Funny how people make fun of spyderco fans saying they over pay so much but we have companies like benchmade selling old steels and marking up way more then spydercos. At least spydercos using all sorts of steals and not afraid to use differnt blade shape or drilling a hole right on the blade breaking molds by being bold.
@Cahwai
@Cahwai Жыл бұрын
My biggest complaint is if you break your spyderco, they don’t offer blade changes so if it breaks you’re stuck with it. Also anything from dealer exclusives have little to no warranty. But they do steels right and if i want to try something new i’ll go to spyderco but i prefer Benchmades warranty to spyderco’s.

I have 1 Spyderco PM2 and a Benchmade Bailout. The Spyderco has an excellent lockup, smooth operation, and feels excellent in the hand, fit and finish is top notch. My Benchmade was slightly dull out of the box, the blade isn't even close to centered, the Axis lock sticks and sometimes takes 2 hands to unlock, and it feels very cheap even though it cost about the same as my PM2

As a seasoned Spyderco collector l found this video very enjoyable and informative. My favorite thing about Spyderco, especially the PM2, is you can easily modify them to make your own. Recently I added burlap micarta scales and deep carry clips to my two Shamans and it really dresses them up nicely. ❤ Happy collecting. 😂

i have a question, it's fell known that Endura has a little blade play from the pivot side, what can you tell about Stretch 2? Is it build more rigid than Endura? If you have an experience of using it of course.

100% correct about the modification ease of the PM2. I carried them a couple times, but I always go back to my bread and butter, the Police model. I have a Police 2 PE, Police Model from the early 90's aluminum handles SE, Police 4 FRN K390 SE, Police 4 G10 K390, and on the way, Police 3 G10 VG10 steel (kinda rare). Yeah but they sure gave us a giant middle finger for the factory seconds sale. I just got into knives in the last 8 months or so. My first spyderco was the pm2 s90v. Then two weeks ago when all the major sites had a spyderco sale I went crazy and bought 6 more knives from them. Had no clue a factory seconds sale was right around the corner. Found out I about the seconds sale the night before and I tried getting on the site at exactly 9am when the sale started. The site wasn’t loading. Diffused I’d wait a few more hours and try again, 3pm still didn’t load. Finally when I came back at 4pm I got to the sale knives, the only thing worth buying was a Native 5 maxamet. I immediately added to my cart and tried to check out but got a message “sorry, we just sold out of this item.” Later that night I saw screen shots of what knives were on sale in the beginning and the insanely low prices they were marked. Couldn’t be more p!ssed. Spent $800 with them in the last month and when a really good sale came around I wasn’t even able to make a purchase cuz their site wasn’t working. Feels like a giant slap in the face. Came to find out the same thing happened to tons of other people.

I'm brand new to knife collecting. First knife is already a dream knife, the reate exo m. But recently found out spiderco is colorado based and today went to their factory direct warehouse in golden. Chase was very knowledgeable and helped me learn more about knives and helped me pick up knife 2 and 3: military 2 and delica 4. Really happy with them. He was also very upfront with some details like the fact i could find them cheaper online (like blade hq) but i have no problem paying a little more premium to support local.

Great video. While I do love a number of their designs, 3 things keep me coming back. Quality, steel variety & heat treatment. Only ever had a couple of minor quality issues - mostly to do with blade centring. Now I appreciate steel variety & heat treating may not be of interest to many. However, if you want a variety of steel in your diet & you want to know that you're getting the best out of it, then I can easily recommend Spyderco. You'll notice that Spyderco rarely leads the charge in using new steels because they take their time to dial in a good heat treat first. I'll take the halo off now. Sharp blades all.

@realbroggo

If you love the Tenacious (assuming 8Cr steel) - you'll absolutely love the Shaman & PM2. The step up in terms of performance is massive regardless of which steel you go with. While there is some step-up in handle ergos and overall quality - it's the steel where you get the jump. Regardless of S30V, S35VN or S45VN etc.... the improvement in sharpness & edge retention is awesome. You even get a bump up in corrosion resistance. Yes, they are a bit harden to sharpen bit the performance hit is well worth it. Have a great day.

Spyderco also has a little-acknowledged Byrd line of budget knives. They're similar to the Value folder series in that they are 8Cr13MoV steel and made in China, but they tend to run a bit cheaper, and they have a couple of hawkbill and wharncliff shaped blades that are interesting in their own right.

One durability perk of spydercos with nylon grips, thin / small blades, and minimal or no liners: a 2-3oz lightweight spyderco can survive a tip down drop that no 4+oz Paramilitary will. In a knife carried for use, dropping the knife is as plausible a source of damage as hard use. The atlantic salt is basically impossible to damage from dropping, between light weight and blade shape.

LOL George - Yeah, you better take a big swig of that coffee . . . you got a lot to cover in this video bro! You did a great job here - kind of a daunting task! I'm a HUGE fan of Spyderco's folding knives, and I also love the Shaman (as well as the PM2 and Manix 2!). I've got the Yojimbo and Yojumbo on my (very long) wishlist. So true that Spyderco is a great brand for collectors; I never counted, but I probably have at least 50 Spyderco folding knives! It is kind of overwhelming to try to keep up with - so many different designs and steels! I'm also a big fixed blade collector, and I kind of have to disagree with your point about Spyderco's fixed blade offerings - I feel they need a great deal of improvement. I have MANY fixed blades from LionSteel, TOPS, ESEE, Morakniv, Benchmade, and even ZT, but I don't have even ONE (1) fixed blade from Spyderco! I feel they're all not designed very well at all and usually look like some kind of weird kitchen knife. I think Spyderco should really get some input from outside designers to come up with a robust fixed blade that can be used for outdoors/camping, tactical, and/or survival purposes.

What about the native chief!!! Bigger brother of the native and shaman in my opinion. Also the stretch 2 xl is hard to beat. Slowly growing my spydie collection. Love the video

My first Spyderco knife was an original Mariner with a fully serrated sheepsfoot blade and a stainless handle (not scales, it was machined from a solid piece of steel). I later was thrilled to be able to buy a left handed version, with a left-oriented pocket clip and reversed serrations for better left-handed cutting. On a sailboat you really want to be able to cut rope fast in an emergency, and this knife made me feel safer. Also, despite the sheepsfoot blade I never felt unarmed carrying it with those wicked serrations.

My two personal favorite Spyderco knives that didn't make your list - The Chaparral for starters. it beats the socks off the delica, and I bet anyone that has handled both wont disagree. I have it in lightweight and absolutely love it. It is so lightweight I wear it kayaking in my swim trunks and don't even know its there. For my "not" lightweight favorite, that is the Spydero Chef. Everyone wants to see it whenever the see me pull it out. If you can find one, you wont regret getting it. I love my Spidies (but I cant flick worth snot)

My collection was smaller around 2020, and I started seeing rave reviews about the chaparral. Although I was not interested in the look of the Spidercos, the leaf blade chaparral was more appealing so I paid for an FRN version and waited around nine months for it to arrive. ( It was the beginning of Covid. ) I was really surprised how much I liked it when it arrived. The Spyderco hole made opening extremely easy, and it fits so small in the pocket. Most of all the wire pocket clip is easy to use, and doesn’t scratch things when I leaned up against them. I am not a fan boy, but I enjoy all three of my Spydercos. I don’t go for big knives, but the Shaman looks really good!

The Smock.........been meaning to get one for so long, but then there was the Caribbean, with the sheep's foot, then the Kapara came available after being out of stock for almost forever, smock finally became available....... at the same time the last few ZT0562CF were being released, if i missed my chance now I might never get a new one......and it went on like that for the longest time, having to jump over hurdle after hurdle, until the latest batch was released and I told myself...its the Smocks turn now.

@Ratchman_5000 I did bud and it's as nice as I hoped it would be. The button compression is genius, when you see how it works you'll wonder why it's so uncommon. I'd prefer to appreciate the stock Smock before I start looking for sprints, just my opinion

I own many spydercos (carrying para 3 lightweight m390 right now). Love my endura in k390 and yojimbo 2 as well. I just hate the price hikes. I need to get a manix 2 sometime soon but can’t justify spending that much. Fortunately I’m focused on filling out a fixed blade lineup for field work and on a TOPS kick right now. I know spyderco isn’t the only one but seeing blades get close to $200 as a middle price still hurts me

I've had a Military for about 10 years as my work knife (law enforcement) and has never let me down. Hard use almost every day. Works equally well with and without gloves which is not that common. Yes it's big but sometimes you need big and if you need big you need reliability which is why I love my Military. Have a great day.

I love Spyderco and most of my knives are Spyderco. But they can be unreasonably expensive, and are a nightmare to take apart. Whenever I take apart a Spyderco there's almost always a stripped screw or two.
@theKashConnoisseur
@theKashConnoisseur 10 ай бұрын
I've had decent luck taking them apart, myself. The Value series folders (Tenacious, etc.) were simple and straightforward, as are the backlocking Native series knives. The Police and it's descendants ( Endura, etc) had one spring that was a bit of a bear to deal with when re-assembling, but nothing unmanageable. Never have I ran into a factory-stripped screw though, even on the Made in China models.

Ive got 4 spydercos. A persistence, manix 2 light weight, pm2 and a smock. I love em all. My only complaint is that the cutting edge i get compared to the room they take up in the pocket is not ideal. Theyre all great build quality though and do exactly what theyre designed to do.

Tons of great Spiderco info in this. I learned a fair bit about my knives that I didn't already know. I'm not sure if it's the video but George's hands look cartoon small. It's probably just me, I don't know. It's not that I have giant hands but a few of these knives disappear in my hand and he said they fill out your hand, the palm not just the fingers, that is what drew my attention originally. Is it just me? There are a couple more Spiderco Knives I would now consider picking up. Awesome video, George knows his Spiderco blades for real.
