I watched this live when it aired and I remember thinking Kendrick being such a great inclusion in the performance. But seeing the artist he’s become now this simply feels like a fever dream, it’s always great to be reminded. In retrospect, the decision to put Maad City before radioactive seems poetic. I don't know how to describe it in words. 😅 The first song embodied conflict, both internal and external. Then tension grew until it went nuclear-- BOOM: Radioactive.

That year was the first (and only) time I've ever watched the Grammys and holy crap. I never really cared about Kendrick before that because I avoided radio music like the plague. I smoked and once Kendrick came on, I was blown away at his lyrical prowess. Maad City became one of my all time favorite tracks from then on and that's the only thing I even remember from that whole show.
