Holy crap that full voice came out of no where. It smacked me in the face and I was sooooo happy about it. The way he started it being breathy and creepy and yet seductive was amazing and then, to just belt and sing full voice with so much gusto and so much intensity and then bring it back to soft... GENUIS. One of the best. After Ramin for me.

Besides Ramin, I think this dude hits every single note, beat, look, essence of this role. This is perfection and I have wanted to play this role my entire life and have endured some of the worst renditions of this song, and this gentleman, he just fucking destroys this song. I also love that you can tell this guy is classically trained as he elongates every vowel and gives even the smallest words like it or the their full musical value with vibrato…I’m just so inspired that I’m running out of words. What a voice. It’s so refreshing to discover a new great Phantom after all of these years, and to make this song fresh. He killed this.

@davidfrancis674 жыл бұрын
I find it so odd that many performers sing "bae" when the pure vowel is easier
@Pixsulate4 жыл бұрын
e is such a hard vowel to sing, especially powerfully, so big kudos
@pandate20364 жыл бұрын
@@davidfrancis67 thr issue is that it is extremely difficult to get the power necessary for that specific note if you sing the pure vowel. Singing it as bae allows more depth through the a, and as such you're more able to get the power in the note
@alyr2284 жыл бұрын
E is harder to sing than A so people tend to go "bae" to get the power and then round off with the right letter

His moments of “speak-singing” and his overall lower, true Baritone/Baritone TC range remind me a lot of Anthony Warlow. Which is great. He was probably was the first Baritone TC in the role, and I believe the first to speak some of the MotN phrases, not just full singing (eg., Michael Crawford and commonly succeeding Phantoms). Ben def has a deeper range; and you can tell he’s got a great grip on the role. Shame how the last few months played out for him. Read a fascinating AMA thread where he was talking about how hard it is to sing properly in the Majestic (unlike this) as of the heat, no monitors facing stage (so, he can’t hear himself well - esp under 1/2 face of prosthetics, a mask, other make up, lots of clothes), and a sound system that’s (at the end of the show) 35+ years old with no improvements AND the hottest theatre on earth. So, no wonder he began to change a bit towards the last leg 8 shows a week.
