Would you send a disoriented pilot to fly a plane? NO! So why would a disoriented gymnast be expected to compete? Every event, every apparatus seems to require a certain spacial awareness so I totally understand why Simone didn't do all the events in Tokyo. For her safety & health, physical & mental, she withdrew. It would have been very dangerous, possibly fatal, to continue.

@@jennylynne4414 "She had mental block"? Please. You don't know her or her mind. Many gymnasts have come forward to talk about the twisties and how dangerous it can be. Biles would not have gone through FIVE years of training to go to Tokyo just to quit. If she felt capable of navigating it without a chance of serious injury, she would have (case in point, the beam final). She said months ago that Tokyo was her last Olympics, so what's your point?
@jennylynne44143 жыл бұрын

And my point is she should have stayed home and allowed the people who really wanted to compete to do so without stealing their spotlight. I used to admire her .. now I think she's just a full of excuses, selfish person. Nothing you say can change how I now view her. When the going gets tough, Simone Biles quits ...
@paulwright60443 жыл бұрын
@@jennylynne4414 Once again, you're lying to yourself and anyone who will listen. If you lose spatial awareness in mid-air, you can get hurt. There was no reason for Simone to risk long-term injury for short-term gain. You claiming that twisties are nothing more than mental block (despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary) shows that not only have you not done the research, but that you aren't willing to do so. The selfish one who should just stay home is you. Have a nice life.

She was SO wise to stop when she realized she was losing her place in the air. I wouldn't call that a mental health issue, since none of us in the world are capable of doing what she does in the air. If that's a mental health issue, none of us are mentally healthy. To me, she is among the wisest of great athletes loke explorers and mountaineers who know when to turn around. For example, Reinhold Messner is probably the greatest mountaineer who has ever lived, and he attributes his survival to having the wisdom to turn around, no matter how close he is to the summit, when he senses that it's the wisest course of action, whether the reason is exhaustion or the weather or some other factor. A major part of greatness is knowing when to pull back and live to try another day. If Simone Biles had been less mature and had tried to continue, she could be dead or a quadropeligic today. That happened to a Russian gymnast who was the greatest in her time, who begged to be able to stop because she wasn't making the full rotation on a dangerous and now banned move. The USSR forced her to continue and she landed on her chin, snapped her neck, became paralyzed from the neck down, and died of the complications. Surely, Simone Biles knew that history and was wise enough not to end up that way herself. What she's doing is so dangerous, it's like falling out of a tree while spinning. If she isn't sure where the floor is, she could die. I'm SO GRATEFUL that she was wise and we didn't end up watching her die.
