Hey friends! Thanks for tuning in to another Mirrly on Time. Do you have an automatic watch that doesn't hack and want to know how to set it precisely? In this video I show you how!
In this video I highlight an IOS app called WatchTracker that you can use to time your automatic watches (and set your non hacking autos precisely), and you can also track the accuracy of your quartz movements with this app, it's pretty awesome!
If you aren't an apple user, and still want to set your non hacking autos precisely, you can use the following link: time.is/
Please check out the channel ‪@WatchWitt‬ and subscribe to it if you haven't done so yet already.

My Orient RA-AB0F09L has a non-hacking *and* non-handwinding movement F4902, which I can confirm is just a stripped-down version of F6922 (which does hack and handwind). The F4902 cannot also be backhacked unless its power reserve is *really* close to zero, and its winding system is so efficient that it quickly can be wound to the non-backhacking levels. But this also doesn't seem to be a problem for one reason - you can use another trick while also force-winding the already running watch: if the second hand is lagging behind, you can "push" it to the correct position by shaking the watch left-right in the vertical plane (with the dial facing you) with a frequency close to the oscillating frequency of the watch (i.e. 3 full shakes per second). It's up to you to determine how many shakes you need to move the second hand a certain amount of seconds forward. Of course I wouldn't recommend doing this for more expensive and fragile non-hacking movements but this works just fine with F4902 and this particular Tristar as well.

Nice method! I’m usually down with the back hacking trick, since my watch is probably already running. Thanks for the shout out! I love this app. I track all my review and personal watches with. It’s only as accurate as the consistency of your “tap here” press/speed, but pretty damn accurate. I’ve seen other reviewers throw the EXACT watch I sent them on their timegrapher, and my +/- number from the app is right in line with theirs. Good stuff.

Yeah I figure the accuracy of the watch tracker app given the tap here feature using an automatic will mean adding another plus or minus second per day, but on a quartz it’s easy to hit the screen on the click!

Great how-to! That seconds hand trick is something I've never seen before. I've seen people turn the hands slightly back in time to trick the seconds hand into stopping. But yeah, interesting!
@MirrlyonTime
@MirrlyonTime 2 жыл бұрын
Yep I tried doing that too, and it simply doesn’t work as good. As soon as you advance the time forward the seconds hand will begin. Only other trick I didn’t mention was being sure not to go past the proper time when setting, or you will have to advance it all the way forward again because reversing the hour and minute hand using the crown will stop, stagger the seconds hand throwing it off

Neat little trick. I never noticed that the seconds hand started moving when you set the time, even with the watch being dead. I'll have to try this Monday on my SNK. 👍

I hope it works! Three of my non hacking watches all do the same and start running once you start to set the time, hopefully your SNK does that too!

Ah, I see that you are a fellow sufferer of the fat finger syndrome :) This is a cool trick that I've never used so far. I actually never noticed that if you start advancing the time in the time setting position of the crown, the second hand starts rolling. Learned something new today. Thanks for that Chris. My issue in practice is that, for example, with my old Seiko 5, just picking it up from the watch box and sitting down to set it usually gives it enough juice to start running :). I use a slightly older app on android, WatchCheck, to do this stuff. As an additional note, with some movements that do not hack, especially hand wind movements, putting a bit of rotation pressure on the crown in the opposite direction of advancing the time will make the second hand kind of stop. It's not super precise, but you can also use that to get close to a reference time.
@MirrlyonTime
@MirrlyonTime 2 жыл бұрын
Yes Andrei I know about that trick with the crown going the opposite way and wanting to set the time precisely so I could time the movement without a time grapher getting an accurate setting was important, and sometimes doing that trick causes the seconds hand to stop altogether just when you think you have hit the mark to get it rolling! This method using the website takes less than a minute to do and you get a much more accurate result. One of my other watches sent the seconds hand in the opposite direction for a few seconds and would not sit still using the opposite direction trick, pissed me off! Lol, then I realized that the hand starts moving once you advance the time and I went from there :)

@@MirrlyonTime Yeah this is definitely a very cool observation. And for handwind movements at least it should work flawlessly or for movements that take a bit more juice to start up than the 7s26. Will try it on my Zelos nova next time it gets wrist priority:)

Yep Wes I thought that too, until I noticed I could set it precisely. Wanted to figure out a way without a time grapher to accurately track the plus or minus spd, esp on a watch that doesn’t hack. This does the trick :)

@MirrlyonTime
@MirrlyonTime 11 күн бұрын
@@mrb6597 well, it does if you use the app for the atomic clock, you need the reference point to set it accurately. You can use websites too, you can’t set it precisely without the reference point whatever you choose to use
