Just saw a red cardinal, then shortly after a yellow one on my fence in Friendswood, TX. Had never seen one before and had no idea they were so rare. Very cool to see. Because I didn't realize it was so rare I didn't think to get a pic. :(

I live in Eastern Oklahoma and was at my Mom's place in early February 2020. I saw this bird and actually thought it was just a miscolored female, I had no knows of golden cardinals at all. I pointed it out to her and we both watched it land on her back deck where they put out seed everyday. It was remarkable enough that I decided to look it up and found this video. I can't believe that we actually saw this rare bird and I real light it does have this golden sheen. Amazing, I hope it comes back.

This coloration is a simple genetic mutation that is obviously harmless to this bird. It's clear the bird is not ill. It's the picture of Health. It's feathers look healthy and fluffy, its eyes are bright, it has no lethargy, it's perky and hopping around. Anyone can see this is a healthy bird. And if you look on KZbin there was another yellow Cardinals spotted last year in New Hope, Alabama. The yellow was much deeper and duller but it is apparently genetic and I'm guessing the yellow cardinal from last year bred and created yellow offspring that are even more vibrant. If you can pass it on to your young its genetic.
@domenicomazzella80266 жыл бұрын
It is a genetic mutations. The gene could be easily passed on with captive breeding. If this subject was captured, tamed and breed with a domestic female (in south America is legal) the offspring would be a mix of yellow birds and red ones with carring yellow gene. Than breed a female with the father and a yellow mutations new race is created.

Since the color of Cardinals plays such an important role in their interaction with others, what impact would the yellow color have on those with this mutation? For instance, it would seem this would affect their ability to attract a mate.

Hello everyone today I actually spotted two yellow cardinals together while playing tennis. One looked smaller than the other. The smaller one at first looked like a chick but then I’m like what chickens don’t fly. The smaller one was all yellow with black on face but the bigger one was yellow with black wings and black face. I’m in Chicago Illinois I was able to get a picture using my phone. Omg they were so beautiful and and followed each other everywhere.

Pumpkin0330 titi genetic mutations that affect color don't usually cause problems for the bird. Occasionally they will, but usually it's harmless.
