The brown dye effect was a surprise! Really loved the combination of colors. What did you think of the difference in the two black pastes that you used. Sometimes, I wish that you would go through the various color additive products and teach what you have learned about the differences, effects, observations!

Hey Wendy and thank you for your comments! I think that's a great idea about a review on the colorants and their effects! Regarding the black pastes, I liked the Onyx because of reaction and small cells that appeared after torching it. Both of them had just a tad of shimmer to them, but I also like how they were more opaque than the black metallic mica. Thank you again!

When you do a hanging art piece on the pink foam board, how do you treat the back? Do you use a thin coat of bondo and then paint it? Thinking of making some and selling and don’t want the customer to be able to poke a hole in the back 😀. Love your work❤
@kcdcdesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie, if it were me in that scenario, I would coat the back with Quick Coat at 2-3 oz/sf so it wouldn't be easy to puncture, then lightly sand and paint. What I've done with my hanging pieces, is to router out an area that I can epoxy in a small block of wood so there's something to screw into, to be able to hang it. If you did that, you could then epoxy those in, along with being able to coat the entire back side as well. Does that make sense? Send me a text if you'd like and I can send you a pic of how I put the blocks in. Keith @ 402-310-0171.

Wonderful. For gods sake help me. After days of bondoing counters and prepping them I went to pour today. Mixed the epoxy exactly using measuring cups. I have 55 sq ft of counter space. So I needed 1 1/2 gallons. Mixed it with drill for 3 minutes. Then I seperated it into 3 containers. Used mica powder. Metallic color. Dye. Poured out first 2 colors. Went to grab the other one and it was curing. All 3 were so hot I couldnt touch them hardly. The ones i poured cured immediately. I used Art Coat. DISASTER. I scraped what I could. What a mess. I coulldn't get this crap off my hands, arms or legs. Spent 2 hours trying to remove it. Broke out into some weird ass rash from it. What went wrong?

But heres the strange part...when I went to scrape it off, the resin that was in bottom of original bucket I flipped upside down on counter was fluid like it was supposed to be. None of this makes any sense cuz i never left resin in containers for very long before pouring...????

Wow, Polly I'm so sorry to hear that! What happened was that the epoxy exothermed on you, and it doesn't take long, especially in a mass. It's not unusual that the bottom may still have been fluid because it was the mass above it where the chemical reaction occurred. Once it begins to exotherm, the fumes can be toxic, which might explain the rash. 1 1/2 gallons is a lot to mix up at one time. Once you mixed it for 3 minutes the chemical reaction began. Then, just with the time it took to add the micas and mix them also (presumably with your drill), time is not on your side. As you're mixing color #1, the other 2 buckets are already reacting, then by using the drill, you may also have been speeding up the exotherm process. It kinda sounds like the perfect storm and I'm so sorry that happened. Contributing factors could also be temp and humidity where you were mixing, high speed on your drill, and mostly just sitting in a mass for even 5-10 minutes.

@@kcdcdesigns Ty for responding. I called the company tech hotline. Quinn said to cool house down to 70 degrees. Its warm here in Indiana. We have haze from supposed fires in Canada. Who knows? lol Anyway, she said to mix in different buckets and spread it, then repeat. Gonna be tough sanding that off and prepping again. Ugh. Had to purchase more product-expensive mistake and lesson learned. Rash better today. So listen, can u tell me the formula of water for the topcoat at 55 sq ft? I suck at math. I responded on Rhondas video about an idea I had. What if u guys did a formula starting at 4 or 5 sq ft up to 60 sq ft with ratios for topcoat? Something we can print out or snap a pic of? It would save lots of time and help us all out. U could skip 1/2 feet cuz if theres leftover...oh well. What do u think? Topcoat is an issue for most of us. I have ur video saved on the process. Actually, that formula could be sent when shipping product. Take out the guess work and be better than the competition.

@@pollymontgomery2568 Are you going to use UTC Gloss or Natural (matte)?
@pollymontgomery2568 Жыл бұрын
@@kcdcdesigns I have gloss
@kcdcdesigns Жыл бұрын
@@pollymontgomery2568 55 square feet x .275 = 15.125 (I would round to 15 ounces) of UTC needed (Gloss or Natural) Water to add: 15 ounces UTC x .50 (add 50% water) = 7.5 ounces water This gives you a total amount of fully mixed UTC at 22.5 ounces. More than plenty and you'll have a lot left over. If it were me, with my experience using so much UTC, I would mix up 12 ounces of Gloss UTC, add 6 ounces of distilled water and end up with a total amount of Gloss UTC at 18 ounces. Still enough to complete the 55 square foot job. *NOTE* If you're going to apply UTC to 55 square feet, I would highly recommend having a helper with the UTC. Either have them do the wet rolling or the dry rolling because that's a lot to cover for one person. Or, if there are separate pieces and you're doing it by yourself, I would consider 2 separate applications.
