If you are old enough to remember when ABS was introduced the concept is similar but in reverse. Pre-ABS we were taught to pump the brakes, never let it skid. With ABS it was steady pressure and it sure took some getting used to! With regen, when you let off of the accelerator and it starts to slide, the most important thing is to NOT go back onto the accelerator to try and stop it, which seems to be the natural thing since letting off it what caused the skid. Just wait for one terrifying 1/100th of a second and it will correct itself. That made sense in my head a least :)

Doesn't sound very safe. That reminds me of the problems with the 737 max.

Can you make a video on permanent magnet VS induction motors? And is it good to have both of same types in dual-motor EVs, or can they be one of each type?

Good gouge Max and friend. Note Model 3 was shod in Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires. The car would be a sled in the stock (for 19 inch wheels) “all weather” Continentals.

What about without dual motor. Isn't the regen rear only? Wouldn't that quickly upset the car on solid ice in a corner?

2022 Tesla Model Y with Bridgestone Blizzaks - I am entirely confident, as are my friends with Teslas in winter climates, the regen is not exactly balanced on the rear wheels. Remove foot from accelerator while on slippery (not deep) snow or ice and our cars lose the back end and tend to “crab” for a moment. It is terrible. In deeper, 3-7 inches of snow it does not reveal itself. Please please Tesla make regen optional control lets say under 40 degrees. And do not tell me that my friends and I are inexperienced or imagining things. I have raced many different vehicles and live in a town with 6 months of snow on the ground. I have owned or do own, 2 P 911’s, two P cayennes, 2 Land Cruisers, MB E55, MB- GL diesel, BMW 330xi, MB Awd Wagon, and other cars - each which has performed well with Blizzaks - or Nokian, or Michelin Snows - never have I experienced this. I like the Tesla product and have owned 5. This is the first one I have spent time - 18 months - with in long winter. There is one fellow who did a nice video on this issue and he politely stated that the regen system simply triggers slippage as I have described. There is an easy solution. Until that time, driving a Tesla in icy or hard packed slippery snow with Blizzaks is not nearly as safe as driving a vehicle that merely glides when removing your foot from the accelerator - ICE cars. Natural albeit limited friction slows you a bit and slight touching of brakes. A Tesla on the other hand, in the moment regen kicks in the car loses the back end for a second and when you are doing 20 mph or so, which is a reasonable speed in most cars in those conditions, you can totally lose the car if you naturally over correct.

Just bought my Tesla Y. Previously had an Audi Q5. I just tried to leave my mountain home and slid all the way down my driveway. Brakes didn’t work steering locked up

How do you like it so far? Compared to Q5 it doesn't have torque steering.

@@vaddimka after having my Tesla a few months I can say that I will only buy Tesla going forward. It drives far better than my Q5. It’s great driving through mud, snow and even on ice. I live on a mountain that only has dirt roads. This car is so smooth driving uphill. I love that it’s basically a wash when it comes to energy use when driving down into town. Much more efficient than a gas fueled car on mountain roads for sure

@@crystalkeara8868 This is interesting. I have MYP 2022 and in my experience it's way worse in predictability in wet cornering compared to our Subaru Outback 3.6R.

How does regen work when the battery is cold? I thought batteries shouldn't be recharged while cold.

It either doesn't work, or you turn on this "use standard brakes if the battery is cold" feature

I was under the impression that you want to turn regen off, or onto the lowest setting, and when driving in snow/ice/slush. Is that not correct?

in the sense that traction control can be modulated by the motors at a much finer level at all speeds.
@allenmyers8568

EV's are heavier than most ICE vehicles. So, this should give them better traction. They an be had in both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive. Their extra weight, caused by a heavy battery, may give them the advantage, in vehicle-to-vehicle crashes. The battery sits below the body and gives the car a low center of gravity. Thus, less chance of it rolling.

More dangerous. Think about this: in this video they are talking how safe it is....why only talking and not showing video (from outside) when releasing throttle pedal during curve? I'll tell you why....because car would slip (like if using hand break in ICE car during the curve).
