2 days ago I went to Petco to get some crickets for our tarantulas. Someone abandoned this beardie in front of the store in a rabbit cage with some fairly crappy accessories. The people in petco couldn't "sell" it because of this and were asking everyone if they wanted it. Two things about me; I'm a retired animal control officer who specialized in reptiles, and I currently work for the Humane society. I went ahead and took it. We have a vet appt already and your videos have set us well on our way to properly caring for this lil lady (they thought it was female, but the vet will settle that for us). So thank you for your videos.

If you go to C.B.C.'s facility, they post the actual review from the inspector that inspects them near their front door. I saw on their state review for their dealers license an area that said, "Improvements needed". The inspector wrote beside it, None. So a state wildlife inspector went in their facility and said that they see no area in which this business could do better than what they are already doing. That is impressive if you ask me. I have never been there when the building even remotely smelled like a pet shop. It is always clean, smells good, and they are more than happy to talk reptiles with you and offer advice and hundreds of funny stories from their years of doing this.

I can't help but wonder if there's a link between people buying animals from the big stores and not having done any other research that they end up having more problems than from a breeder, or if it's the animals themselves. Seems like a lot of issues could be from pure lack of care knowledge. Cause petsmart for sure tells you absolutely nothing about how to care for them.

Such great advice!! I just got a baby from PetSmart last week (I know - PetSmart yikes!) because he just looked so sad and was desperately trying to escape the micro tank they had him and two other dragons in. I just had to rescue him! Of course they told me I'd need a water bowl and crickets so I got some and then once I set up his enclosure I was desperately trying to figure out why the humidity was so high and how to fix it. Of course it was the water bowl!! After watching some of your videos I removed it and now his tank is at the perfect humidity level. I also started to give him a mealworm or two as dessert for his meals and feed him lettuce in between crickets so he gets some variation and water content. I was shocked about how many crickets it says online to feed the babies, up to 50-80 a day, that's awful!! This will just cause the baby to grow unnaturally fast (Just think about in the wild, would they ever be able to find and eat that many crickets a day?) and can cause a load of health issues. Thanks so much for educating us with your experiences and for giving such amazing advice!!!! :)

I had a beautiful rescue years ago who passed away. Recently I lost my dog of 12 years. I wanted a pet companion I could interact with who was a bit more independent during the day haha. I broke the cardinal rule and got my new family member from petsmart because I couldn't convince my husband a breeder was better. After watching this I am a bit parinoid about this little guy but he is active, eating and pooling well so far. I am praying we have better luck than most.

Greetings from Denmark. Being a firsttimer bearded dragon owner (got him one week ago), i searched the net about good advice and informations. i joined several FB groups, but lets be honest, these groups are not good for beginners. So many diffrent opinions and angles on whats the best to do. Your videos are very informative and very helpfull. I was thinking a lot about the substrate subject. i use a mix of sand (100% sterile and free for bacteria )and soil. Should i change this setup? our pet stores here in Denmark do not have that many options when it comes to choosing diffrent stuff. Another thing is the humidity. i need to get a humidty meter, but as far as i know, the humidity in our apartment is between 25-45%., i do have a waterbowl in the cage. Otto (my dragons name) eat vegetables, and i spray it with water. So maybe i should remove the waterbowl? i just ordered a fresh set of calcium and vitamin D3, because i found out, that the petstore sold me some complete wrong stuff who was actually very bad for my dragon. Im still learning and trying my very best to master the "science" of having a dragon :) Thank you so far, you gusy are great!

Can you please do a video of a tank setup? We have a 2 yr old citrus hybrid leatherback. We are interested in changing his environment but really are unsure of what to upgrade. We'd also like to see a light wattage tutorial. We don't want him too hot or the tank to have so much wattage that it is all the same temp. We have the 2 bulb setup connected so the 2 lights are close together. Should we change that so they can be farther apart or moved around? How close to the basking light and top of the tank should we allow him to get?

Just got a beardie from a repticon show here in Tampa Florida a company me days ago. I believe I may have gotten 1 that needs some rehabilitation. Which I’m perfectly fine with. I had the opportunity to purchase from a different vendor that seemed to have much healthier looking dragons. My bro Inlaw pointed this 1 out because he was disappointed in how he was being kept in a small clear container with feces all over him. His front left leg doesn’t appear to work exactly how it should. The vendor wanted 75 bucks for it, I gave him 40 bucks. He told me he was around 1 year old. Which I highly doubt. If it is 1 yr old it’s been very neglected. Well, I felt bad and I brought him home. I had to bath it using a soft toothbrush and I had to use a little Dawn to get the cakes up feces off of his underside. He was not happy. Bearded me the entire time tail, back, and beard was jet black. I managed to get him all cleaned up and dried off. Placed him in his new enclosure. This was Saturday evening. I offered him some collards yesterday and he ate a couple bites, I then gave him a couple super worms and he eventually ate them. Today I came home from work and noticed he only ate a couple bites of his greens again, so of course I gave him a few super worms and he ate them right out of my hand. He seems like he will be ok. But, he is very lazy and wants to lay flat and sleep most of the time so far. The first night he slept with his upper half of his body upright leaned against the glass of his enclosure which was cute but worries me until I seen many pictures online and learned it’s not abnormal. I’m blabbing on and I apologize but you and your daughter have quickly become my favorite Chanel I’ve came across so far. I have a 75w basking light and a 10.0 UVB light. Looking to invest in a new enclosure because then1 I am using is about 48”L x 13”W x 24” tall. Or was a fresh water fish aquarium I already had. His basking area is about 100-101°F directly on top of his rock/hide, directly under his hide it’s sitting at 104 currently I guess because I also have a small heating pad under his cage. The middle of the enclosure is about 80° and the cool end is sitting at 73° right now. Do I need more light sources or to raise the overall temperature a bit? I was told 100-105 is ideal for basking area, and that around 90 overall temperature is best. I took the water bowl out after watching your video. Which he wasn’t using mush of any at all anyways. I’ve been using a dropper to give him water every so often throughout the day. The pour guy has something wrong with his front leg or maybe all legs he is mobile and can walk around but they have almost a limp mess to them if that makes any sense. Please pardon me for carrying on.

I currently work at a petco, luckily a high majority of the employees who work with the animals all have reptiles themselves, or other animals, and we all make sure that everything someone buys is actually good for the reptiles, we even encourage them to go to our mom and pop shops to get some items as well if we don’t have any that is actually good for the reptile and don’t just try to shove off products like the dead insects or dogfood looking goop. I have two leopard geckos, one was a rescue, and they are absolutely thriving right now, especially the rescue, who was sadly raised in a 10 gal for the first 3 years of his life and didn’t even know how to hunt when I first got him. Now he’s in a 40 gal, can actually hunt pretty decently, and doesn’t run away when my hand is near. He still hates being picked up, but progress is progress! As for my newest addition, I just got a juvenile bearded dragon not even a day ago, and he’s super lethargic right now, and I’m wondering if it’s just because he’s in a new area? I also live up far north so transporting was a slight issue with having to quickly bring it outside in the cold (which I moved as quickly as I could so he wasn’t out for long) but I wonder if that slightly shocked his system a bit, I do now have him in a tank (20 gal but I’m purchasing a 40 my next pay check) and I have a heating pad, and ceramic bulb on for the night to hopefully help. I don’t have the official temp of the tank right now, as tthe thermometer I got didn’t have a battery like it was supposed to. I also turned the heat up higher in my room to 72 in hopes to help keep the little guy warm…any more tips on how to keep warmth in the tank, especially during the winter?

I am on of the ones who impulsed bought a dragon from petco but i owned leapard geckos for a while before getting a dragon so i came into owning knowing a little about reptiles and their needs. In my area even with water bowls in their cages the humidty doesn't really go above 30%. Benifit of living in the Rockies I guess lol. After getting the dragon i did my homework by scouring google links and loads of reading. ATM have a 60" Long ,30" deep, 24" high cage build for it (IDK its gender yet as its entering Juvinile stage). Your Videos are amazing and helpful in helping my education for proper care for a dragon and ive already found a few a local reptile shops i buy my reptiles feeders from as i have found they are cheaper to buy insects from than the big box stores. The only question i have for some experts like you is should meal worms be considered a staple part of a dragons diet? The local reptile store recomends feeding meal worms sparingly as they say it can cause health issues since meal worms have a high fat content. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to absorbing more of your knowledge from your other videos :)

I don’t know if you will see this but, I just bought my 14 year old a bearded dragon about a month ago (mid June 2024) from a pet store. I bought the 10 gallon tank with everything that he “needs” such as the heat lamp and basking rock and whatnot. It only came with one heat lamp and he told me I need to buy the red light for them, sorry forgot the name of it and also that the 10 gallon tank would be okay but not for very long and so I just went ahead and found a big 72 gallon on fb marketplace. I have it set up where I have the red heat lamp on one side of the tank and the regular heat lamp/basking lamp on the opposite side. Is that a good way to have it set up or should I have them on the same side where one side has both lights and is hotter and no light in the opposite side? He seems to be doing fine but we’ve only had him about a month and just want to make sure i have everything set up correctly for him. We live in Virginia and I do keep a water dish (I use a rectangular glass Pyrex dish) in there but watching one of your other videos it seems like I maybe should take it out. It’s not as humid here in Virginia but i definitely need to get one of their humidity monitors to check the levels and go from there. If you happen to read this comment please give me any advice on the setup I have and what is best for it! I may shoot you an email with a picture of the setup. Oh, also, I use larger wood chips on half of the bottom and then the other half I have a linoleum type of substrate that came with the small 10 gallon tank I had bought. The wood chips came from a big box store and said specifically for bearded dragons and other types similar to them so I assume that is okay to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Love the videos, y’all are both awesome!

I want get bearded dragon but I don't know what 2 bugs. I should have like regular because crickets don't last a long if you get in from a pet store, but they are good for them but there are also some type of worms that are easier to watch you in one of your videos saying, it's just have worms and put them in the fridge, and that last, 6 months, other than crickets, so do I give them just worms, or do I sometimes get crickets to feed them? I just want this animal before I get it, I know it's gonna be healthy and happy, and it's going to get all the nutrients that it needs. So if you can just help me, that would be great. Thank you.

Ive learned so much from you guys on taking care of bearded dragons i just wanted to say thank you for the information, you guys inspired me to go out and get a dragon. I just had a few questions. So i live in michigan and i struggle to keep my room at 75 degrees during our winters would a heating pad for the enclosure help keep the heat up? During the winter my room drops to around 65-67 degrees. And i just want to be sure that my lil guy will be okay, my second question is about tank size ive seen a lot of people recommend 4'x2'x2' enclosures i just wanted to know if my 4'x2'x1.5' enclosure would be fine for the time being i plan on getting him into a 120 gallon enclosure by the end of the year i just need to make space for it. My third and final question is how do i know im feeding my beardie the proper size insect?
