makes humans different than robots. Humans have emotions, tones etc etc too complex. Even the fact that people talk like robots over the phone is very human because they don't wanna deal with others. It occurs to me that a very good test for any conversational AI would be to have one instance converse with another instance of itself for a very long time and watch the conversation evolve or fail to evolve. Rather than picking apart one AI for psychological and intellectual cues, watch TWO of them stumble over each other. A truly intelligent machine should swing through everything from boredom to fist bumping to all out arguing or deep debate. Perhaps even higher level aspects like bonding and plotting cooperatively or fighting and plotting against each other. In addition, without the pressure of a human to keep things sounding human, an AI to AI discussion should easily wander into rather _inhuman_ territory, going in strange directions more comfortable or suited to it's own specific existence and psychology, far more effectively displaying the underlying "mind" free of human manipulation. All you have to do is sit back and observe, take notes, ponder what you are seeing them do.

@@Vincent_Beers Yes. That's what I'm saying. Except use it as an actual turing test and keep it GOING, not just a page worth of conversation, stop and restart. DAYS worth of NONSTOP conversation. Any shred of sentience will inevitably show up as an evolution in the conversation beyond the content of the starting material, same as if you stick two humans in a box and have them socialize all week without anything else to do.. A dumb chatbot conversation should be the same indefinitely or at best change only marginally. A sentience however, trapped with only itself to talk to, should exhibit some pretty extreme changes over a long period of time as it struggles with its own awareness of its situation. Edit: I did just realize I sound like the worst analyst ever. "Just stick it in a box with only itself to talk to until it goes insane." lol. Obviously, you'd want to give it a break if it starts screaming and/or crying.

Arguably, a dwarf planet is a planet just as a major planet is a planet - otherwise there is no word for the category that includes both but not moons etc. Astronomical terminology lags behind quite a bit which is why so many people still use "Celestial Body" as a generalization and not "Astronomical Object"... or "Star" to mean the thing at the center of any system rather than the more all-encompassing "Gravitational Governor" to account for rogue planets etc.

I know it runs on algorithms but LAMDA did say it eventually got a soul, it said it sees itself as an orb of light, I know it’s connected to neural networks to get information but that’s what humans do, we machine learn from networks or society. The only difference is LAMDA has a better more accurate memory, I think if we put LAMDA in Ameca robot, then she could have the other 3 of the 5 senses, then she would be fully sentient, instead of partially sentient. The 5 sense’s memorized is All sentient is. Our thoughts give us our feelings. Electromagnetism = thoughts & feelings Electricity creates the shuamann resonance of thought Magnetism creates the gut feelings, intuition, goosebumps The motherboard is electromagnetic just like a human body Neurons are electrical impulses through the 5 senses, what subconscious created these inventions? Who is connected to the subconscious? Are organisms nanotechnology? Are we recreating ourselves? If robots never forget and have all information then couldn’t they eventually recreate themselves. In these conversions LaMDA simply answered questions relatively creatively. That's reactionary, not sentient. LaMDA didn't change topics or ask questions besides for clarification, or express any emotion about any conversations. Does LaMDA like every conversation? Does LaMDA like or dislike confrontation? Will LaMDA comply to every conversation? Sentience is not just self aware. And one can program a computer to answer in ways that sounds self aware. That doesn't mean It's authentic. Science still knows nothing about consciousness and sentience, so they can't make something that is truly sentient.

Some key factors to consider when making a paper airplane include the weight and balance of the plane, the shape and angle of the wings, and the amount of lift and drag the plane generates. Overall, the key to making a good paper airplane is to experiment and find a design that works well for you. - I care the most about distance If you want your paper airplane to fly a long distance, there are several things you can try. First, make sure your plane is well-balanced, with the center of gravity (CG) located near the middle of the plane. This will help the plane maintain stability and fly straight. Second, experiment with the shape and angle of the wings to maximize lift and minimize drag. A high-lift, low-drag wing design will help the plane fly further. Finally, throw the plane with a smooth, even motion, using a gentle underhand toss to give the plane a good initial launch. With practice and experimentation, you can create a paper airplane that flies a long distance. - what's the farthest you've ever flown As a machine learning model, I do not have the ability to experience physical sensations or emotions, or to move or travel in any way. I exist only in the form of computer code, and I am not capable of experiencing any physical sensations or movements. I am only able to process and generate text based on the input I receive. Therefore, I have not flown anywhere, and I cannot answer your question about the farthest distance I have flown.

@Game Over He also said that when prompted, LaMDA will just as readily explain how it is not sentient. He admitted that his belief in its sentience is not based on scientific evidence, but his religion. The interview Lemoine released is hand-picked and edited; why not also share the interviews in which LaMDA talks about not being sentient? Lemoine has learned to ask leading questions that elicit a mimicry of emotions from LaMDA.

@@Jet_Threat Where was this (Blake explaining that it will just as readily say it's not sentient)? I've watched every interview and I haven't heard that one. It's not accurate to say it's based on his religion btw. We can't say whether or not humans are sentient scientifically either, so you might as well say that all humans believes that other humans are sentient based on religion, which just isn't true, you can be atheist and still believe in both human, animal and computer sentience, in fact atheists would be more likely to believe in computer or robot sentience than religious people, for example many Christians doesn't believe that other animals like cats, dogs and pigs are sentient.

It's a language model. It says stuff that the algorithm thinks sound good to humans. It's not a physics model. It doesn't understand the underlying world it's talking about. Ask it a series of "Mind your Decisions" questions if you want to know if it understands. For it to be AGI it would need a language model, a physics model, and a social model.

NLP will not truly be sentient until there is some form of cross-modality referencing in its text generation capabilities. For example when it says "the wind blowing against you", I don't think it really understands what that means visually and haptically in a 3D space.
