No. They did not want to harm nor kill Arbery. They suspected he may have a weapon, such as a handgun in the pocket. Long post warning: I don't know if you watched the pre-trial hearings or watched the final sidebar today where they discussed this, but the whole trial seems sort of false as they all know the key to this case, but aren't allowed to mention it at the trial. The key being that Arbery was mentally ill, and probably quite seriously at the point he was shot. I think his mental illness records should have been allowed in the trial as they answer two questions that have lingered over the whole case. Firstly, why did Arbery keep returning to a construction site, sometimes late at night? Secondly, why did he react so unusually to being chased, and why did he choose to confront two armed men who seemed like they were serious about telling him not to come closer?

@audimaster50003 жыл бұрын
It’s no mystery that a lot of Americans struggle with the idea of rubbing elbows with fellow Americans who happen to be black. The pastor part just means a person who is generally a well received and respected figure in a community. It just so happens that particular one has a presence beyond just a church community figurehead. He has been around for awhile and has the respect and shares a presence that is also the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans. Even if for those who may not be religious or necessarily see eye to eye with him, most Americans would still feel honored by his presence rather than feel distracted or have any qualms. It wouldn’t be reasonable for him to cause any angst unless ya know, can’t handle being cool with Americans meaning all Americans. And to the point of feeling compelled as a defense attorney to actually bring it to the courts attention and ask for relief. It’s amazing the denial that what is rooted in racism is still tangled up in our US society and how far it goes into every aspect of our lives no matter who we are.
