I am considering becoming a Psyche NP from a BSN RN, and one factor I am considering is my physical ability as I get older. I’m 38 now and I am able to work 70+ a week and be very flexible in scheduling OT. I make a lot doing this as a RN, but I know when 50+ it’s going to be hard. I have no experience in NP Psyche, but what it appears to me it is less physically demanding and more mentally. May be more appropriate as I get into my late 50’s…

What nursing do you do that you can work 70+ hours per week? Surely you can’t work bedside in a hospital.

This literally could not be more timely! Haven’t finished watching this yet, but thank you so much for putting down this info in advance. I am aiming to be an NP and right now Psych NP is my top pick, but I have been a little hesitant due to all the bad things I’m hearing about NPs (saturation, long wait for hiring etc.). Juggling between being an NP or a PA, tbh…

My moms an RN / PSYCH Nurse and I always admired what she does. I'm soooooo terrified to change ( I'm in Canada ) and I'm upgrading a bunch of courses from high school to join within next 2 or 3 years. Any advice ? So question, I have 3 years of ER experience with lots of psych patients. Now I’m in PACU and love the flexibility. I have taken care of psych patients but never actually in a psych unit. Should I make a switch while going to school or is it okay to stay where I’m at?
@shaniquestrachan27332 жыл бұрын
Stay where u at
@mokoroc Жыл бұрын
You also have the option to do per diem psych so you can get some reps in, but honestly its not needed. You will do fine. ER nurses have experience with acute psych patients that will go into stabilization and you've likely given those meds. (I'm a new grad PMHNP), did outpatient psych but wished I had more inpatient experience before and even now though. But it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. Do what is best for you & set yourself up for so once you graduate - you can go directly in the field you want (urgent care PMHNP, crisis stabilization, outpatient, tele, ketamine clinic, etc) best of luck! I always wanted PACU and started in ICU LOL.
