Thank you ☺ It can be quite a lot to wrap your head around and I'm glad I started with just one synth and the 707, since there was a lot to learn. But now I figured out how to do what I want pretty quickly and make the process a lot of fun! I can't help you with the digitakt myself, as I never owned an Elektron box (apart from the Analog Heat 2, which I returned unfortunately because I did not understand what it could do for me), but they are on my list for sure. I like their design and workflow method. The only thing is that it feels like they were aimed a bit more for programming instead of playing your music. But that is how I started with a tracker long long time ago, and I made 2 albums with that, so it should not be too bad :)

Very cool! Thank you. There's definitely a niche audience for stuff like this. My setup is 707/Peak/Pro 3 and a few odds and ends so I've learned a ton from watching your videos. (I would love to see a camera on the 707 display.) A couple of questions: Your hardware sounds are continually evolving as you move from part to part. So, when you eventually return to part A, the synths may be in a totally different state. Are you solving that by saving patches and associating program changes with every clip? Or, is it more like you're developing a sonic pallet that is meant to cover the entire jam? At one point you mention forgetting to save the Sub 37 patch, so we didn't see that part of the workflow. What does the audio routing look like. Are you running the synth outs back into the 707 or into a mixer or audio interface? What about the FX pedals. Are they 'inserted' between specific synths and the audio destination, are the on their own effects bus, or maybe you're using the send/return slots on the 707? Where do you do the final arrangement? Do you typically arrange on the 707 with clips or scenes? Or do you work with the output audio in a DAW?

Thanks man. Really appreciate it. Yes, I think this is kind of a niche video, but so far I got a lot of cool questions and responses, so I think it was worth it. I thought about filming the 707 screen too, but... Yeah, that would have made it more complicated and I did not want to kill the vibe (it can go away quickly). Something to consider for next time. And I also thought about compressing it by leaving some parts out, which are kind of repetative. It's a learning process :) About your questions : I normally save my Synth patches if they change too much to 'remember' what I was doing. And in this case, I should have done that. But with the camera rolling, I somehow did not think about that and now I will have to recreate the main patches again if I want to finalize this jam. Fortunately, I can see what I was doing with all the physical knobs, so that should not be too hard. So far I have not worked with program changes, but instead relied on my brain to remember when to switch patches. Not many jams have this, but I used that method a dozen of times and it is 'ok', but one thing that I can mess up :) The thing that I try is to make one or more clips in between where the synth does not play, so I hopefully remember it's time to change patches. About the routing : I would love to be able to run everything through the 707 (which is how I started), because then you can use the faders for external audio too. But I now have bought too much gear for that..... In short, all synths go into my Behringer XR18 and my pedals are FX send-return loops (stereo). So I can choose which synths / gear gets send there and in which order. This is kind of the most flexible aproach compared to inserts, as I can treat my pedals like an insert (which I do often), or send a couple of sound sources through them in parallel with both the dry and wet in the final mix. I made a video about how everything is connected and it is still largely the same. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enPEfJSan7OSjM0 The next phase of this jam will be to combine the stored clips into scenes and build my rough foundation of the final jam like that. I usually don't store automation and I don't chain clips, because that part is what I still want to do live (next to some minimal playing sometimes, because I tend to mess that up). So I rehearse the final jam a couple of times, usually adding some details in that process (smaller changes or extra ear candy) and then it's time to set up my camera gear and arm my DAW. Everything is recorded in one take. So when I mess up, I have to start again. But with the XR18, I do have the multitracks and, depending on the routing I chose, this means I can do some mixing and mastering in post. I never add stuff in post, otherwise I would not consider this a DAWLess jam. And I have to say, for me it's not about the end product (track) but about the fun of making these jams. Of course I want them to sound good, but it does not have to be perfect. It's a mix of prepared clips (midi) and live work which gets recorded and mixed. And that is how I like to work right now.
