You should have talked about day 1 cpt and cpt as part of curriculum, this enables spring students to do an intern in first summer break (without 9 months on campus)

@@rachelthomas7707 I also have very limited knowledge on this, that's why I wanted him to talk about it. Basically, you need to have taken 2 semesters ( 9 months ) before a co-op. But there are universities which have day1 cpt and some universities have cpt as a part of their curriculum, which enables students to do a co-op after their first semester itself.

Hi, I’m confused about the H1-B visa part. Assuming I am doing a STEM programme, don’t I have the one year OPT and 24 months extension? Why do I have just 3 months to convince my employer to file the h1b on my behalf? Can’t I work from January to December the first year and eventually convince them the second year? Kindly reply because I am confused

Yes but you will waste 1 out of 3 H1b filing attempts. If you go in January2023, You will finish your last sem by December2024. You will get a job/start a job by December2024 or January2025. H1b applications are opened in March-April i think so from January2025 to April2025 you have only 3months time to convince your employer to file for H1b if its not mentioned in your job letter. Thats why he said you have 3 months to convince your employer to file h1b for you. If you miss this window then you will still have 2 more chances, One in April2026 and another one in April2027. The notion behind that is we shouldnt waste our H1b filing attempts as the odds of your application getting picked up in the lottery are already low so maximize your odds by not wasting one attempt thats it.

I recently attended an infosession On ms in business analytics university of Utah and I specifically asked them and they said cpt can be availed after 1st sem only. Can you shed some light on that if possible. Start dates are spring, summer and fall.

Actually u can add extra subjects in your regular fall and spring semesters.. and complete ur 4 sems in 3 sems. That means by the end of May or June. in 1.5 years..

I think you should check with your universities DSO and your program director they have the authority to permit you for internships, so to answer your question it really depends.

#Yudi J After my graduation If I got placed in a company and after 1 year worked in that company and after 1 year,the employer file my H1B for next 2 years and after completing these 2 years if the employer didn't sponsor my H1B for the second time. Yes, I have done that and totally possible. Best would be if you get internship which you could convert into co-op then skip fall semester. start in spring semester for your last semester and then graduate in May.
