Watch This Before Adding Sky ID / RID to Older Spectrum Receiver / Eflite RC Plane - Near Crash

My experience attempting to add SKY ID / Remote ID and use added telemetry features. Video will cover initial issues, updating the receiver to the latest firmware and subsequent takeoff and near crash. Watch this before you attempt to make SKY ID work for you! I got lucky, hoping to keep people from having a very bad day at the field. None of this is in the instruction manual that comes with it. Vol. 2 to follow......

Neither will I my friend I fly fixed wing and helicopter and this is a moneymaking scam of all time millions of dollars will be raked in out of honest hard-working folks pockets like us… They're just creeps. You don't have to comply if there's a safety risk. Says so right there in this b.s. "law." Clearly it will negatively impact control of the model. The preamble of our Constitution guarantees us the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. That's not some obscure amendment like the right to bear arms, or even the 14th amendment which we apparently can ignore altogether. Maybe after ten or so, the amendments just become suggestions? 🤣 The 2nd amendment gives us weekly mass killings. Foam airplanes are the definition of pursuit of happiness, and is harmless. FAA can kiss my butt. If they try messing with my pursuit of happiness, they may quickly find themselves on the wrong end of my right to bear arms.😉 Some folks failed to learn that stupid laws erode respect for ALL laws.

Something to watch out for. Thanks for warning us all to double check settings after a receiver update. I've updated all my receivers and haven't run into an issue yet. I must be lucky and all my planes must have the servos going the default direction. I for one really like the additional features you get with the remote ID module, I just don't like being forced to purchase and use it!

Hopefully this was a one-off scenario. Didn't even check flight controls before takeoff as I was not expecting anything like this. I like the extra features of this too. Glad to hear other people are not having this issue as this would be a pain dealing with this on every older model!

I'm glad you were able to abort before disaster struck. No wonder it wouldn't rotate with the elevator reversed lol. I've had the servos direction change after doing an rx upate. Also check you safe/as3x is operating the right directions after an update... I've even had the servos change direction after re-setting up safe/as3x. The good thing is once you get it right it stays put. Allways check at home and check at the field before flying. As I taxi out to the end of the runway to take off, I check the telemetry screen and take note of the Fade count before throttle up. Hopefully you'll be able to do a follow up video soon. .

Something I certainly wasn't expecting, because I didn't even check flight controls before takeoff, lesson learned. That being said, hopping this is a one off scenario when I update my other older receivers to work with Sky ID

You need to set up your radio to call the information out for you. It can be set for any value of 10 second increments. Plus warnings can be set up. Mine works just fine. Have GPS, Altitude and Airspeed all selected under telemetry! If "GPS" is not selected you will not get airspeed or altitude. GPS is what enables you to get those values.

Older receivers don't have the GPS screen, you have to update it and that's where the issue of the controls popped up. I'm sure Horizon's newest models with the latest firmware won't have the issue

I'm not putting that crap in my horizon Hobby's V900.I only fly 2 five minutes flights and the planes back in my car and done for the day.I flew last week and this week and had no problems with non compliance.

1st thing. You should have added the gyro first. 2nd,You updated the receiver . Doing that strips all settings including AS3X. That will have to be reset also. 3rd. you failed to do a radio check prior to your flight. Don't nock the module. Just another bit of info. On the smart receivers. If you are indoors you module will not get a satellite connection and your throttle may not work.

Not nocking the unit so much as the directions that come with it. This is just my experience with attempting to use it on an older Eflite model. Never had any reason in the past to update the receiver on any of my models. Firmware updates don't completely wipe your Spectrum transmitter when you update your firmware. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the receiver to behave the same way. The directions that come with the unit are very limited and certainly don't mention any of this along with some of the functionality of it once you do get it running. I posted this video so that other pilots can be aware of some of the issues you can face with this and not make the same mistakes that can result in a crash on takeoff. Not everybody posts things on youtube just to complain.

It's a scam for sure absolutely… It will generate hundreds of millions of dollars out of our pockets. And the device you paid for out of your hard-working money didn't even work properly given you disappointment anxiety a little and a headache. I guess I can see other people's remarks I also will never comply. It is honestly a moneymaking scam and if everyone said go to hell they might think twice. What are they going to do throw everybody in jail not likely. They should be sued for the scam

Not sure that I would have bought Sky ID if I didn't have the channel, but I am not taking a chance. Pretty easy to make examples of KZbinrs if they wanted to.

Right? If I didn't have the channel, not sure if I would be futzing with these. The one thing that really intrigues me with these is the speedometer. These could be the lightest GPS meters on the market if they are fairly accurate..

You screwed up your plane doing that forward programing of the receiver.I don't believe in this stuff.You run the risk of loosing AS3X and SAFE that was programmed in the receiver at the factory.Forget about that stupid ID module and just enjoy flying your plane.These planes give us enough problems with bad servos,speed controllers etc Your wasting your time and most of all,your money.Its just a foamy park flyer.

You should do a little more research before you start making assumptions. What I did has nothing to do with forward programing.
