To knit this simple and easy diaper cover (soaker) for 0-3 months old baby you need to know how to - cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, increase, K2tog, P2tog and bind off. If you do, you can follow my video without any problem. It is a FAST knitting project because I used a bulky yarn.

This is the first time I have seen someone knit like me..I did not know it was called continental. I find it much faster and firmer stitches. My mum taught me and her Norwegian grandmother taught her.

I love this style of knitting! I subscribed so I can learn more! seeing you try "English style" reminds me of how I struggle trying to knit, lol. I've been crocheting my whole life, & your style of knitting is so similar to how I crochet; you make me want to try again to take up knitting. thank you! very well made video!

Thank you Kris, yes my "English style" is not very elegant, but I can do it if I get my mind to it - haha... it is OK if people see that I am "struggling" because that can motivate them and we all together then create a better world... thank you and welcome... BTW - for three months I will not be uploading much of any projects (just some short videos that people can learn from) - I am taking classes at a college :-)

right? but I think the problem for people is to hold the pointer up in the air with yarn wrapped around it while trying to make a stitch - for beginners it is easier to put yarn down when inserting a knitting needle into the stitch and then taking the yarn back into their fingers and wrapping it around... 😉

I am not sure - I think you need to do a swatch, measure it and then calculate the stitches and rows for the item. I didn't make this one from a #4 weight yarn... I made another one from #4 weight here is the free written pattern - handmade-rukodelky.blogspot.com/2015/09/soakers-holy-guacamole-free-pattern-for.html

Hello! What is the gauge for this project? I LOVE this pattern and want to knit it so badly, but I can't seem to find #6 Super Bulky Yarn in 100% wool anywhere. I have found #5 Bulky Yarn in 100% wool, and I'd like to use it for this project. Thanks a million!

Hi Chrisrtina - I used Lion Brand, Wool-Ease, Thick and Quick; super bulky; 80% acrylic, 20% wool; color of your choice, 5oz/140 g; 87 yds/80 m; per manufacturer 4 in x 4 in = 9 sts x 12 rows - hope this helps 🌸🌸🌸

Awesome! Thank you so much for replying and letting me know what kind you used! Did you find that it worked well for water resistance? I'm wanting to use these for a cloth diaper water resistant cover.
@HandMadeRukodelky
@HandMadeRukodelky 4 жыл бұрын
That is a great question - personally, I didn't use this diaper - I just designed it. However, this diaper is made from an absorbent fiber, so it will not be resistant to water, it will absorb it - so if you want to use it to stop leakage from cloth diaper it will not work. Imagine you wrap your sweater around the baby's diaper - it would not keep the leakage going through the sweater to other clothes. In the old days I grew up with cloth diapers and we used a diaper cover that had a soft plastic lining. Cloth diapers are designed to stop an excessive waste (too many plastic one time diapers end up in our oceans, rivers, land) 🍀
@dreamitupforever15
@dreamitupforever15 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for explaining that to me! Yes, I totally agree. I truly, truly believe that cloth diapers are DEFINITELY the way to go - environmentally, financially, and healthily.💐

Anyone have a review for this style Diaper? Wanting to make it but want to know how well it works first. If you add lanolin to it does it work like the super expensive wool covers? I want to be able to use just a flat and liner on the inside then this
@HandMadeRukodelky
@HandMadeRukodelky 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Princess, I am not sure what you mean about "adding lanolin", the diaper cover is supposed to act sort of like "pants" covering the diaper... if you have cloth diapers then I probably would use other pants that prevent leakage. The yarn is not super expensive, so it is not as soft as high-end yarn; lastly, this yarn is thick so the diaper cover is thick too. I hope this will somewhat answer your questions
@risenqueen7751

Bronislava 4 HandmadeRukodelky I know it’s more for decoration but was hoping I could use it as a wool cover but buying one is extremely expensive so I would rather just make one and make it waterproof with lanolin

Hi I love your video. For 1 year old baby how many stitches is need it please ? Thank you
@HandMadeRukodelky
@HandMadeRukodelky 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Monika, you need to measure the baby around the waist - then add 2" for each overlapping side (= 4" total); then do a swatch and count how many sts in one inch. Multiply your stitches (in one inch) with total of your total measurement (waist in inches + 4 extra inches) - hope this helps

Barbara, I am sorry I was traveling - you do a yarn over your knitting needle, then next two stitches get purled together (if you add 1 stitch, then we have to take a stitch away, so you have same # of stitches) - I hope this helps 🌸

Hi, thanks a lot for this wonderful video. It is so helpful. I've just started knitting, your video encouraged me to try a diaper cover but I couldn't find a super bulky yarn.I found bulky yarn which advises to use 7mm needle. Do I need to increase stitches?
@HandMadeRukodelky
@HandMadeRukodelky 6 жыл бұрын
yes, you may have to increase by a few stitches - if you are knitting with thinner yarn, if the cover needs to be bigger or if you knit very tight stitches. Do a swatch test - to find out how many stitches you would need to cast on (measure the baby and then measure stitches per 4 inches - and compare) and then follow the video as an inspiration for increases/decreases. Good luck and let me know how it turns out 🍀🌹🌸

I love this pattern and am knitting it now. However I would like 3 to 6 months size. I can add 2 or 4 stitches which would make it wider but doesn't it need more rows so it's long enough? How would you recommend I determine rows for length? Thank you!!
@HandMadeRukodelky
@HandMadeRukodelky 5 жыл бұрын
Hi nana, add few more rows in the waist area, and yes I would add 2-4 stitches for the width, depending on the size of the baby and depending on how loos/tight you knit - good luck 🍀

I forgot if I used 1/2 or more of the ball - but most likely more than 1/2 the ball - I think you will need more yarn for 2 covers 🍀

What can I tell u - I love my knitting and crocheting virtual friends - and check my KZbin, G+, FB, twitter occasionally :) I took my drawing pens and notepad and I draw here and there. They would probably object to my knitting needles or hooks at the airport . So I am creating some art now. I am having a great time with my family - we had a reunion at the lake today - it was very nice

average waist measurement for 0-3 months old is 18 inches, average waist measurement for 1 year old is 20 inches... you need to add as many stitches as they fit into 2 extra inches - if you knit with super bulky yarn #6 you will need in that extra 5-6 stitches

Hi Molly - the easiest way it would be probably not to buy bulky yarn but use #4 worsted yarn, and smaller size needles (that are recommended on the yarn label) than I used in the video.
