I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to always go for bigger when it comes to enclosures! They loove the space. Mine is still young and she is in a 6x2x2. I plan to upgrade her in a few years to an 8x4x4 😊 Also breeding your own roaches may seem gross at first (I don't mind personally I quite like them) but it is so worth it in the long run. Great video!

Hell yeah we quickly realized when we added a bearded dragon to our family as an adult (re-home) that we should just try to grow our own superworm and dubia roach colonies. My dragon goes crazy for all insects, but especially superworms, and so anyway now we own a lot of superworms too.

I’ve had my Beardie for about 5 months after owning other reptiles before and doing as much research as I could and it’s still come with challenges. I adore her and wouldn’t be without her now but I couldn’t agree more that they shouldn’t be sold as ideal beginner reptiles!

I’ve been doing research for the past 4 years now and I still learn something new every time. But two years in I reduced a bearded dragon he had no lights at all he had stone substrate and he was just black, I went out got loads of stuff for him with in a few days all his colour came out, however I did re-home him because he wouldn’t let me handle him cause he had never been handled before. So I re-homed him to someone I knew and had lots of experience with bearded dragons. I’m still not ready to get one to keep yet though so I’m deffo still learning. So thank you for your vids

Once you have the enclosure set up they aren't too bad to look after. Lighting is important for them however so definitely need to make sure you have that right. I've been feeding mine silk worms recently as he's 10 now so slowing down a bit and can struggle to catch the crickets

I'm a beginner, and bearded dragons is definitely a reptile I'm interested in. I've had a look at this video, and others + done tons of research. Could you give me some ideas of what to lookout for when handling them. Such as stress, sickness, injury, etc.
@HaruDoneYet
@HaruDoneYet 2 жыл бұрын
It’s easy to tell if they’re stressed while handling, they’ll usually darken their beard a bit, may attempt to run, take a swipe at ya or in more serious situations take a defensive stance and do a threat display. They use body language to communicate with each other and it’s fairly easy to learn what they are trying to say. Injury and illness are hard to watch for because they are prey animals and will hide it as best they can. So a good way to keep on top is to check their poop because it tells you a lot about their condition, and watch for any behavior changes. A yearly vet visit is also recommended. Weighing them consistently can also help because losing a lot of grams in a short amount of time means something is up. Also learning to do a very basic physical can help though for most keepers you don’t need to do that, it’s usually for rescues or chronically ill dragons. Injuries are fairly easy to spot if you handle daily or nearly daily. Also making sure to be supervising floor time can help prevent a lot of it and making sure there’s nothing harmful in the enclosure. So like no sharp sticks or stuff that can easily fall over or on-top of them.

I am 29 years old and a very responsible pet owner and go above and beyond minimum needs for all my pets because seeing them happy makes me happier than anything. I cannot imagine a child or even an ill-prepared adult taking care of a bearded dragon. I love mine, but she is high maintenance for sure. I’ve had to force medicine down her throat and even give her eye drops and it’s a war to do so!! 🤣

That was kind of a deal breaker...Thanks so much for this honest video, I totally agree after watching this, bd's need a complex regime of balanced diet, lighting and expensive vets ..So I guess they're only "easy" based on their demure, gentle behavior and versatility.

My boyfriends brother had a bearded dragon but he sadly passed away in November 2020. He was old and sick. He was a rescue. The people before the before my boyfriends brother kept him in a hamster cage yes I’m not joking a hamster cage. Awful I know. But my boyfriends brother did his research and snurdles the bearded dragon lived to be about 15 years old. His nickname was mr wink because he would trick you to think he was sleeping with one eye open. Lol. And ps I think metabolic bone disease is a part of why snurdles passed away other than his age. He has a uromastix lizard now. Named spiker.he’s cool lookin

Working at a pet store i mainly tell people to do their own research because i only know so much, which is better than some others (i have some pet lizards) and i filly agree about the care guides, the place i work at doesnt have them but even if we did i would definately not recomend them. That being said a lot of people who work in pet stores want the best for the customers and they care about the pets, we arent always right but we (at least my coworkers and i) do care about the pets. Such a helpful video to watch thank you so much. I think it’s a bit harder here in Australia to avoid buying from pet shops as we have to have a reptile license to own reptiles or should I say own "a" reptile cos beginners are only permitted to own one reptile. But I’d like to say that our local pet shop which is one of the only places on the coast that actually stock reptiles do look after their stock. Also on a random note, I live in the only state in Australia where Rabbits are illegal to own. You can’t even own a hamster or chinchilla in Australia either 😫 I’m living in the wrong country 🤦🏻‍♀️

Like Tyler said height might be an issue so using rocks and branches is a good tip. You said you have tried multiple bulbs does that mean different wattages, Spotlights or floodlights etc? It can be hard to find the issue since it will largely depend on placing and the size of the enclosure! I wish you luck.

I had this problem with my Chinese water dragons enclosure. What finally did it for me was to do a heat emitter bulb and a basking spot bulb in the same spot. Check temp regularly to make sure you don't get it to hot. Mine is still a baby and in a 3 foot tall enclosure, 100 watt heat emitter and 150 watt basking bulb works perfect for me. Jist check your temps regularly.
