Didn't cry, couldn't I was in shock. Was up early to do some substituting,turned the TV on and watched as the second plane crashed into building.Couldnt believe what I had just seen around six am in California. Called my sister in Santa Clara . She hadn't put he news on as yet. Her best friend and roommate lived in NY. Her husband Tommy worked for the city . Told my sister call M, to find out about Tom. She reached her God Daughter's mom before telephones experienced problems. Their daughter was supposed to arrive by plane, instead they wound up driving to bring her home Simple twist of fate . . . Tom's office was in one of the towers and he had the day off to go to airport.

The day America was 100% United was September 11, 2001. I will never forget that horrific day. Two airplanes crashed into the Twin Towers. One crashed into the Pentagon and another crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania because the passengers took over the plane and sacrificed their lives for democracy. I remember getting the call while I was at work. My wife was home with her little boy who wasn't even a year old and she told me what had happened. I remember getting on my computer and trying to find anything I could to watch what was happening. I remember my heart racing and the feeling of fear that rushed over me as I tried to comprehend what was happening. It was a sad event where many innocent lives were taken because some sick people who want to do harm to innocent people all in the name of their religion. But we must remember that it's not just the lives that were lost that day but the many soldiers who fought to try to gain some form of Justice in the name of those lost loved ones. Many lies were lost. May we never have to experience that again even though we all know that evil grows in the darkest deepest caves of countries that we don't even have eyes. Can we have to hope that that point when those people decide to step out that God wraps his hands around us to protect us.

For folks who don’t understand the need to memorialize those directly and indirectly affected by 9/11. The morning of 9/11 I worked in an office in Philadelphia. We continued to work. One of our team would update us on the events transpiring on TV. Around 9:45 one of my coworkers took a quick phone call from her husband. He was in LE and shared there was another plane hijacked and flying over PA. I couldn’t utter a sound. Chills ran through my body. This was a massive attack with the potential to put so many people in the Eastern States in harms way.

It was the hole in our hearts that the empty space represented. Many of us after our freshman year in college enlisted. I joined the Marines. Every deployment to Afghanistan reminded me of that hole that I stared into. This event single-handedly brought the U.S. together, regardless of political affiliation to combat a common enemy.

I think the time has come to move on. On September 11, 2001, a lot of people lost their lives. 2,977 to be exact. Since that awful day, almost 400,000 Americans have been murdered. Over 1,300,000 have died in a car accident. Well over 13,000,000 have died of cancer. JUST CANCER. That number doesn't include dying from any other disease. And what about suicide? More than 50,000 people. In the year 2023 alone. It's good to remember. But if I died that day - in one of the Twin Towers - or because my plane was crashed into the Pentagon - or because I was annihlated on a grassy field in Shankville, Pennsylvannia, I would want my loved ones to put memories of me aside and get on with their lives. And it would be my hope that they live long and healthy lives and are able to share all of their adventures with me when we meet again.
