At 7:06, in Ontario, you are only legally required to signal if your action will affect another vehicle. In that case, legally, you did not HAVE to signal. Most of us just signal everything because it's easier mentally, than trying to decide every time if we need to or not (assuming you don't drive a BMW, if you do, you never have to signal).
@thedubwhisperer2157
@thedubwhisperer2157 2 ай бұрын
Signalling at every turn regardless of the situation is very poor driving. In advanced driving and before a turn, we are taught to consider: course/mirror/signal/speed/gear, then mirror/signal/horn/accelerate. If you indicate and there is no one there, will anyone see it?

With all the cameras looking 360 degrees you only have to use your blinker to do lane changes. Great for those with bad backs or cramped neck. Have been a beta tester for over 2 years. Once you are familiar with it you will want to get it. Great for long commutes. Moves over slightly to make room for motorcycles passing from rear and you would not even know it until the bike passes. Quite safe once you know it's quirks. FSD has came a long way and is getting better.

FSD is way smoother than my girlfriend, and way more decisive. She won't even try FSD on her own (risk-averse). I took her on a few FSD drives and she likes it, so she might trust it more in the near future. I think she's also worried about her ability to quickly correct a mistake without panicking too.

You can also set up FSD to engage with a firm single press too. One can also change modes, from chill, average, to assertive if you want to control how quickly it accelerates. One can also set how often it changes lanes too. It's going to be more difficult for risk-averse people (women mostly) to want to try FSD but those that learn to trust it (with supervision) are going to love it.

I have FSD Supervised on my Model S and the problem is that the paint for the lanes on the streets are all washed out after the winter, so the car often rides between two lanes, or chooses poorly. I could trust it a bit more if we had good lane paint that was still visible! The town won't repaint the lanes until May or June so the trial is not that great for my purposes. It's too bad because it's pretty cool. The speed setting, which I thought I had at +15 kph over the speed limit seems to be exceeded quite often as well, going 19-20 kph over the posted limit with no traffic around. It's almost like it knows on ceratin streets that I drive 20 kph over the limit 🤣 Cheers from NL

I don't even use the nav system at all if I'm just going to go pickup fast food (several about 1 mile or less) or go to the grocery store. But I am trying it out and I kind of like it, but it bumped a little curb (it's about 8-9" wide) between 2 driveways and scraped the hubcap, didn't like that. But I can see how it would be REALLY helpful on trips as well as commuting. It was fun letting it take me to work! Yeah, I think the monthly way for me. Usually get a new car every 5 years, so with car being 1 year old now, it would be cheaper to pay monthly for 4 years if I was going to use it every month.

Try using FSD on roads with the biggest and deepest portholes, the v12.3.3 FSD makes your tesla go straight through the porthole and causes damage, which Tesla blames on you to pay for any suspension related damage afterwards due to "you need to supervise FSD". Also, try backing up your Tesla in FSD in a public parking lot, it won't do it. The lack of rear cross traffic alert makes the system useless in thoses situations. So much for "it will blown your minds" and "it drives better than a human driver does". Try it.

Yes, that is the problem. We now have many Tesla drivers that have never used or watched videos like this and know how FSD actually performs. Many people like myself (never did FSD), would not drive the way FSD does. Frist it speeds up too fast to get to desired speed limits. Second it does turning by doing square 90 degree cornering. it gets somewhat out in the middle of the intersection and then turns sharply at 90 degree angles. To me it acts like the car wants to continue to go straight and then turns at the last moment. When it first did that, I thought the car was not going to turn. Last thing I don't understand is when I get to destination - my car did not come to a complete stop - it kept on going very slowly. Am I supposed to hit the brake or do End Trip. I was expecting the FSD to come to a complete stop at my destination - it didn't.

Looking forward to trying it. We have Enhanced AP here in Thailand, but it is so frustrating using just one the highway here I rarely use it except if I want to scratch my right foot. Letting exit from the highway will always illicit a scream from the wife, but entering the highway is worse. The lane changes make very little sense. It will tell you that it needs to get out of the go. Fast lane when you can clearly see that there is a slow car ahead that would force you back into the go. Fast lane in a short amount of time. It does not recognize big Mercedes-Benz roaring down the tollway in the go fast lane at 160 km and will not get out of the way. The ‘phantom’ breaking is not a figment of the imagination. It is very real and very active here. Smart summon only works for my wife. For me it just wants to crash. Hopefully version 12.something will be able to drive here in Thailand as drivers here just are not as disciplined and well mannered as they are in other countries. (Everyone drives on both shoulders as soon as the traffic slows a little). Moped drivers cut everyone off all the time. If you are from the west, you will either stay pissed off constantly or learn a new calm. Empty taxis are a menace! So it will be interesting. As smart as FSD seems now, I think it will, have to be genius level to drive in Bangkok.

I have FSD in my Tesla but I almost never use it because it's way too slow compared to my human brain. It takes too long to make decisions, especially at intersections and drivers behind me get impatient. I find myself constantly turning it off and taking over to save time. On the highway it does a better job but still a little too cautious for my taste. I guess I'm just too aggressive of a driver. If you're a slow and overly cautions driver, it might work for you.

Not signaling is not unsafe,as an advanced driver we are tough to only indicate, if there is someone to indicate to! A lot of people indicate on an empty road!

Thank you for doing this. Smart move. I know people here in the US that refuse to use cruise control. They are afraid of it. Worried because they are "not in control". So sad.

In my view, CC is 10x scarier than FSD. I never use Cruise Control, but FSD is very good even now.

Does FSD have learning capability, like knowing how to handle the lane merge situation?
@techman2553
@techman2553 4 ай бұрын
Each vehicle doesn't learn new things on it's own, they collect data and send it to Tesla servers to create new training scenarios. Then the updates are pushed to all of the vehicles. So your car won't learn from experience, but each update includes new things learned from the experiences of all the Tesla cars.

@@techman2553 I learned today that if the Right button is pressed during FSD, a message will appear on the screen asking why you disengaged Autopilot. You can submit a report/message directly to Tesla for review. I think this is the two-way feedback Tesla is hoping to achieve for improving the system.

The whole point of the free FSD for a month is to get more training for the AI computers. It cost Tesla nearly nothing and they get thousands and thousands of hours of data.

I think the most terrifying thing is not that you're terrified at experiencing it for the first time, it's that you become complacent after a long time, and forget that a computer can still glitch. And in this case, glitches can give you stitches. Or worse!

The thing is not to never glitch though. It is to glitch substantially less than the average human driver.

Of course she will be stressed, as for her first drive you took her on a double hairpin, that even a human driving would be nervous about. Why not start by taking in a regular drive around town. Also regarding the car not signalling the 2 lanes merge into 1, you yourself said that there was no other car in the other lane, so why would FSD need to signal.
