So glad to see another "influencer" using Superb caning lids! So much better than the over-popular Forjar and Denali lids AND Superb lids are made in the USA!

You also try to subscribe to food independence summit on you tube. LOTS of great info there! I didnt watch all of it but I did listen to Joel Slatin, the guy who designed those lids AND WHY! Why cuz of March 2020..(when we couldnt get lids) ....like 8 months later there were CRANKING OUT LIDS! Lehman's in OH carries them.... they do NOT carry junk! Anyway watch the videos thank God for American ingenuity and get r done attitude! Blessings!

I have been wanting to learn how to can. I bought a canner to have a family member show me how to properly do everything. However they have decided to change their mind. Might just have to try it on my own and see what happens.

Thank you!!! That was the clearest, most perfectly demonstrated description of, "finger tight" I've ever seen. I'm about to start canning soon and was confused by others' videos saying, "finger tight" and then doing a crank at the end with no explanation. Your instruction that it's only a quarter turn after meeting resistance explained it perfectly.

I used to have problems with syphoning until I started tightening more. I hold a finger on the lid and turn the ring until the jar turns. Seems to work.

This is the best explanation I have seen. I found it really hard to learn how tight to make the lids without anyone at home to learn from. My lids were almost all too loose in the beginning, it turns out I don't have the strength in my hand to "finger tip tighten" and actually end up cranking with my whole hand to get it to the tightness. In the end i had to learn how tight by using the Ball Sure Tight... I basically use it all the time to get it right every time. This video is super, and really helpful!

Thanks Melissa, I bought some Chinese made lids here in Japan as ball and Kerr lids are way too expensive after shipping. Most were fine but i did have a couple buckle on me. I love your channel and watch all the time. Cheers.

I like the Superb lids. However, one issue I’ve had is the lid not seating well on the rim of the jar. It’s as it the lid could be just a tiny bit larger so the edge of the lid just barely goes over the rim of the jar. When they seal, they SEAL! But if it’s just a hair off, they don’t.

Question - sort of off topic, but, lately the ball BANDS seem really flimsy. actual lids are fine, but bands want to rust after one use and I live in the desert, so really no excuse for that nonsense. Is there another brand you could recommend? thank you in advance for your time.

I’m finding that when I put the ring on I have to ensure that the lid is completely centered in order to get a seal. I check that visually from the top.

Is there any drawback to always using 1" headspace? Thank you for explaining why it is important to have enough headspace, but can there be too much headspace?
@MelissaKNorris
@MelissaKNorris Жыл бұрын
You need to do headspace for each particular recipe/food, you can't use 1 inch across the board. It's important to be exact.

Thanks for sharing, I've been a subscriber for some time now and love your videos. I recently got into canning a couple of months ago and was using the 15-pound regulator instead of the 10- pound for my altitude. Will using the heavier regulator compromise my food? I'm thinking the extra 5-pounds just cause excessive overcooking and the food is fine. Thanks, in advance.
@MelissaKNorris
@MelissaKNorris Жыл бұрын
No you need the heavier to actually reach the correct pounds of pressure, it would be unsafe otherwise and it's cooked at the same as those of us at lower elevation but you have to use the 15 to reach that
@kenf8563
@kenf8563 Жыл бұрын
Melissa, perhaps I didn’t explain my situation correctly, as per my zip code my altitude is approxamaly1420 feet which I believe requires 11 PSI pressure and I was using the 15 pound regulator. Is this safe and perhaps I overcooked when canning. Thank you for your reply. @@MelissaKNorris
@MelissaKNorris
@MelissaKNorris Жыл бұрын
You're fine because if you only have the weighted gauge you'd use the 15 lbs, you can use the 11psi moving forward with your dial gauge but those jars are fine from a safety standpoint

Bernardine is the brand here in Canada. It used to be very good but they have become increasingly lower in quality to the point where if you picked up a jar by the band, it would slip right off. Very discouraged. How can we trust their canning rules when they don't even make safe equipment?
